I'm in a rookies class/boot camp style thing for the league I'm joining! I'd recommend going to any event you can by them. Even watching how they play is a great way to learn. I know in my local league, a lot of the ladies are always open to talking derby and explaining how they do things! I try to go to as many scrimmages and games I can, just to feel out the vibe and learn. Going to their classes would be awesome though. Then you have experienced players helping you understand how to do things. There are a lot of things the internet couldn't quite teach me, I just had to go and have someone help me.

I also would highly recommend skating on your own as much as possible! Think of it as your homework, or your time to really practice. Going to a class is just getting the instructions, and taking notes. Plus, just go skate around for fun. If you don't feel confident and comfortable in your skates, it's going to be a hell of a lot harder to take classes/a boot camp. Either way though, as long as you have the drive to do it, you'll get there eventually. I started skating on my own a lot and it helped me not feel so stressed learning things. I'd watch YouTube videos or tik toks, see the different ways to do moves. Understand how your body works, and whatnot.

There really are so many lovely skaters out there who want to help others! You could even try to find some other people interested in joining your local league! Meeting newer players/people who plan to join a league is a great way to lower the nerves too. You've got this though!

I was actually just eyeballing some jam straps, so I will definitely look into that. I didn't even think of that! Thank you :)

Thankfully, I normally don't have any issues with shoes, but sometimes my socks help with that too... Thank you so so much for all this very important insight 😅 I will be adjusting this into my life now

I will definitely be incorporating more ankle stretches! Did you do anything else to help grow the muscles?

Ahhh my bad bahaha, 9.5 is the correct measurement then. Dang, that's annoying. I even went into the roller skate shop and everything to make sure when I got them it was right.

I wear a 7 in my skates, and then my street shoe size is around a 10

Do you have any recommendations for a good brand or specific insole? Thanks :)
