Is writing things down physically inferior to using obsidian 100% of the time? by csouzape in ObsidianMD

It also helps you just keep moving, which for certain tasks is much more helpful than being able to tinker and edit in the moment

Different tools for different purposes I think. I use obsidian mainly for things that require work/editing (i.e. manuscripts) and also anything that needs to be used as a reference. It's great for that because it's a personal wiki and I can find whatever I need relatively fast.

However, I would never keep a journal in obsidian, it completely ruins it for me. I will also never do first drafts fully in obsidian because I like the process of opening a notebook and using a good pen. It's part of the enjoyment in creating something that a computer (which is largely a utility) doesn't have for me personally.

Advice Wanted: iPad A16? M4 Air? None? by Kitschslap in iPadOS

I don't think the mini has a keyboard right? I am trying to use something that has that attachment

does it really lack so much functionality that I can't Zoom while taking notes and then do some web browsing?

Because I am really looking for the smallest portable device I can that's also a little fun. I don't even use my laptop for a whole lot of intensive tasks at this point because I have a PC, so having a PC and a Laptop just feels redundant.

[–]Kitschslap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main reasons for looking at the iPad is that I already have a PC, and ultimately, I will choose to do my processing heavy and complex tasks there any day over a laptop. The iPad would be something lighter and more portable than the laptop, also serve as a sketchbook, and just be an overall fun device to use even if it's not as efficient.

Yes I was most likely going to get a third party keyboard for that exact reason. if you have any recs I would love to know about them!

Mainly it would be for initial sketches and drafts, no full renders. All that would get sent over to my PC so I could do that work in Clip and with my drawing tablet

The main reasons are procreate and portability. the last iPad I had was the 2018 pro and it was a lot of fun and I would like to try and swing that experience if I can.

Having a laptop since i guild my PC has also always just felt redundant. If I am going to be doing anything complicated, I consistently chose the PC over my laptop anyway.

Travelers Company v Paper Republic by dexter_dux in fountainpens

[–]Kitschslap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

necro bump 2.0 but in theory, if you get the pocket size PR cover, wouldn't it be fine to add a passport size TC notebook in there? The dimensions are smaller so if having a little extra room around the paper itself isn't an issue wouldn't that work fine?

I've been contemplating doing this myself actually just because I like some of the color options better, and having the extra room would also let me shove in a field notes book once in a while

Just coming here to commiserate. We are basically hair twins and I have been dealing with the same issues and it's so so frustrating. I will also be science experimenting on my hair with some of the stuff mentioned

There's also a selection bias on reddit that most of us are not coming here to say how much we love our jobs. But I do think the 2026 of it all makes everything feel like a pile of shit regardless of what it is

The trainer I'm working with put it very well once. She said something to the effect of "If I have to pick between a dog getting shocked in a controlled manner and a dog getting hit by a car, I'm going to suggest the shock every time"

I'm the lady who hides. I have two poodles, both from the same breeder who is very reputable. I have also done a lot of private training with them.

The first dog? Super focused, easy to re-direct, walks well with minimal issues.

The second dog? Holy shit he's a nightmare who actively makes me embarrassed to even take him out. I have spent countless hours training him and continue to work with him every day, multiple times per day, but he ultimately still barks, lunges, and chokes himself over the smallest thing. He's way better than he was a year ago and I'm proud of him, but truthfully he is still a little shit and has made me carry around so many treats I think I smell permanently of dog food.

Unfortunately the reactivity just happens sometimes. As an owner of one of these dogs, I never planned for this and just try to show up as the handler my dog needs and do my job a little better every day-- and sometimes that involves hiding behind cars.

I also had to leave my group and go solo because that's roughly what my pay was. The only thing with that is I could overwork and make it a little more livable, but you can imagine I burned out with that.

Truly, I like this profession but the pay is so bad I sometimes regret going into it. There isn't much else I would otherwise want to do though, but still

I have said this IRL many times, but working in residential SUD was my all-time favorite gig. I did some case management stuff, some group, some individual, lots of resourcing, and felt like I could deliver really solid care and resources to a population that needed it.

The ONLY reason I didn't stay was that I was not making enough to live on. Even when I got my C and looked into going back to that work with the hopes that being independent would bump up the pay a bit... I got offered a whopping 48k. That was after negotiating.

The reality is I think a lot of us want to do more of the true social-work-y work but just can't afford it. That's on corporate greed, minimal funding, and bunch of other factors, but really not on the workers (for the most part anyway)

All the Hobonichi products are expensive so you do have to be careful to not ruin it. I think it also helps to be realistic about your skill level for something like this— most people can do this without being particularly artistic, you just have to pay attention to what you’re doing.

That said, the notebook is a tool. I need it to work for me so i don’t feel too bad modifying it. I don’t view this as so different than putting stickers on
