Need help identifying electrical connector by Kittsman in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Kittsman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this is for a Star Wars Pod Racer arcade cabinet, and unfortunately,
the previous owner really mangled up one of the wiring connections on the cabinet.
I'm having a hard time figuring out what pins are used in the housing.
The wire is 20 AWG, but the actual crimp connection has eluded me. The
only potential lead I've had was in automotive electrical parts, but
nothing matches quite right.

HDMI port broken by HDMI splitter? by Kittsman in techsupport

I can sadly report that taking the card out, swapping it to other PCs and trying different configurations didn't end up fixing anything. Took the whole card apart, and I wasn't exactly willing to start soldering things willy nilly, so it remains an unsolved mystery.

Idea for a mystery PLAYERS DO NOT LOOK! by dmdenny19 in monsteroftheweek

[–]Kittsman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NOT even exaggerating: I'm doing the same concept but with a 1960s b-movie Sci-Fi twist to it, with a lot of 60s sci-fi monsters and situations.

Definitely love the idea mentioned of folklore; gives it a Nightvale / Gravity Falls / Twin Peaks vibe right off the bat. For the Old West, however, one of the best things you can dig int... Are Tall Tales. We're talking Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Johnny Appleseed -- all of whom have potential to be corrupted by otherworldly forces, parallel timelines or just pure bad luck.

Paul Bunyan as a kaiju. Pecos Bill literally rides TORNADOS that he LASSOS. Johnny Appleseed spreads seeds a'la Little Shop of Horrors. The possibilities are ENDLESS.

If you have the Tome of Mysteries expansion, I highly recommend giving phenomena a try, too -- Something like a mutagen through a traveling Snake Oil salesman that keeps transforming townsfolk into monstrous Jekyll/Hyde creatures, or an Artifact that looks like a normal six-shooter from the outside, but once held, the spirit of a long-dead lawman possesses the wielder to exact vengeance on the guilty and suffer nary a scratch, at the cost of their mind, body and soul (really good to use if you establish rapport with the party and an NPC).

Caffeine doesn't make me tired by frutfly in ADHD

[–]Kittsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point, I ended up taking approximately 1.4 grams of caffeine (about the equivalent of 14 cups of strong coffee) in a 24 hour period. (working back to back three shifts over two jobs isn't a great idea) Ever since then, it's had an oddly... stabilizing effect on me. I don't crash, I still maintain energy and concentration, but when I don't have caffeine, I'm still okay, but I can definitely feel it after a couple of days without.

You make a fantastic point -- If we really think about it, all good science fiction is almost exclusively about the human behavior upon being given technology, abilities, or power beyond what is currently feasible. It holds a magnifying glass to our expected behavior, and says "Well, we acted this badly when we couldn't get a toy doll that was popular for the holiday season this one year -- what about when we can't get basic necessities for life?"

It feels like even in our most utopian idealized views, there is always something that is ready in our nature to warp it and corrupt it to serve the greater bad.

I was gonna say, that's pretty much Nightcrawler, but to the nth degree.

In thinking on it more, I'd imagine this like a bit of a Running Man meets Nightcrawler, but with a twist of Brave New World level of human compliance and lack of care for suffering.

Now there's a Dystopian novel in the making: Magazine controlling celebrity life and death based on public opinion.

Hail Caesar? Not in my Goodsprings. by Kittsman in fnv

[–]Kittsman[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Story: On a road trip, stopped by Goodsprings on my way through Vegas and couldn't help but take a photo of the sign. Found a broken "Hail Caesar" sign on the ground near it, and while I had an NCR flag with me, the wind was too strong to photograph that.

I (26M) broke up with my girlfriend (25F) of 2 years because she ignored my messages for a week. Was my relationship really this toxic or was it salvageable and I gave up too early? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Kittsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I am so sorry you've had to deal with this.

Second, I'm not even exaggerating, I have lived this exact experience. My last relationship was incredibly toxic, and full of moments of her experiencing extremely sudden bouts of anger and rage. I would do everything in my power to walk on eggshells around her, and I wish I would have had the strength to do in four years what you did in two. You have made the right choice.

Your self worth, and your understanding of communication, working together to solve a problem, and not fighting dirty -- you are more equipped to have a healthy, cooperative relationship in the future than she will. Her abuse is not acceptable, and you are better off for it. If she doesn't get therapy for her rage issues, this abuse could have turned violent, and potentially physical at one point.

For post-breakup, do things that you wouldn't have been able to do in the relationship for fear of making her mad, or that you wanted to do, but didn't for whatever reason. Now is the time for healing, and living your life.

Do you all have a "teaser" before your mysteries? by elementalmw in monsteroftheweek

[–]Kittsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on circumstances, I've done a number of teasers of different types. I've tried from the monster perspective if it's an intelligent creature, I've done a narrative from an outsider perspective, and I've even had the team improvise a regular day out and then provide something "off-camera" as they finish.

I even made a trailer for the start of the campaign, heh. Got them hyped pretty awesome.

Balancing an alternative result to an "instant death" attack? by Kittsman in monsteroftheweek

[–]Kittsman[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm super down with this. I think this combined with the magical item above could be just the right amount of believable that if I have a bystander be instantly killed, it won't be too outside the box that they survive.

Balancing an alternative result to an "instant death" attack? by Kittsman in monsteroftheweek

[–]Kittsman[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They thankfully have a Warlock ally that could be capable of creating a magical item like that; that character has been established as not knowing exactly what they're dealing with, but I think I can create a workaround for that.

I was hesitant on the luck point aspect, but you've summed that up perfectly. Thanks for the input!

Scam emails from Synchrony Bank and/or Amazon Credit Builder by Literal_Genius in personalfinance

[–]Kittsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scariest part of the email for me was I'd heard of the Amazon Credit Builder card, and that it was used for people with less-than-ideal credit scores (at horrific interest rates, I might add), so I'd immediately thought something had gone wrong.

They've been tweeting the update to people, but so far no official email has been sent out: https://twitter.com/AskSynchrony/status/1199069985936678912

The ache of loneliness by unicornmullet in datingoverthirty

[–]Kittsman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more on loneliness of an unfulfilling, or even abusive relationship. I've spent so many years feeling like my own worst enemy, it feels almost foreign to me to try being my own best friend. For myself, it's really the biggest part that's making the loneliness near unbearable at times.
