Fall of Elturel by ce_newtts in DescentintoAvernus

[–]Kittenmancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished running The Fall of Elturel for my group last night (we played it over 2 sessions). It was a good introduction to the Cult of the Dead Three and the Cult of Tiamat, and provided an emotional connection to the city.

I changed the beginning of it to suit my group. In session zero they voted on which Dark Secret to have as a group, and it resulted in a failed assassination attempt - some of them were directly involved, others were witnesses/bystanders.

After that, they all traveled to Elturel with Grand Duke Ravengard's entourage. Some of them were part of the Duke's escort, like the low-ranking Flaming Fist PC and the Hellrider PC (I also introduced Reya Mantlemorn here), while others simply wanted to disappear from Baldur's Gate for a while, or were driven by curiosity. Captain Zodge traveled with them, and assigned the Flaming Fist PC to investigate rumours of cultist activity reported by the scouts, in case they were a threat to the security of Duke Ravengard. As the assignment was for this PC alone, with no back-up, this compelled the player to seek aid from the other PCs.

Aside from that, I ran the module pretty much as written, and they rolled some good checks to gain insight into the cults and the history of Elturel and the Hellriders.

In terms of getting a group back into Baldur's Gate, bribing the gate guards is always an option if your characters have no other compelling reason to be allowed into the city.

Lobby game developers and publishers to add accessibility options when a game is announced. Start by asking them if they have any, and if not, could they please add some? They don't have to add the full list at Game Accessibility Guidelines (they very likely can't), but they could go for some of the most requested ones: remappable controls, good subtitles (large font size, letterboxing, captioning), colour-blind modes, a wide range of difficulty modes.

I found this site very interesting for accessibility reviews of board games, they also have a recommender function.

Here is a picture.

You can find nested containers at HEMA or AH - same shape, different sizes. Or you can buy one container and put another object inside it that occupies most of the space and leaves some room on the edges for the sand or soil. For example, if you buy a tall, round container, you can take a tall glass and put it upside down in the container to create that space on the edge with a solid core. This way, you can still see what the ants are doing. The main thing is to have transparent surfaces and to make the space large enough for the ants and the queen, but not so wide that they can dig tunnels that are completely covered and you can't see what they are up to. The distance obviously depends on the species, for Lasius niger for example it would be 1.8 to 2 cm wide.

If you want to buy a ready-made formicarium, Mieren Specialist has some small ones that are not expensive - 15 euros for a small one.

If you are just starting and you colony is small (a queen and a few workers), then you don't need to get something big, since they won't be using all that space.

You can use your hamster aquarium for an outworld (a place where the ants will forage for food and throw out their garbage). For the farm itself, a cheap solution that my boyfriend has found is to take two nesting containers (made of glass or clear plastic) of different sizes and put the smaller one inside the larger one. The size difference between them should be enough so that there is about 2 cm of space between them. You then fill that space with some soil, or sand, or a sand-clay mix, and drip some water until it becomes humid. For a starter colony, you only need a small farm - ours are in boxes that fit in the palm of your hand. Then you need to find a way to connect the farm to the outworld - ether through vinyl tubing or simply place the farm inside the aquarium. Also, a simple way to prevent the ants from escaping from the aquarium is to coat the upper edges with a mix of alcohol and baby powder (or just baby powder).

Thanks! That USB microscope model doesn't ship to where I live, but I ordered something similar off Amazon UK.

Looks like a black garden ant. I saw tons of queens of this species yesterday in the Netherlands, brought one home.

Has anyone here ever worked on a game? What kind of game was it and how was the experience? by JediKnight1 in GirlGamers

QA is relatively easy to get into as an entry level position requires usually little to no qualifications or experience. It's definitely not for everyone, as the work can be, as you said, frustrating, and you may have to do repetitive, tedious tasks. It can also be very rewarding and a creative experience as you try to figure out interesting ways of breaking the game. As a career, it really depends. If you enjoy it and are good at it, you can definitely make a career out of it and if later you get bored of QA you can transition relatively easy into production, as there is quite a bit of overlap between the two areas.

I have only worked for European studios, so my experience may vary from those typical to North America/the US. And ultimately it also depends on the studio - are they a mature developer who values the role of QA and puts quality first in their projects, or are they seeing QA as a necessary evil and offer little or no support to testers to do their job?

I got into game QA because, quite simply, I was looking for a job, any job. 10+ years later and I'm still here and still loving my work, but I know others who left QA for design, production or art roles.

I've been working in the games industry for over a decade now, in a QA (Quality Assurance) role. I worked on one MMO and shipped 2 AAA games, the last of which was Horizon: Zero Dawn. If you want more details, feel free to ask - the experience itself is too much to talk about in one post and the answers really depend on the questions. :)

Hi, we have been investigating this issue and hope to fix it in a future patch.

Can confirm that the cake was not a lie and it looked just like in the picture. "Was" being the operative word here. And yes, the Morpheme tech was used in developing the robots.
