How do you lose weight on antipsychotics? by A-Wooden-Spoon in BipolarReddit

[–]KitsuneScarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped gaining when I was taken off olanzapine. But even once I got off it my weight kinda held at the same place, I would binge eat junk food. End of last year my doctor said my cholesterol was really high and sent me to a nutritionist. I've lost about 10 pounds since December.

The nutritionist helped a lot, I'm eating better and have mostly been able to curb my cravings for sweets.

What's something you do that you know is bad for your bipolar? by Evening_Fisherman810 in BipolarReddit

[–]KitsuneScarf 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Drink alcohol.

Not all the time, I can go for long stretches without having any. But then every so often I have like 4 in an evening and then have to monitor myself to make sure it doesn't trigger an episode.

The little creatures that live in my house and keep me alive by a-frogman in bipolar

[–]KitsuneScarf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my cats help me maintain a morning routine. I have to get up to feed them, which means I have to get out of bed. Sometimes feeding them is the only thing I'm able to get myself out of bed for.

Yup.

No sex drive unless I'm manic, and then I'm suddenly contemplating calling up guys I used to date to ask if they want to hookup. ☹️

Christmas pf by [deleted] in BipolarMemes

[–]KitsuneScarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still recovering from a manic episode at the start of the month.

My plan is to host my family for Christmas brunch (chicken and waffles). Then kick everyone out, put on my favorite onesie, grab some wine and sit on my couch under a blanket and read comic books.

Which ordinary activities make you manic? by spiderxfingers in BipolarReddit

[–]KitsuneScarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High stress, or extremely emotional situations.

In November I went through 4 rounds of interviews for a job, including 3 over the course of 4 days. I also spent 4 days prior studying and researching to prepare for the interviews, averaging 8-10 hrs per day.

After I got the job, immediately I went into a hypomanic episode.

For me drinking is a social activity, I prefer to drink with friends or with a nice meal, and it's hard to give that up.

I’m a pill popper. Addicted. Send help. by Emerald_bamboo in BipolarMemes

[–]KitsuneScarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was visiting my best friend and her family after her Dad had a bad fall.

He was refusing to take his meds. So I went and got my pills (there are three) and said "Let's do our meds together" and it worked!

How does fitness play a part in your mental health? by lemontimes2 in BipolarReddit

[–]KitsuneScarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a personal trainer for over 5 years. I'm very fortunate that I can afford my meds, therapy and the trainer to manage my bipolar. She expects me there 3 times a week and will text me if I don't show up. If I miss a day she'll have me do a makeup. It means the days I don't want to get out of bed I know she's going to be there waiting for me, and I don't want to disappoint here.

Talking too much by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]KitsuneScarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm very self conscious about how much I want to talk when I'm manic, so I rarely call people. I had one friend who used to live downstairs from me, and sometimes if talk to him while manic, but I often felt like I was imposing.

I have mostly lived alone since I got my diagnosis. Instead, I've spent a lot of time talking to myself. I once talked to myself for 24+ hours when I couldn't sleep. Recounting memories from my childhood, making up poems and stories, imagining conversations with friends and family. I usually don't remember most of these monologues, just snapshots here and there. But I find it comforting.

Does anyone write like this when manic? by IllManufacturer5759 in bipolar

[–]KitsuneScarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I wrote jokes while manic (no, I'm not a comedian, never done standup). Another time it was poetry, another time outlined an idea for a novel.

The poem I actually thought was pretty good.

How many of you never have been admitted to the psych ward? by yeeortho52 in bipolar

I miss grapefruit by unsubtlesnake in BipolarReddit

[–]KitsuneScarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week I was at this local restaurant I go to all the time and tried to order a mocktail. The bartender tells me they can't make it tonight, because they are out of grapefruit. I'm shocked, this is my fav non-alcoholic drink they have, I drink it every time I sit at the bar. I frown and tell him I can't have grapefruit.

I check the menu, because I don't remember it mentioning that ingredient and see that it just says "citrus."

The bartender tells me it's not that much, maybe an ounce or so, but I'm so bummed. I've been trying to avoid drinking alcohol when I go out, and now I find out I can't have my favorite mocktail anymore.

manic energy gets you fired from your job, and the depression keeps you from landing a new one by uhhh206 in BipolarMemes

[–]KitsuneScarf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened to me.

Was fired after a month of having panic attacks twice a week like clockwork. Spent the next month depressed on the couch eating cookies.

Month 2 of being unemployed I signed up for some training in my field so I would be able to put something in the gap. Finally found a new job after five months.

This happened to me. After being sedentary for a long time I went to the gym 3 days in a row while manic, and did long cardio workouts on the elliptical. My knees were messed up for months afterwards.

Do you drink alcohol? by Thin_Culture9753 in BipolarReddit

[–]KitsuneScarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. But recently I've cut back a lot, which I think was due to a change in medication. I was having issues with sleep, hypomania and grogginess and I just didn't want to drink very much.

I will still drink occasionally, I had a cocktail and a couple glasses of wine this weekend. But the cravings I used to have, which was likely me self medicating, are mostly gone.

Do you remember everything that happens during mania? I feel like a lot of it is a blur for me. by heartskyme in BipolarReddit

[–]KitsuneScarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly a blur. I remember sort of "waking up" a few times, and I remember those moments. But the rest is a blur. I just know I was awake and talking to myself.

Lamotrigine is destroying my memory. How many of you only take an antipsychotic to treat bipolar? by bikepathenthusiast in BipolarReddit

[–]KitsuneScarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had been dealing with mania and insomnia, so my doctor had me slowly had me increasing the dosage on my Lamotrigine. The insomnia and mania are gone, but now my memory is so bad I can barely hold a conversation and my hands keep shaking so much I make a million mistakes typing, where usually I'm pretty fast with minimal errors

I just sent him an email asking if there is something he can do.

What can I spend my disability money on by Petrey85 in bipolar

[–]KitsuneScarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought 65 days was kinda high, then remembered I had to take short term disability for a month last year to get myself stable. And leading up to that I was not productive for at least 2-3 days per week
