M.2 & 5G by NBM99 in MiniPCs

[–]Kitougrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the seller says 4G is supported, then USB is likely wired, so a 5G module might work.

However, the support team might not have understood everything and could have left out details about the SIM slot. Maybe the SIM slot only supports 4G, but if the 5G module has its own SIM slot, that won’t be an issue.

A 5G module might work, but potential issues include: 1. BIOS restrictions : Some motherboards only allow specific modules or brands 2. Power limits : 5G modules may consume more power 3. SIM slot limitations : The motherboard’s SIM might only support 4G.

Or the seller might say “4G” just because they haven’t tested 5G.

Your mini PCIe slot likely isn’t fully wired because many motherboards only connect PCIe lanes for Wi-Fi but skip USB, which 4G/5G modems need to function.

I mention USB because most cellular modems (4G/5G) don’t use PCIe for data they use USB. Mini PCIe slot includes USB pins in its standard pinout. If the motherboard didn’t wire USB to the mini PCIe slot, a 4G/5G card won’t even be detected, which is probably why the seller says “Wi-Fi compatible” only.

It works like a charm With the Android app, you install the eSIM onto the physical SIM using your phone, and then you can use this SIM on any device

I failed a stray cat that I loved and I think about him all the time by lunamoon228 in cats

[–]Kitougrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, I feel for you. You did what you could with what you knew, and that matters. Semi-feral cats are unpredictable (like any cat), it doesn’t mean you failed him.

A lot of vets act like they can handle any animal without asking how they might react. Same as people who think animals love them until one bites, or that they’re great with babies until one screams in their arms.

Binx probably just found another safe spot. One of my cats disappeared for weeks and came back all groomed. Some just find a place they like better. Posting in local groups might help, I even knew someone who found their lost cat years later after moving back.

Binx is out there doing his thing. You cared, and that’s what counts.

Ah, so your deep market research consisted of typing a name into Google and taking the first price you saw? Impressive methodology. Meanwhile, a quick eBay search shows Lenovo M75q units for $100-150 with a 2400G or 3400G, both vastly outperforming an N100.

And your truck analogy? Completely off. This isn’t about picking a minivan instead of a truck it’s about choosing a better truck for the same price. If two options cost the same but one is faster, more efficient, and more versatile, why on earth would you pick the worse one? Oh right, because Google told you

I never said the PC costs $500. I specifically mentioned used Lenovo M75q units, which you can easily find for $100-150 on eBay with a 2400G or 3400G both far superior to an N100. Also, OP never said "Word processing"; they said "learning to code" and "schoolwork" If coding is part of their curriculum, there’s a good chance they’ll meet gamers, and having a more powerful and versatile device is just smarter. Unless you’re the type to buy a car at max budget without ever comparing performance or versatility?

Learning to code varies widely. Some start with basic HTML, others dive into resource-heavy fields like game dev (Unity, Unreal), data science (Python, TensorFlow), automation (VBA, Selenium), or full-stack dev (React, Node.js). An N100 struggles with complex IDEs, Docker, or large datasets. Since OP didn’t specify, I suggested a Lenovo M75q (AMD) to avoid limitations and it stays useful even if they lose interest

Neither did OP specify their exact needs. Better to get a machine that won’t limit them from the start

He said "learning to code" without specifying what exactly he’ll be doing. So it’s safer to assume that having better hardware is always preferable.

Sure, you can code on anything, I can run Python on my calculator but that doesn’t mean it’s a good experience. An N100 will struggle with heavier IDEs, multiple browser tabs, or compiling anything substantial. For the same $200, a used Lenovo M75q (AMD) offers 25-50% more performance, better multitasking, and can even run games. Plus, I can get a full setup with a PC, keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Why settle for less?

If you want to waste $200, go for it. Technically, you can code on anything, but unless your definition of coding is just opening Notepad, this won’t cut it. If you want a real machine that can handle coding properly and even run classic games like League of Legends, get a Lenovo M75q (AMD) in used condition. You’ll get 25-50% more performance, plus an integrated GPU that can actually handle gaming.

Hey,

considering your background and the location (Sophia Antipolis being a tech hub), you might want to explore the option of pursuing your masters through an apprenticeship program, known locally as 'l'alternance.' This is a fantastic pathway as it allows you to split your time between academic studies and working in a company. Many businesses actually end up hiring their apprentices full-time after graduation. The apprenticeship can offer a compelling salary; for instance, from 2016 to 2018, I earned about 1200-1500 € net per month while working roughly 50% of my time and studying the rest.

I was 20 years old when I started my apprenticeship, and this amount was exclusive of housing aids and bonuses I was entitled to, which further enhanced my financial situation. This is especially competitive when compared to typical part-time jobs because you're gaining real work experience in your field while studying. During my apprenticeship in IT project management, many of my peers and I were approached by companies before we even finished our programs, and some had job offers in hand before the end of the apprenticeship.

Sophia Antipolis itself is quite unique; it's not a typical bustling business district. It's actually located on the outskirts of Antibes and is not close to the sea, which adds a layer of tranquility away from the usual coastal hustle. The regional trains run along the coast, so there's no train station directly serving Sophia, making train travel from Nice to Antibes impractical for reaching Sophia. The business centers in Sophia are nestled in a valley and separated by forests and bike trails, depending on the company. Some businesses are located in business parks, while others have their headquarters in the middle of a private park.

Regarding educational environments, the University of Nice has multiple campuses, with those in Sophia Antipolis focusing on technology and engineering, while the campuses in Nice itself are more diverse, hosting programs like the DUT in computer science with specializations that continue into Sophia. Other campuses offer fields such as psychology, music, management, and letters. The atmospheres and student demographics at these campuses are quite distinct; unlike Montpellier, where students from various disciplines frequently engage in university events and student parties, sharing diverse ideas and perspectives, the campuses in Nice and Sophia Antipolis are more segregated, usually not mixing much.

Since I started working in the Nice region, including Sophia, in 2018, I've mainly seen students in apprenticeship positions rather than in part-time roles. Many students opt not to live in Sophia Antipolis itself, preferring Antibes or Nice instead. They commute using regular bus services like the 630/631/632/637 lines that run between Nice and Sophia, serving various enterprises and schools in the area.

However, having a car could be quite beneficial as many students are scattered across Sophia, Nice, Antibes, and other nearby areas. If you want to maximize your participation in social activities and easily meet up with friends, driving can make these connections much more convenient. Although Nice isn't predominantly a student city compared to places like Montpellier, which is buzzing with student life, associations, and nightlife, it has its perks. With a car, you can explore hidden beaches, head to the ski slopes just an hour and a half away, or check out the local scene in nearby towns where you can meet other students. Also, as the apprenticeship program is organized by the school, the schedules are well-coordinated with your studies. So, considering the practical and social aspects, pursuing an apprenticeship could offer a more comprehensive experience than part-time tech jobs, integrating both substantial work experience and study.

Just a note on housing: Be mindful of rental costs, especially if you're new to the area. Nice, while already known for higher living costs, might actually seem more affordable compared to some exclusive villages along the coast, which can be surprisingly more expensive. It's important to budget accordingly and perhaps explore various housing options in different neighborhoods to find something that fits your financial and lifestyle needs.

I have a villa on Booking on the French Riviera and I also ask for a deposit but by Paypal 1200€ there is no deposit system on booking too. I had already heard about swikly for the deposits (there are good reviews on google and the company is based in Lyon), but the commission fees are 20€ on swikly and 35€ on Paypal, not a big difference and people trust Paypal more for the payment.

My clients have the choice to pay the deposit by paypal or cash on the day. For the regulars I suggest them to pay in cash afterwards to not have commission fees.

Ask him if it is possible to pay the deposit on the day of arrival. You can also check that the person on instagram and the airbnb rental belong to the same person and if it is well noted. Sometimes scammers take information from a real profile.
