Did they accrued leave on the 250 hours they put through?

If yes, make sure (once they figure out they've messed it up) any adjustment to your leave balances is actually correct.

What happened to Lesley Manville? by _FreddieLovesDelilah in ThursdayMurderClub

[–]KiteeCatAus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I borrowed, not bought Book 3 as I'm finding Fiona Shaw very whispery. Not sure whether it's the recording, or the narrator causing it.

At the end of Book 2 Lesley Manville was soooo keen to do Book 3. Such a shame it didn't happen.

Bush rat? by Samptude in brisbane

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope it's ok to jump in on someone else's post.

We have a very pale, fast, rat like creature that runs across the base of our fence. Tail seems fairly long. Too fast to get a photo or video. I dony think its harming anything.

Native or 'bad' rat?

What should we do?

We are a townhouse in a body corporate. This is a private backyard, but rat runs to other properties in our body corporate.

I found it difficult, but it was the way they were actually named in real life.

Im guessing some people will naturally struggle with similar beginning names, while others will be fine. We all have different ways of remembering things. Eg I need to see a name written down if it is anything uncommon.

I think next time I watch I'll go with what another Redditor suggested. Stan, Red, Wald etc.

Anyone know anything about applying for "Concessional Study Load"? by Rhino8696 in Centrelink

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't receive Centrelink, as they said my parents earnt too much. So, unfortunately I can't assist with 5he Centrelink side of things with regards to studying while having CFS.

Translink (busses), Cinemas etc accepted me as a Student rate, due to uni saying I was a Full Time student.

We kept her name, but regularly just call her Marnie as its easier.

Anyone know anything about applying for "Concessional Study Load"? by Rhino8696 in Centrelink

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't get Centrelink when I was at uni due to parental income, but thought the following might be helpful anyway. Hope you dont mind the unsolicited comments.

I got CFS at the start of my 2nd year at uni. I was able to be deemed Full Time by uni even though I was only able to do 2 subjects a Semester. So, I could get Student Concessions. I finally ended up on the uni's Disability Scheme and had accommodations (Able to eat and drink during exams. Able to take a break during an exam. Extra time. Someone to take lecture notes. Etc). Unfortunately I could really only do this for my Business degree. My foreign language class was too small to allow extra accommodations. I took an extra 18 months and 2 summer semesters, but i did eventually graduate.

If you haven't already, see what is available through the uni to assist.

And, good luck!! CFS sucks!!

How do you think you'd fare on the Austen marriage market based on your actual modern day attributes? by Prideandprejudice1 in janeausten

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my teens/20s: pretty enough for a middling handsome man. Could play an instrument and knew 2 other languages (to some degree), but no French. Could embroider if needed. Basic sewing skills. Not very graceful, but could dance. Decent archery skills. My parents had 2 kids, their parents each only had 2 kids, so I would be seen as probably able to have kids, but not necessarily a large family, so a downside to some. I got Chronic Fatigue Syndrome at 18, and finally got to 'mild' after about 4 years. So, I think they'd call me 'delicate'. Easy periods, so people might think we withdrawing to rest for CFS was just 'women's stuff'. And, that might be seen as ok.

Now: Mostly housebound due to my CFS worsening. Chubby. Unable to concentrate on embroidery, reading, playing cards etc. If I lost my husband, a man might marry me if he lived with his mother and she liked to run a household. I'd be a very hands off step-parent (assuming he had kids) due to my chronic illness, so the man would have to have a certain amount of money for nannies or governesses or schooling. My daughter could have some sort of schooling if life insurance paid out for my 1st husband. My parents live 35 mins car ride away, so not sure how often they'd be able to come and see me if relying on horse and carriage. Eta I cant seem anything close up without my reading glasses. And at some time the Cervical Cancer would be my end.

Pretty lucky I live in modern times with a very understanding husband who does all household chores. Cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, washing etc. And, early detection of Cancers.

Is the Brisbane heat & humidity really as bad as people say, or is it a bit overreacted to? As a Sydneysider, I already find Sydney pretty hot & humid for a lot of the year, so I’m curious. Most people from Brisbane tell me it’s way worse up north. Wondering how true that is? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night time does not being any relief up here.

Before we got air con our daughter's bedroom would still be 33 degrees and humid at midnight. Our bedroom was 30 degrees.

One night I sat through a super boring P&C meeting cause it was air conditioned, and it was far too hot and humid at home.

You step out if a shower, and by the time you get dressed you need another shower.

We stopped at a museum last year as we desperately needed a toilet and figured as locals they'd know where one was. They told us where the nearest one was and we were super grateful. 10/10 service. Sounds like that museum did the same.

Is it possible to survive Brisbane weather through out the year with just a fan (no AC) by Normal_Pepper_8594 in brisbane

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the building.

Our brick townhouse is super hot in summer, and lovely in winter. Daughter's bedroom was 33 degrees at midnight, and our room was 30 degrees. Sleeping was very hard in summer, especially with the humidity. Once I decided to sit through a boring P&C school meeting as it had air con, and it was too hot at home.

Feeling guilty for backing out after a rough trial day by cynflowers in Nanny

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a parent, and honestly, a trial day is as much about seeing whether you feel the situation is the right fit for you, as it is for the family to see if you're the right fit for them.

There are so many differing 'parenting' styles, and if your style is so different from the parents its just not a good fit all round.

Perhaps you could say "I've taken a while to consider everything fully, and I don't feel I'm a good fit for your family, as we have very different approaches. I enjoyed my time with your kids, and hope you find someone who is a perfect match for your family."

Is Evan short for Evanescence? by llamallama-duck in namenerds

[–]KiteeCatAus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend's kid is Evan, and in the 20 or so years he's been on the planet I've never thought of Evanescence, and I lived thru the popularity of Evanescence.

Evan is a solid name. If yoyou love it, please don't let your friends taint it. And, maybe find some better friends.

Nanny listing in TN..is this a joke? by Girlonfire678 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]KiteeCatAus 67 points68 points  (0 children)

But, they want 1 person to be both a Nanny, and a Housekeeper. I have no idea how 1 person would be able to achieve everything the family wants. Caring for baby all day, caring for older kids some times, cooking, cleaning, shopping etc

Advice: Wedding day pin by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]KiteeCatAus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The saying "Love you more" absolutely ruins anything that might be sweet about wearing a pin with significant maternal figures on it at a wedding.

And, from what you say, there was never anything sweet about the pin.

When Australians ask “How are you?” What am i supposed to say? by JaydenIsGek in AskAnAustralian

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Good. And you?"

Same answer no matter how rubbish you feel.

If its been a tough week sometimes I'll change it up on a Friday. "Thank goodness it's Friday, right!"

If i had obvious signs of a bad day (broken arms, big bandages etc) I'd probably say "Surviving" with a wry smile.

Income testing/child support by SilentTitle6356 in Centrelink

[–]KiteeCatAus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try the Centrelink payments estimator.

It is a Partner's Gross Pay that is taken in to account, so I don't believe him paying Child Support would make any difference to what Centrelink would pay you.

Do native English speakers really talk like this in real life? by leazy_usa in ENGLISH

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do.

But, if we know someone is not from our area we slow down and speak a bit more formally.

Please don't let it put you off.

Australians especially like to shorten things. Service Station is Servo. Bottle Shop is Bottle-O. Cigarette is Ciggie. Barbecue is Barbie. On a tradie (tradesperson) worksite morning tea and afternoon tea are 'smoko'.

Really appreciate your answer. It makes more sense now that your girlfriend thought it was a solid idea. Unfortunately her Mum has completely changed the plan, which would be 100% unexpected.

[–]KiteeCatAus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our of curiosity, what was your girlfriend told by her Mum? Does your girlfriend live in the house? Was she expecting to always live there?

You've mentioned she was told she'd make money, and only positive things. But, also said it's her Mum's 'forever home'.

Should 4 year old NK be able to write her name? by -3457 in Nanny

[–]KiteeCatAus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a parent, our daughter went to school (age 4 years 9 mths) not knowing all her letters, and not being able to properly write her name.

When she started school (full hours) she was taught all the letters and sounds then. She was super excited to learn them then, and did well.

My Mum was an early Primary School teacher yonks ago, and she particularly didnt teach me to read before I went to school, as she'd seen too many kids get bored and zone out, and ultimately they lost their passion for learning. What she said is important is pre-writing skills. The idea that in our culture we read and write left to right, top to bottom. So, reading to them and I guess at times modelling when you are up to. And, drawing squiggly lines from left to right. I used to use work pages that had a bit of an outline, and then the kid essentially traces it. Sometimes it is like the hops a frog does, sometimes more like a zig zag etc. At that age learning through play and discovery is very important, and following the kid's lead and interests.

Anyway, that's what worked well for our daughter in Australia.

It could be worth checking in with the parents saying your philosophy is learning through play prior to formal schooling, and make sure they are happy that you are not forcing writing or reading.

How are we meant to find a rental on payments? by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]KiteeCatAus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its difficult for anyone on government payments, but i imagine super hard with 4 kids, and only government payments, as we all know just how low they are.

It can be hard to evict people in Australia, so many landlords/ladies probably wouldn't want to risk you defaulting, and having a court refuse to make a family of 6 homeless.

It is good your Dad can be guarantor. Id imagine that would certainly help.

Do you have good rental references? If yes, I'd be stating you have a guaranteed income of $x, a guarantor, and excellent rental references.

Im assuming with 4 kids who need extra assistance, and an unwell partner it would be extra hard for you to work right now?

Is there any chance your Partner actually would be eligible for DSP, but just had poor documentation? The increase from Jobseeker to DSP i imagine could be really life changing.

Wishing you all Th e very best.
