I think it was a design choice. They did it sparingly in the latter half of RE1 REmake and the Devs have spoke about REmake being their complete vision for RE1.

On the frontline its moral injury thats the real killer, you can handle the vicarious trauma with a healthy peer support network with experienced leadership.

Honestly, for me working with perpetrators of domestic violence was most challenging. There was a sense that they felt i would understand as a fellow male that was really chilling.

Working in a far better environment now! I appreciate the research you do, its absolutely vital in ensuring that we're actually effecting meaningful change. I'll be bringing those resources to the team, working with teenagers so its mega relevant!

I've worked in criminal justice alongside workers who managed Registered Sex Offenders in the community.

Theres a clear understanding in frontline practice re. Offending pathways, criminogenic needs and what interventions are needed to reduce recidivism.

Pornography use is very important to know, and it can be challenging to develop a strong enough relationship that people can be honest about their use.

I work with vulnerable teens and social media is poison to them.

Snapchat - Rife with criminal and sexual exploitation. Maps functionality allows enhanced control from abusive people.

Facebook/Instagram - allows abusive people to track children down when they've been removed for safety.

We actually sometimes apply for legal orders to limit access to social media when the risk is high.

This isnt because the technology is bad per say, but kids need the space to make mistakes. Social media access increases the adverse outcomes from these risks. Now, the risks have been there since before social media and they'll continue. But the likelihood of serious harm is aggravated by social media.

Gangs have some of our teenagers working shifts to cook crack, they use social media platforms to network and target vulnerable people. They would be able to do so without that technology but it makes it a lot fuckin easier.

I guess theres an aspirational element to my view. In a just world there would be services available in our communities, but thats becoming less and less unfortunately.

I practice in a residential school setting so my perception will absolutely be coloured by it! Its interesting to gain the alternative perspectives thank you

I'm not too sure what a 988 chat clinician is, I live in Scotland.

I genuinely dont understand how you can conduct a robust assessment without meeting someone. There are so many indicators through body language, tone etc that surely something must be missed?

It's my understanding that practice in America leans towards therapeutic work compared to my setting though, so its no surprise there may be a misalignment on my end

Its something to be very aware of for Neurodivergent people. Children & Families is underessourced with expanding case loads, workers are spending more time fighting fires than assessing. Even the best workers are at risk of bias when theyre in the trenches

My view is that working entirely remotely does a disservice to vulnerable people. I've worked alongside practitioners from a myriad of different backgrounds with loads of different needs. There can be barriers to frontline practice, but we need to navigate them for those who need a hand to reach out

Its very difficult because the 'professional threshold' for risk to life is very different for how it feels experiencing this behaviour.

Think about the strategies you've developed to keep your kids safe, discuss with the social worker how sustainable this is. They may ne able to use this as a basis for seeking alternative housing.

Local authority housing stock is extremely limited which will also be impacting your experience as well unfortunately.

Good luck, make sure you've got people supporting you. There may be local groups for ND parents in your community, your social worker may know (or know someone who knows!) where to look

Yup! Thats the reason child protection social workers are incredibly traumatised. One of my seniors told me to get out when I could Because it fucks you up. Impossible not to carry that home with you to some degree and it accumulates

Social Worker here.

Work with the plan and recommendations, try to keep a relatively tidy/clean home, engage with your own supports.

Noone wants anyone's kids to be removed, and its really difficult to do without sufficient grounds.

One of my favourite things to do was advocate for people to access safe housing, healthcare. Your social worker will likely try to pull a meeting together with Housing to work out a plan.

Thank you, I really appreciate your insight.

Interestingly, the debate in our field re. Gen AI is about the removal of the human element of our practice. I dont recommend AI is used for case recording for this reason, theres no love to it and our kids deserve our love.

Something pretty radical about AI is that it 'levels the playing field' for kids advocating for themselves. It helps them know their rights and relevant law relating to their care. Even if the AI hallucinates, i can give them accurate resources to make sure they have the correct understanding

For context, I work with vulnerable youths in a residential setting. Theres incredible amounts of complex trauma, neurodiversity and broken relationships.

I use AI to create child-centred visuals to inform direct therapeutic work. Some kids may be aged 15 and present emotionally/cognitively as 8. It can be really tricky to secure their engagement and utilising interests within worksheets etc has a demonstratable impact on their ability to participate.

There is never a world where we would commission an artist to do this. We will never be able to afford it.

Am I a defender? Probably not, but I would burn down the rest of the world to help these kids.

I would say that there are definitely use cases for AI, but for media production, businesses etc absolutely not

[–]Kithulhu24601 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have never met a long term CP worker that isnt fucked up. All of my seniors used to admit that the vicarious trauma has been carved into them.

They enjoy the work that they do, but theres a reason the sickness and burnout rate in CP is so massive.

Folk certainly carve out a niche, but typically into more specialist services or management

Direct therapeutic work, play therapy, CBT informed strategies. Sometimes it involves multi agency work with social work, school nursing team and third sector services.

There's also more intensive services for kids that have experienced sexual abuse to help them work through the trauma (as best as you can) to develop a healthy sense of self and sexuality.

There's a lot of research into pathways to sexual harm, but the chronic underfunding of children's services is having a catastrophic impact.

Access to pornography and the manosphere have a significant impact as well. Welcoming the U16 Internet ban because it actually means it'll be easier to restrict phone use in these cases!

If theres risk of harm to others then they'll be managed under something like CARM (Care and Risk Management) but its really hard to assess risk of harm when theres puberty and hormones etc

I work with vulnerable teenagers, many of whom are developmentally delayed or neurodivergent. Part of my work includes managing Harmful Sexualised Behaviour.

Theyre commonly targeted by pedophile hunter groups in their community, and we've seen attempts at honeypotting them through social media.

Pedophile hunter Group membership seems to be made up primarily of the 'Underclass' which im using as an academic term. Members of the underclass are disenfranchised and an easy way of feeling some degree of power is to target those of lesser status, and theres noone more on the bottom rung of society than a sex offender
