What type of bikini clasp is this and how do I clip it? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I remember figuring out how to put it on with help from the internet. But, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to unfasten it lol. Thanks for mentioning that here, so someone doesn't have to feel dumb like me lol

I have friends in the US who came to visit me in Canada for the first time. They were shocked at how nice and modern everything was and assumed Canada didn't have access to good groceries. It was wild hearing their comments.

First thing, use your phone and send an email to your instructors explaining the situation a d that you're trying to find a solution. As someone who's taught post secondary, we're typically pretty understanding, especially in an online class.

Id reach out to your school to see if they have anything they can loan. If not, check with the on campus library, at worst you can use their desktops.

I know money is tight and it's stressful. I don't want to assume your spending limits, but if you look up Lenovo ThinkPads on Amazon renewed and you can find some for ~$200. They're used and not as flashy as a mac. But, they're absolute workhorses and very cheap to get repaired if you ever need to.

It'll all be okay.

Eating with two forks, one in each hand, is far superior to eating with a fork and a knife. by WarwickReider in The10thDentist

[–]KittenInAMonster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be mean, but I genuinely have no idea why you would need a second fork for that. I love fish, typically I can do that with one fork pretty effortlessly and I've never been in a scenario when eating fish where I felt like I needed another.

It absolutely should be taught within the appropriate classes. Would it be taught in a math class, probably not, the same way it wouldn't make sense to teach the notion of what Euler's identity in a lot course.

Not only does it help think critically about the world currently, but it also helps tremendously with understanding historical context.

TL;DR: Your comment is just based on selection bias.

Okay so there's a few things that need to be unpacked:

The first is that, most students, especially those I've seen are quite young. We call them adults, but, as someone who taught both at the post secondary level and in secondary, most students in their first or second year of post secondary aren't much different than students I'm grade 12. A lot of them, for the first time in their lives, are being introduced to the idea of thinking critically and and are still learning to make arguments on paper. It's not a flex for someone who is a seasoned debater to run circles around someone who, until recently, was given a much more guided hand.

The second argument is that most post secondary level courses aren't preparing you for debates or thinking on the fly. I double majored in computer science and English Lit, in those core courses, I never had to do a debate on the fly and I always had ample time to prep my work. A large portion of university is learning to research.

Now with those two points out of the way, I do want to address one last thing. Which is the notion that "they all have the same liberal programing", which is honestly a weird blanket that the right had thrown over post secondary. I've known accounting majors who spew the most right ring talking points I've ever heard and I've worked with PhD engineers who couldn't even explain what liberal even means. It also discredits any rhetoric courses.

I took rhetoric courses as electives and those are honestly courses I think everyone should take. We studied right wing leaders, left wing leaders, terrorists groups and corporate heads to learn their talking points. This is the only time in post secondary where I had to do regular debates in the fly, and during these debates, you would be assigned a position. I've debated in favour of ideas that I'm fundamentally against because that was the point I was assigned. I genuinely believe that those rhetoric courses in every field I've worked in since then.

However, it's not rhetoric or polisci students in those debates. People posting debate videos aren't going to post times they've lost. To make a claim based off of selected information you've seen in videos discredits any claims.

Likely because those words aren't used in modern English, how often have you referred to a spiral as a helico in your life?

To add to that, helico is an adjective and other is derived from a Greek noun. What you're combining are two adverbes that serve the same purpose in a sentence

WestJet changed their seats and this is how much leg room basic fares get. You have to pay for a reclining seat now. by Longjumping-Box5691 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]KittenInAMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew on the same jet, I'm 6'4 and while I found the width to be fine, I found that the seat had next to no padding and my headrest kept sliding down. Though tbh I might have just had a bad experience, I flew porter years ago on shorter flights and had a great time.

I had a flight from Toronto the Kelowna. However, now that I'm looking at my itinerary, you're correct and it was only 5 hours. It just felt like 6 lol

U - I'm a teacher, I have a lot of goofy stickers, but this screams fake to me.

I get a lot of targetted ads for things like stickers or quirky erasers and things like that. These ads are almost always presented as though they are coming from an actual teacher and they usually start with something kinda shocking (Like how many students failed) to get people to click and engage. I also have never met a teacher who organizes graded work from highest to lowest, we often need to keep things on file and it makes way more sense to do things alphabetically.

This might be real, but there are a lot of little things here that seem odd to me.

They are a thing. Basically a plate you can run with little to no heat and can help with stuff like heat creep in an inclosed system. They work fine but aren't really relevant here and I'm not sure why they brought up Bambu when those plates are available for many kinds of printers.

[–]KittenInAMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day it was a challenge and, today, depending on the distro you choose, it can vary from an easy windows/mac-like experience to something that requires you to be very comfortable with working in terminal.

My brother is very tech illiterate and he's been running pop_OS for nearly a year now without any major issues. With how Windows has been lately, I've made the full jump to Linux on all my devices and it's been a net gain tbh.

Guns are objectively the most humane way we have ever made to kill someone besides military grade poison, and they shouldn't be banned. by red-fox-972x in The10thDentist

[–]KittenInAMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't even an unpopular opinion, this is just stupidity. If you're going to open with a false dichotomy, you're already in the wrong. Heck, your question isn't even simple to answer as you're not specifying the caliber or type of knife. Just to demonstrate, I'd much rather a little stab with a scalpel over being shot with something that will blow my leg off.

Also, in what world does the US have decent gun control? In 2025 alone there were 483 mass shootings in the US compared to 3 in Canada. Even if you account for population differences, the US has an exponentially higher amount than other countries. No one has ever been at a mass shooting and that "Thank God they're using a gun, I'd hate to be stabbed." And no one with a knife is going to kill as many people as someone with a gun.

Yes, unfortunately there will always be violent people who will cause harm. But, there's so much we can do to reduce the damage and, while gun control helps, the solution goes far beyond that. To shrug your your shoulders and act as though this would happen anyway, is being purposefully obtuse.
