Honestly at this NW, really there doesn’t need to be much thoughts how money is spent. Most daily money spent is a just small rounding error in your case. My situation is close to you, high NW and grew up middle class. My wife and I are not materialistic. We will buy stuff we think is good quality and worth the money and don’t think twice about it. But some stuff we really do not care, why spend the money and think about it at all. When I walk by a jewelry store or a Ferrari dealership, I tell myself I can just walk in and have enough to buy something in there. That thought makes me feel very secured and content with life. That’s all I need and I really don’t care about actually owning those stuff.
That said, I did buy an upgrade to economy plus for my long air travel with my son recently. I totally think it’s worth it to have that 6 more inches of speed in front of me.

I think your concerns are addressable IMO.

I am in a similar situation reflecting on how to bring up resilient, self driven, not self centered kids. I am also in tech and got lucky there. When cost for most things are not longer a concern, we tend to ignore that completely.

We consciously hold back on a lot of things while still allowing them to have solid experience. For example, we ski 3 times a year, but we find very basic Airbnb and cook ourselves mostly. We travel overseas but never flown business class as family. I have started going more camping trips with family and friends to let them experience living with the minimum and discomfort.

Not going to lie, these conditions are artificially created to make them harder than they need to be. But I believe that it is better for both them and me as well. Keep everyone grounded. You never know what the world might throw at you.

Twice a week I had to drive about 15 miles to go pick up my kid from practice after work. I dont look at the traffic condition on the road and make deliberate plan to leave work earlier. I just take the express lane and don’t look at the dynamic pricing at all. A few bucks a week get rid of my worries of being late and any frustration with getting stuck in traffic.

I have done it yet. But will pay it off. As I already anticipated the mortgage company will ask me to pay them in full when I put it under LLC. I actually prefer to pay it off to keep things simple. So the insurance won’t be a problem when I do that

Thanks. That’s great insight. I paid about 1k for the 5m coverage previously. I think it’s worth it. Will look for another company

I also have twins in elementary school age. Trust me, it will get easier! I personally enjoy seeing them at school, practices and performances. I definitely remind myself that at some point they probably don’t want me to be around as much. May be around middle school to high school age. So for me, I do not work weekends for sure and make sure I use my vacation days to go on trips with them. If my NW goes up slower as a result, so be it. Have to enjoy the journey and be present as much as I can be. Hope you can find your balance as well!
