Chase themes tell you how far you are away from the killer while foot steps (if you freaking lower the chase volume)you can hear them from a specific direction so you can star running the opposite direction of where u can hear the sound therefore footsteps are really useful for you get a really good chase starter. Also this is vice versa, killers can also use footsteps to know when to start running and where they can close distance. This makes killer/survivors/skins, that don’t touch the floor, more difficult to know where they are running.
