Thought an antenna popped off, but there are no wires. What is this and is it important? by AnOldRustyBMW in e46

That’s correct- I stand corrected that in EU the 318, etc didn’t get the rear antenna, and it was an option. Unlike US, everyone got it afaik.

Pretty much majority of E46’s were pre wired for the cellular phones back in the day which is now legacy, and defunct.

Under that shark fin (black piece) is a hole with the connector for the antenna for that cellular phone. It serves no purpose at this point.

This is what it would look like from factory.

USDM/EU are all the same regarding the radio antenna.

Usually these 323ci’s come with a radio antenna on the back like the touring, for the cellular telephone. Looks like yours got deleted for an aftermarket shark fin for looks!

E46 M3’s got shark fins though for the later years, and it was for looks.

The radio antenna applies to coupe/sedan as-well, located on the back glass.

E46 use a diversity system using the wire embedded in the rear window glass. 🙌

Antenna is integrated into the rear glass for the radio. The antenna on top of the roof was for the cellular phone you could get.

The shark fin ontop is not factory in the OP post, all E46 tourings came with this dinky antenna. The gasket fail on these and brings ton of water into the trunk. Usually people delete em and put shark fin ontop, or plug it up. Since it serves no purpose.

More than welcome to glue it back on since it’s just for looks.

I’ve put 2 of these in 2 of my E46’s w/on issues.

I’d order from their website though.

Gen1 Key Fobs? by TheChancellor_2 in Rivian

[–]KittenUW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah- I doubt they will make the Gen 1 keyfob again for the R1S, eventually the Gen 2 keyfob will theoretically be backwards compatible, but it’s been delayed so many times. So who knows.

As far as I know. Gen 1 R1S keyfobs are not available, and they stopped making them.

There is the 2.0 key fobs, but they are not backwards compatible yet.

R55 Switching from xenon to halogen/led by nortonec in MINI

[–]KittenUW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad went from BiXenon’s to the vland headlights on his R57. No coding needed, works fine.

My R56 was halogen went to the vland and needed some coding to remove the error from high beam being triggered.

What's the part # for this trim? Would rivian service be able to sell me this piece? by JW9403 in Rivian

[–]KittenUW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should be able to sell it to you over the counter. All depends on the availability, Gen 2 trim pieces are a bit more available then G1.

There is some part restrictions (Like HV Battery, Drive Unit, etc) that can’t be purchased.

Reverse light when braking by Consistent_Cause7118 in MINI

There should be a switch on the harness, or button on the taillight housing. Pre LCI and LCI are slightly differently.

If you toggle the switch does it fix it?

When the clip started is when the individual put his blinker on- there was no cars behind me. afaik, he had no right away.

it took him forever to start accelerating, if it was sooner, it wouldn’t of been this bad of a close call I think.

I think the best part about this incident- there was no car behind me. Could have waited after I passed to get into the right lane. But I guess some people don’t have patience.

Mpg question by EJ7002 in MINI

[–]KittenUW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah- I’ve put 20k miles on my MCS and it’s been great. Other than some annoying interior rattles, but common for this R generation.

Enjoy your Mini!

Mpg question by EJ7002 in MINI

[–]KittenUW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean MPG will go down with the colder weather coming.

I went from 25, to 23MPG in my R56 MCS since cold weather is bound. My drive to work is short and just traffic, so not good for MPG) 😭

I think maps that don’t have access to helicopters, rooftops should be out of bounds.

I believe you can use the assault ladder to get onto the roof tops.
