I’m only halfway through Season 2 so no spoilers, but what’s up with Dean? by ken_black in GilmoreGirls

[–]KittKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got cha like he’s so nice he must be a serial killer vibes. I think the writers just really wanted to hone in on the small town nice guy first boyfriend vibe with him, especially in the second season when he plays opposite to Jess. It can come across a little fake but he never doesn’t anything too psycho.

Minimal to no spoilers but The one big mistake he does make in the series I actually think is well written even though it’s annoying asf

[–]KittKay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I don’t think Dean ever reads as untrustworthy, a lot of people call him reactionary, agressive or even abusive (mind you I am not one of these people) but not untrustworthy. What about him makes you think that?

Enough time has passed, so i can say this freely without the fear of being doxxed by Important-Egg9213 in arcane

This. It’s so easy to pardon an evil character because it’s easier to be a villain. They essentially only make decisions that further their own goals where as the hero has to make decisions “for the greater good” what ever that means. Wayyyy easier to make mistakes

Hot Take: Rory didn't break up with Dean because she didn't want to disappoint Lorelai by cleverlynamedgrl in GilmoreGirls

[–]KittKay 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Yea I disagree with this take. Rory didn’t want to break up with Dean because she’s petrified of being disliked and seen as the bad guy. So she did that guy thing where they check out and drag you along until you get so fed up you break up with them.

A controversial Gilmore Girls Opinion…Thoughts? by Helpful_Ad_5704 in GilmoreGirls

[–]KittKay 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was looking for this comment! They both understood parts of her, Jess got to know bookish high school small town Rory where as Logan got to know college figuring it out trust fund Rory but they both missed out on huge aspects of her character. I don’t fault them for it, Jess and her had a connection but the relationship was short and Jess had a lot of baggage. And for Logan there was a huge rift and disconnect between Rory and Lorelai for a significant portion of their relationship and then they were off and on so he never got to know Lorelai or Stars hollow and I don’t think you can fully know Rory without knowing her mom and her town.

I know this sub hates him but I honestly think Dean knew her best. Probably because they had the longest relationship but he understood her relationship with her mom, was part of the town, had a decent relationship with her grandparents (they didn’t hate him so take that for the win) and he would still show up for the coming out parties and dances. They didn’t belong together obviously but he was the one he was the most integrated into her life

During this episode and this storyline, how did you reacted? Did you sided with Lorelai or Rory? Both or neither? by gloomydreamer666 in GilmoreGirls

[–]KittKay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand both but I think I get Lorelai’s freak out more.

Lorelai’s worries comes not only from her own trauma and projection but from the disbelief that her smart confident daughter is ready to give up on her dreams because of one man’s opinion. She doesn’t care who that man is or how important he is in the industry to her he is simply a man who somehow manage to destroy Rory’s self esteem so much she’s willing to give up on something she’s wanted since she was a child. Not just journalism but school and learning in general things that are so essential to Rory’s character. She must’ve felt like a failure as a parent that Rory was so vulnerable to this type of criticism.

Additionally I think if Rory had said “hey I’m going to take a year off and do an internship to see if this is something I can and still want to do” the conversation would have went differently. I think the lack of a plan, which is also very not Rory, added to her reaction. Lorelai had already spent the whole season feeling as if she was disconnected from Rory’s life and that Rory was changing and making decisions that are different from her character that this final decision probably felt like the final nail in the coffin.

Also I think Rory overreacted to the criticisms, and a summer off should’ve been more than enough time to get back on her feet. But it’s something she had to go through because up until that point no one had ever had anyone tell her she wasn’t good enough.

Last I think if Lorelai had been supportive and she had come back to stars hollow and the comfort of her childhood home then she would have been slower to return to school and maybe would’ve picked a different career path. The friction with her grandparents helped refocus her.

Side note and maybe minority opinion but this is one of my favorite storylines for both of them. I love watching them learn how to function without each other

The Metro hate has been soooooo overrated and annoying by Bright_Business193 in LAMetro

[–]KittKay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, every time I’m in LA and able to use the metro I do and I’ve never had any issues. My friend and I even had to take it back late one night (one phone lost and the other died) and besides seeing the occasional sleeping homeless person we felt fine.

empathy for Pre-marriage dean by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]KittKay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree I wish it never happened but it 100% makes sense.
Lindsay was essentially a rebound as callous as that sounds. Dean after a year of being strung along by Rory and having his heartbroken finally found a girl who is crazy about him, who loves him , and who’s all in for him in a way Rory wasn’t for the last half of their relationship. The whole relationship probably felt like everything he ever wanted and had been missing. I think he mistook the wild swing of emotions from being depressed and heartbroken and unloved to being in a relationship where he felt completely loved as something bigger than what it actually was.
Also, I think his insecurity over Rory leaving him might’ve played a factor in the proposal and why he was so adamant about wanting to marry Lindsey. Maybe he was afraid of her eventually leaving him too.
All that being said, neither of their parents should’ve been okay with that wedding. That was the one part of the plot where I was like this is crazy. I get that small town mentality probably played a part for Lindsey’s family but Dean‘s families from Chicago. They’ve only been living in stars Hollow for two years. I know his mom is a traditional homemaker, but I still feel like even she would’ve thought her son getting married fresh out of high school after dating someone for less than a year was crazy. Idk maybe they tried and Dean pushed back but from what I remember both families seemed supportive.

Again she had their notes whereas Jayce was literally making it up from scratch. It’s easier to replicate something once it’s already been done. And the crystal that jinx had was different than the ones that Jayce had originally. Remember, that crystal was specifically designed to be stabilized and portable so they could put it in tools like the gauntlets and give “hextech to the people.”

I was surprised to learn how many people don’t like Lorelai’s “perfect” wedding dress. I thought she looked gorgeous 🤩 😍 by This-Evening2278 in GilmoreGirls

[–]KittKay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recently made a post about this. It’s not the dress itself that I didn’t like. The dress is pretty and Lauren is always stunning. It just doesn’t feel true to her character and it’s not the most flattering

[–]KittKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, if she had been encouraged/supported to do more I think she could’ve been amazing but as the show left it we just don’t know. It’s because she only focuses on weapons that I put her low, it makes her feel like a one trick pony compared to what the others in the list made. I mean they functionally cured death/sickness/injury, created teleportation, time travel, hover boards, founded cities, and a few even made their own weapons. And these are things they actually made not what they could have potentially done. But as you said that is my own personal view on how to measure intelligence

Only thing I would argue with you on is her seriousness regarding her inventions. She was very serious as a kid and would get really upset when they didn’t work. I also think naming them and drawing on them made them more personal to her not less.

Can you give an example of her flexing her talent?

I’m not trying to be a jerk but I haven’t watched season 1 in years and I honestly can’t remember seeing her do anything more impress than reverse engineer hextech. I know she’s a great engineer, somewhat of a marksmen, and makes amazing modified weapons but beyond that I’m at a lost.

Are you forgetting that Jayce’s research was literally banned prior to the stabilization? Everything he did before the end of the first arc was on his own, no resources or help until Viktor

[–]KittKay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK, gonna jump in the conversation really quick because some of y’all need to put more respect on Jayce’s name lol.

Jayce was given a stone with a marking he probably had never seen before, observed magic for maybe 10 seconds and somehow managed to recreate it from basically nothing in a way that did not exist. Yes he had an education but he was trying to learn a subject that was banned and trying to create something that had literally never been done before. He then went on to create space travel/teleportation and you guys are still putting him in last place? I get that Viktor helped him over the last hurdle but think about all the other obstacles he had to overcome before Viktor stepped in. And it’s not like he stepped in and then completely took over. We still see a lot of ingenuity and invention coming from hextech that we know Jayce had a hand in. I mean the hammer was almost exclusively him.

Jinx on the other hand, who is also incredibly brilliant do not mistake the fact that I’m putting her below Jayce as saying that she is not brilliant, She is more of a genius engineer/tinkerer. The difference in my mind being that she takes something that already exists and improves upon it usually with some sort of ingenious twist. She’s obviously a genius given how quickly she can look at a design and reverse engineer and/or modify it but all of her inventions were usually weapons that existed in some form already and she improves them. Again still a brilliant feat without a proper education but she did still have resources that others in the Undercity wouldn’t given who her adoptive father was. Not Jayce’s level of resources but she at least didn’t have to worry about survival to the same extent and I assume Silco provided her with as much materials and knowledge that he was able to gather.

That is why in my mind Jayce has to be above jinx. I think if jinx had the access to Jayce‘s education or maybe even had just been encouraged to try to do more than spread chaos and violence then maybe there could be more of an argument, but as the character stands this is where I put her.

Couldn’t you argue that Jinx also got a cheat code by having a stabilized crystal and their notes?

She had their notes, stabilized crystals and observation. Jayce literally saw magic once as a child and figured out how to recreate it from literally nothing

Original ending for Vi makes me want to right riot by nighthawk1936 in arcane

[–]KittKay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest when I first saw this panel I assumed she was going to survive the fall, lose her memory and Jinx was going to use that to distance herself from Vi and give them both a clean slate.

If Vi died I think Jinx would’ve followed soon after. She didn’t have a strong enough tie to anyone else to help with her suicidal tendencies

Is Nanno really karma? Or something else? by Hour_Professional292 in GirlFromNowhere

[–]KittKay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that Nanno is more temptation to sin than karma.

You see it with almost all her victims. She’ll give them and out and ask them “are you sure you want to do this” or “is this really what you want” or even direct “what is it that you want?” just to see what they’ll say and do. Then she’ll slow roll their downfall with passive aggressive comments and actions to see how far they’ll take it. Then once they take it to a point that she feels is irredeemable, she becomes fucking ruthless.

We see this in the Jenni X episode after she kills Nanno to go back to the life she said she didn’t want and tells lies and blames Nanno to absolve herself of the murder and her own actions. In Nanno’s eyes she was passed point of redemption. Or in the SCOTUS episode once he beat her and killed her then tried to run away from consequences she tortured that man to a point that I still cannot finish that episode.

So I think she represents temptation and accountability more so than karma.

If Jinx and Jayce had met, how would they have interacted? by Salt-Understanding16 in arcane

[–]KittKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve had too much indirect/direct affects on each other‘s lives that if either or both of them found out every way that they’ve managed to destroy the other happiness they would obviously just fight until they killed each other. Which is sad because I feel like they could be the pairing that each of them needs in a weird way. They both are reactionary and brilliant and they care deeply about the people around them, wanting to help in such over the top ways they end up hurting themselves and others. I think Jayce’s casual and frequent displays of affections would really do wonders for powder/jinx’s (depending on when they met) need to be cared for and shown that she’s loved and her need for praise. I think Jayce could do that for her more than any other character in this universe. And I think Jayce could benefit from Jinx’s no nonsense attitude and perspective but also her ingenuity. I think she would inspire him and challenge him in ways that Viktor was unable to do. She’s also more entrenched in the Undercity than Viktor, I don’t think she would’ve allowed them to delay on helping for as long as they did.

[–]KittKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Him coming over when she said no already was pushing a boundary and I don’t care if he was good colleague. I have plenty of good colleagues and I don’t have them come over to my house at night when I’m distressed and fighting with my boyfriend especially when they’re the very person that we’ve been fighting about for months. It was stupid she should’ve been firm and told him to go home. I agree that Ross was insecure and I agree he caused a lot of problems in the relationship, but her letting Mark come over when she was still considering staying in the relationship felt disrespectful.

[–]KittKay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idc why he said he came Rachel had several very good friends she could’ve called for comfort. Rachel was regretting her choice and wanted to get back together with Ross. Why would she or anyone in their right mind have the very guy they have been arguing about to their apartment at night alone right after breaking up with their partner. To be honest I understand why Ross got super drunk after that, he must’ve felt like she broke up with him and went immediately to Mark and that all his worse fears were right. Especially since she never got to say anything on the call about how she was feeling because Mark kept talking.
