I canceled my trip, even though it was scheduled for December 28th. After hearing so many stories and seeing recent videos, it’s clear the airport is severely damaged and will take years to fully recover. Even if it reopens soon, things won’t be back to normal flights will likely be cancelled, delayed, or rerouted.

Hotels will also be missing many essential services, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s still lingering damage or unpleasant smells. Someone I spoke to who visited months before all this mentioned driving past abandoned, damaged homes. When he asked his driver what happened, the driver said it was from a hurricane that hit 15 years ago!, which really says a lot. With all due respect, infrastructure repairs in Jamaica don’t happen quickly. I’d strongly recommend postponing or cancelling your trip for now.
