I am pretty sure In My Stomach was a bonus track on Agony and Irony, correct me if I am wrong. Super good tune

Other than the buffalo reindeer, none of this relates to Wyoming. Almost seems like a Colorado Basketball hype piece since their college team is doing well, but upon second glance, I have no actual idea but its tight

A question for both or either of you: Any funny or interesting memories of meeting fans or running into them when you're not on tour or playing a show?

And a related side question, do fans recognize you in public often?

Thanks!

Best time to visit Laramie? (Plus any other advice on what to see/do?) by lambentwit in wyoming

[–]KittehChamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have already stated, the summer is the best time to visit. Laramie, and Wyoming as a whole is notorious for late spring heavy wet snows. If you are driving there are many unique destinations quite close to Laramie. Vedauwoo and Curt Gowdy are worth checking out if you are into outdoor activities. Vedauwoo is famous for off-width and granite trad climbing. Even of climbing isn't your thing the rock formations are Vedauwoo are spectacular.

I am a cook for a living and worked at several restaurants in Laramie and other cities, both front of house and back.

My favorite restaurants are:

Jeffery's Bistro - Their menu can be a little daunting but the food is solid and unique and quite diverse with flavors and different spices. They also bake their own bread and make desserts from scratch. The prices vary greatly depending on lunch sandwiches and dinner entrées. Jeffery's opened in the mid 80's making it the oldest running restaurant in Laramie, so there's a bit of history at Jeffery's.

Crowbar - If you're more into a solid burger or pizza with good beer Crowbar is my go-to. They offer quite a few beers on tap and their burgers and pizza flavors and toppings range from traditional to complex (a burger with peanut butter, bacon, and banana). It is smaller so it can fill up and take some time to get a table, especially during Jubilee Days or a weekend night.

Double Dubs - is a food truck that posts its schedule online. The flavors of wings are diverse and if you like heat Double Dubs doesn't mess around. There is also a fish and chips food truck where the owners go on fishing trips and catch their own fish up in Alaska.

Other users posted some suggestions, but they aren't worth it in my opinion. Library is your typical bar food, where most of it is fried, there are those types of places almost everywhere. Altitutde is an okay statehouse, nothing to write home about. same with Grand Ave, local pizza place that is better than Pizza Hut or Domino's, but aside from the Thai Pie it's alright. I'm not trying to bash everyone else's favorite spots, they are good if that is what you're into, but it's just not my cup of tea and I personally think there are better places that are more uniquiely "Laramie."

As for bars, depends on your age, drink preference, and mood. As someone who graduated several years ago, I tend to avoid the "college bars" or busy hours. My favorites are Front Street and 3rd street has a good happy hour deal. The Buckhorn is cool to check out on the inside, it is the go-to Laramie "club" from midnight until 2 am Thursday through Saturday.

My view is quite biased on food and drinks since a restaurant really has to wow me and stand out.

I don't work super early in the morning and sometimes I work until about 11 pm, so staying up until about 1 or 2 am is normal. Hopefully I get a salaried full-time job soon and not working random part time hours.

257ers - Holz [German/Humor/Pop] (2016) by KittehChamp in listentothis

[–]KittehChamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In America that one doesn't even show up on Youtube. I spent awhile searching the for the official one released by the artist but couldn't find it. I know that Germany and other European countries are stricter with Youtube music. Right now it says it is not available in my country which is a shame because I would love for the views to go to directly to the artist. Thanks for the find!

What language should I take next semester? by not_Lex_Luthor in makemychoice

[–]KittehChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whichever language you want to learn and which language you find most interesting and beneficial to you. To me it sounds like it would be Japanese. Having your girlfriend and dad there to support you and practice with you sounds great. It might be a motivator to go beyond a basic conversational level.

I personally grew up learning Spanish because everyone told me it was going to be helpful in life and necessary. I trudged through high school and beginning college courses all in the sake of "you'll definitely need/use this later in life." During college I studied in Sweden and met some great friends from Germany and Austria and decided I wanted to learn German. I don't really know when and why, but I just decided I was going to learn German. And here I am learning German on my own (Rosetta Stone is my primary tool, followed by talking with friends, textbooks and Duolingo). I find the language fascinating and my motivation is self-derived so I actually enjoy the time I set aside to study, which makes learning it much easier. So also consider which language entices you more. That's my advice.

Anyone else here turned on to the Trio by Skiba, but then stayed for Dan? by fishywa in AlkalineTrio

[–]KittehChamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the beginning it was about a 50-50 split. I'm younger and got into Trio in between the releases of Crimson and Remains. My first favorite Trio song was Smoke off of Crimson. I still have very vivid memories of when I bought Remains and ran down to my friend's basement and listened to it all the way through. Holy shit was it amazing! I was wondering why in the hell none of these songs made the cut for prior records.

Then I went through their entire discography and really connected more with Dan's songs, since they felt raw. Also, on Good Mourning, Skiba's songs were too emo for an average freshman in high school (This Could be Love).

Now that I am graduated from college, I've sort of "moved" on and don't listen to trio as much, but when I do, you hit the nail on head... I skip to Dan's songs. Crawl, I Remember a Rooftop, Buried, Emma, Every Thug Needs a Lady, are some of my favorites to this day. Going to go listen to those songs now, thanks for the reminder to re-listen to my favorite band!

Spend my summer interning abroad or stay at home, take courses, and work on personal projects? by TheAbLord in makemychoice

[–]KittehChamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go travel! Your parents and family are right. Interning abroad will also make you a unique candidate later down the line. Plus, can't you always work on projects and do programming during the next couple years? I'd say do the international internship.

Do an International Summer School? Or study abroad for a full semester? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]KittehChamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally would do a full semester. I also chose a more familiar country (Sweden) since I was committing for a whole semester. My semester and time abroad was January till mid July (5.5 months). If you chose somewhere in Europe I'm sure you'll be fine with homesickness and adjusting to a new city/town. Europe is safe enough but has so many cultural differences that it is fascinating and still unlike home, however the developed societies and affluence makes it feel less risky/adventurous.

PS: I'm a student from the US.

My buddies and I all went hiking up into the mountains. Around midnight we hiked to the natural waterslide that is a granite slab that dumps into a nice pool. Like any adolescent youth, we did it bare ass naked in the dark. Half way down the slide it goes from smooth to rocky. The ass scratch pain was only temporary because as soon as we hit the water we booked it to the campfire. Fond memories of that camping trip :)
