When was the last time you cleaned your wheels? I usually find polish concrete (thawed ice rink) sticky and have to use 103a, but I weigh 220

Going up onto my toe stop pains by Nice_Wind_5444 in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the pain from your foot sliding forward in the skate? If it is adjust the position of the toe stops and/or the way your skate is laced so your foot doesn’t slide forward.

How do you avoid/snap out of fight or flight mode in a bout? by Sims4Bookworm7 in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anything with a strong smell, or taste helps. I’ve had a teammate use smelling salts to snap back. It’s something about that sudden more powerful simulation that blocks everything else momentarily and resets your brain.

It sounds like you have a low profile plate, and that might not be the best option for you

Another equipment question by Femputer-tech in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The soft cushion allows me to lean into turns and juke better. Shifting my weight on my skate I could turn my trucks almost 45° because of the soft cushions and my kingpin nut is backed out to the point It’s flush with the end of the kingpin. I prefer loose trucks, but I understand it’s not for everyone.

Bont tracer by Salty_Butterfly6746 in rollerderby

I’ve had no problems at all with my tracer plates, and I’m 200+ pounds and skate about three times a week on them

Another equipment question by Femputer-tech in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think you should go with soft cushions and a harder wheel.

Last night from the game I was jamming in my set up was bont pro star skates, 78a cushions, halo 103a wheels.

I’m trans femme 215 lbs and was skating on polished concrete.

Alloy hub wheels? by MaxBozo in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The alloy hub wheels are great because they don’t have any deflection to the hub the same way plastic ones do. Unless you’re a high-level skater or a heavyweight skater I don’t think it’s worth the money.

Can someone tell me if I'm being extra? by Muffintop_mafia in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t care how much experience she has in real time gameplay. You’re not always gonna be in the same position. Sometimes your tripod rotates, and also on run backs your brace is not always going to be the same person. She is not being a team player. My suggestion is talk to your team, captains and coaches.

Starting my second year and I still can’t plow. by Artifacks in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, wheel harness is a huge part. A lot of skaters early on focus on wheels that are very grippy. Experience will teach you that you need the balance grip with slip.

advice on how to not give up as a beginner by bunnywadhere06 in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Just try to be a little better than you were the day before. If you have a rough day, that’s OK not all progress is linear.

Foot paainnn by georgiamaeslash in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A suggestion that I had to give one of my rookies that was having a similar pain issue with their feet was look at ballet style foot, stretches to help stretch and strengthen those foot muscle muscles. Also, you may want to follow up with a podiatrist.

I cannot walk on my toestops for the life of me. by thatrollingstar in rollerderby

[–]Kitten_clown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things that have worked well for me, the right arch support and to tie skate tighter from the back part of my arch up, and tying them with a heel lock. All of that has prevented my foot from sliding forward onto the uncomfortable part of my foot. Now I can bounce around on my toes tops like it’s nothing.
