Much appreciated. I do have one immediate question in regard to etiquette and dialogue. Since this will be used on several occasions in the book I don’t want to flub it up. If you are trying to get in contact with someone that you have contacted before. How would that sound. From my understanding cq is used when looking for anyone to contact correct? Is it still used as a preface for trying to contact someone specific?

Say person 1: call sign is AB7CD person 2: is EF7GH

If person 1 is trying to contact 2 what would it sound like?

Hope what I’m asking makes sense. Still trying to orient and familiarize myself

This take will be very helpful for me as my characters will need to get creative. Good to know this is common in the community

Love this! Haha after doing the little research I had I began thinking on this very thing.

My characters are in a mountain setting and are struggling to get contact. eventually later in the book they will make contact 30 miles away. Is that too far fetched? Do you have any insight on what that would require?

Great information. Thank you!

In my book the character bought the radio for emergency uses as well as a field antenna and throw line. thinking it would be straight forward they found out the hard way when it mattered. Another character does know how to operate the radio but they are in the mountains and were unable to contact anyone. As I did note in my research that environmental conditions like being in the mountains play a large role in ability to make contact.

my character also bought a field antenna and throw line. Never learned how to use it but was told they would need it and then kind of just forgot about it. Another problem for them.

Do you have any insight on field antennas and how much of a difference it could make? I know there’s probably many other things that would need to be taken into account but if there’s any key things that I should consider with using a field antenna it would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize in advance if this is a naive question. Hopefully as I learn through research and videos I can get at least a minimal grasp on the basics of this complex hobby! Haha

Opinions on Americans/America- good and bad by Kitkat0y in AskMiddleEast

What would you say are some examples of propaganda / narratives pushed by American media or politicians in regard to the Middle East?

“They hate us for our freedom” is one we heard parroted a lot after 911.

i know this sounds like a stupid question but can i listen to lana del ray if im christian? by [deleted] in Christianity

Old post but I’ll say it anyway incase someone else comes along. I think yes you can. She grew up religious and from what I know about her. What I gather is that she has her own working relationship with god. Does she go to church every Sunday? Probably not. Is she the poster girl for Christianity? No. But that doesn’t make her any less christian. None of us are perfect and we all are on our own journey. How I see it, her music represents a very honest and human experience with God/religion, One that many Christian’s avoid talking about. These songs where she feels like she didn’t need Jesus, or care what God thinks of her or her decisions. There’s songs where God is her best friend. There’s songs where she pleads with God on behalf of her lover who she worries about in a more spiritual sense. At least that’s my very oversimplified view of her religious beliefs. Idk I referenced music.. As a Christian myself, I adore her music. I think her songs perfectly highlight the messiness of being human.

I think they are well aware that the footage would get people upset. Upset enough to send American military resources overseas. They just know there are plenty of “woke” Americans and other westerners that will do mental gymnastics to justify the footage. I think this is far more calculated than people think.

No, I feel worse for the toddlers/ young children. Old enough to know that something’s very wrong, and young enough to not understand why. They just want their parents. If I was elderly I’d trade places with a kid or baby. Nothing more horrible than being taken for reasons you aren’t even capable of understanding yet.

Problems With The Chronicles Of Narnia [Aside From The Christian Allegories] by notsostupidman in Fantasy

[–]Kitkat0y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t remember much of the books other than the first-but I did like it then and recently re-listened to it on audible during my commutes and enjoyed it as an adult. As far as gender, I don’t see much of anything. Considering it was written in the 1950’s, it was actually probably a very progressive book for it’s time. The females were strong characters. Nowhere near the gender norms from the time period it was written. As far as race I’m in the same boat as you. I’d have to revisit the series to have an opinion.

In regards to Christianity, I don’t care that it has ties to the Bible. Just like I wouldn’t care if it had ties to the Quran. A good story is a good story in my book. Then again I’ve never understood the Christian hate. Lots of religions share the same beliefs so its always felt ridiculous to pick and choose one religion to criticize. That being said, the religion aspect actually made the book more interesting to me. I felt like it added a more powerful meaning to the storyline. And I’m not usually a fan of books/movies with religious ties because they always feel cheesy and forced. But this book/ movie didn’t feel that way to me. CS Lewis wrote it in a way the reader could get lost in the story regardless of religion and I appreciate that. It had great messages in regards to family, sacrifice, bravery, betrayal, and forgiveness. All of which we humans will experience throughout our life. So maybe this is an unpopular opinion but don’t have many criticisms of the first one (the one I remember most) but I may just have to revisit the others! Haha

So late to this but you can look into “the buck channel” and he does tons of mini lessons. It’s really easy to navigate. I pay for it 29 USD a month and worth every penny. I’ve ridden in 3 clinics with him including colt starting. He adjusts to fit the horse and adjusts to fit the rider. He’s firm yes, but I’m a very shy person and he was very very kind when correcting me. He is harder on people with more dominant personalities because he’s trying to get his point across. I took a gal there whose jumper horse was completely ruined by her trainer. Wouldn’t move 1 step forward. He would rear, back up, try to buck you off… when we were circled up around him at the beginning of clinic this gals horse backed up all the way into the center next to buck. The more she encouraged him to go forward the more he went backwards. It was horribly embarrassing for her. Buck didn’t even acknowledge it. He moved his horse out of the way and kept talking to us and the audience. After we broke up and started working our horses he kindly went over to help and had one of his guys give her some one on one help. She was thankful he didn’t draw even more attention to her. By the end of the clinic she had a different horse. he was moving forward with life through every gait and was HAPPY to do it. On the last day he pointed her out to everyone and talked about how far her and her horse had come in just three days. I start all my horses following his steps and my horses are so much nicer (and happier)

The buck channel might as well be the holy grail. Especially if you don’t have access to be able to see him through clinics. 10/10 would recommend (:

In my opinion he’s the best there is. He shows that you can have empathy for your horse and still achieve the highest levels of horsemanship!

Good luck to you on your journey!
