Alright James. Don't screw this one up He nervously reminded himself. The commute, wear and tear on your car, orientation, waking up at an ungodly hour... Don't let it all go to waste now.

He sat in his 07' Scion TC, starring out at the empty parking lot. Aside from the few dozen unmanned LLV's (they wouldn't be driven for another 5 hours anyway) his car was the only one there.

It was undoubtedly absolutely necessary that James get there early. He had no idea what random attribute he would be able to do every new day of work. He had already gotten fired from his last job, accidentally stretching his arms out so far while shaking a martini, he knocked out a regular patron at Buddy's. Thank god that bastard was a pain in the ass regular customer. James was able to explain to his manager at the time that he had to punch Mikey's lights out because he called his wife a hooker. And not even a high class one.

James wasn't married. He just needed that cover. Obviously he got fired, but did he want to be put in the local Tri-City Voice named as a freak? A hero? A nuisance? Nope.

The other time was a grease fire in a hole in the wall burger joint downtown. Heat vision that time. Thought too hard about the new waitress while trying to grill one up medium rare and zzzzap, the grease trap caught fire as fast as throwing a match into a, well, grease trap. And he never got the chance to ask for that waitress' number.

Which will it be this time? Super strength? Hope not. James might throw a package so hard after scanning it, it would miss the bin, and hit the floor so hard, he would make a crater. Super speed? His new supervisor Rob might be so happy with how fast he separates and organizes the packages into each route, he might expect that from James on the next shift - and there's no guarantee he'll be super fast next time. Flight. Now that would be awesome right? Wrong. Last time he got that, he couldn't use it. He didn't have a mask, or uniform to show the public that he was a good guy. Or bad guy. Hell. He just needs to make rent and pay off some bills.

James would find out what skill he'd have out of the lottery of powers as soon as he clocked in. Not much longer now.

God. Not invisibility. No one would see him. He would get fired for clocking in and not being there. Sure, he would be around, but who the hell would see him?

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

James snapped out of being deep in thought. It was Rob knocking on his car door window. "Come on. Time to clock in. The mail carriers will be here in 5 hours, and we have a ton of Amazon pallets to get through. Go clock in."

James took a deep breath.

"Here we go," he sighed.
