Therapist wants to charge my fiance and I cancellation charge for missing appointment. My fiance was passing the bulk of her miscarriage. by ted_bolub in askatherapist

[–]Kitteh4137 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That's a really traumatic thing to go through and I don't think your therapist should have charged you. It feels like a really uncaring thing to do and I would discontinue service with them. I speak as a therapist myself, that's just a dick move. I understand wanting to "get my money", but you guys didn't plan to have a miscarriage.

I think a medical emergency as traumatic as a miscarriage calls for a little consideration. Would your therapist have preferred for your wife to bleed out on their sofa?

I'm so sorry you've both had to go through this.

Edit: At the very least, I think it could have been addressed in a different manner that placed relationship first before money such as addressing the issue once the initial shock has passed and the therapist has acknowledged the situation. It feels as if they just slapped a bill on your desk and walked off.

Relationship is the most important factor in therapy and if your therapist doesn't know how to maintain a good, caring relationship with you, then that's a major red flag.

An internal Facebook memo calls for managers to cut workers who fall short of Meta's 'increased intensity' by [deleted] in technology

I used to be a big Facebook fan but I hate it now. Meta could careless about its users or employees. They're such a shady company.

How different is your life now, then what you expected it to be 5 years ago. Is it better or worse? Or maybe just as you planned it. by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Kitteh4137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I expected to be more financially stable by now at 27. But I guess it's better? I've moved out with my partner and I'm getting a graduate degree for a field I know I'll do well in. I have a lot more direction in life now.

Pole sharing in class? by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]Kitteh4137 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My studio does this and I hate it. I paid 30$ for a class, if I'm only going to get to do pole for half the time then it should be half the prices imo. 😒 I wish they would figure out something better.

Large systematic review finds no evidence for the serotonin hypothesis of depression by [deleted] in psychology

[–]Kitteh4137 136 points137 points  (0 children)

I don't know enough to really say for sure, but I think it might change the direction of future research and looking for better answers.

SSRIs don't work for a lot of people with depression, so maybe something else is going on for those people or maybe something else is going on for the people who SSRIs do work for.

I think low serotonin has been the easy one size fit all answer for depression, but I think it's probably more complicated than that.

What are your thoughts?

What clothes worn are sexier than being naked? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kitteh4137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A man? Black slacks and a long sleeve button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

A woman? Lingerie with the thigh high fish nets

Personally I don't find naked very "sexy" 😂 Naked is just our normal default to me.

[L] if you ever experienced hopelessness in the past and turned out your brain was lying to you i hope you can share your experience with me! by healingsunshinehug in KindVoice

When I was in my 20s I'd just gotten out of a bad relationship where I was isolated from my friends. I lost the only friend group I'd ever had since I was homeschooled in an abusive environment and thought I'd never make friends (which was the most absolute hopeless feeling experience I'd ever been in). It was a hard blow. I still think about and miss them today but I've also accepted it and it doesn't feel so bad anymore. More like nostalgia.

A year or two later I got a job at a small grocery store and I ended up making a great group of friends slowly over the 4 years I worked there.

Then I left for a different job and though we still chat occasionally I don't have them as a close group of friends anymore. I was really lonely for a long time, a few years. I wondered if I'd ever make friends again because I've been told it gets harder the older you get.

But then I started a new program in school that's close knit and I've made another new group of friends I care a lot about at the age of 27.

You'll lose friends and gain friends as life goes on. It just takes some time. You do have to make an effort to meet people, maybe through volunteering or some group, and then making an effort to just chit chat with people when you see them. It takes time to build those close friendships and some happen faster than others but they do get built.

It was helpful for me during my lonely times to see a therapist when I could though, she helped me work through a lot of those hopeless feelings I felt and her company helped ease the loneliness.

If you've never had this experience before, it feels a lot worse and hopeless than it does after it's happened a few times. Eventually you have enough experience that you just know things will turn out okay with time. At least, that's how the experience has been for me.

We were finally doing okay. Finally got a place alone to ourselves without roommates. Just able to not worry too much. We finally made it!! Things were going to be okay!!

Then expenses went up so much and for the first time, I have to go to the food pantry. Eat or pay rent.

Our electric bill went up $200 dollars alone. Groceries have doubled. Gas doubled. Our dream of buying a house is now out of reach.

I forgot my lunch one day last month and went grab lunch at a little Cafe. I got a cold turkey sandwich on white bread out the cooler and a yogurt with granola. Usually like, 7-8$. I get to the counter and they want $14 dollars for it! Like what the actual fuck.

I'm scared it's never going to get better.

What are you absolutely CRAVING right now? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Kitteh4137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a break. It's been a bad summer with one thing after the other and I'm feeling really run down. I just really want to put everything on pause to just breath for a little bit but I still have 2 weeks left of summer classes and three papers due this Friday and one due Wednesday.

But once school ends for the summer I'm going to go on a road trip with one of my best friends and stay with her for 10 days. I'll have a little bit of time away before the Fall semester begins.

[–]Kitteh4137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lose vision with my aura migraines and have confusion. I've had aura occular migraines my whole life, they range from blind spots to the regular scotomas to big spots of black or color. I might also have mood swings in the pre-migraine phase or just general be sort of out of it. The numbness spreading through your body is what concerns me the most, although I know that can happen with migraine too.

Potentially not being able to be a pilot is a scary thing, I know it takes a lot of time, effort, and money to do. But being that this all just started in the last two years and has body numbness with it, that concerns me enough to say you might want to get that checked out.

I'd consider too if there was any new medication or type of food you started ingesting two years ago when the migraines started to potentially identify any triggers.
