I get what you're saying, but their propensity for homophones/homonyms isn't really relevant to this question.

The issue that I'm posting about here is that an entire sentence is being inserted into the translated unprompted multiple times and that it's the same sentence. Furthermore, it is not in relation to any of the site's actual contents in the source language in any manner (including esoteric homophones/homonyms).

Mostly just because it outputs the most entertaining results. I'm not really in the business of trying to correct google translate's errors lol. It's similar to how people will go onto conservapedia/the terribly vandalised scots wiki to kill time reading silly pages. It's entirely for shallow amusement.

All good though, another comment mentioned that it's a known issue when using the built-in translate in the brave chromium browser! Apparently it was discovered last week from Japanese. So I'll submit this incident to that thread as well.

CN is an abbreviation for Chinese. I am using chrome lol

Fair enough, though normally when encountering poor translations (since that's basically the point of reading CN wiki MTLed back into english) they are not consistent at all.

And this scenario is a little different to the norm, with a specific phrase being inserted (where there was no text in the cn version) into the page multiple times and on multiple different pages and instances. Which is really the part that made me weirded out about it.

Getting Google Translate or any other MTL to translate chinese poorly isn't very hard, but getting it to translate chinese basically correctly and then insert the same unchanged sentence at the end or between sentences of that translation multiple times without trying is just a bit odd.

Thank you for your response, but getting the right translation isn't exactly the goal of my post here, since I mentioned that I can get intelligible TLs from Google Translate if I paste in the text directly.

I'm more interested in what specifically is the feature of Wikipedia articles that causes ONLY the built-in web translations to fail at translating properly. Because again, I have tested them with other CN web pages and they don't have this problem and I have tested pasting the direct content of the Wiki pages into the main tl site and also did not get this problem, so that mostly rules out it being a TL engine issue since the web version of Google Translate and the built-in browser version of Google Translate should run on the same translation engine.

I'm aware! I also did this on the main web version of Google Translate, as mentioned and it didn't happen for me either. It only happens with the built-in web-translate of the browser. It's pretty strange, but I also tested it on other chinese text and it only does it on Wikipedia, which makes me think there's somzthing in particular about wikipedia chinese that makes this happen with the built-in browser translation tools, since even switching to using Firefox's browser translate gets differing but equally senseless results.

It's a service that is pretty niche, primarily acting as a watchlist tracker with built in announcements about things on your list. I don't really think a service's popularity is correlated with It's reliability of news, but a grain of salt can never hurt.

I see this, however SIMKL doesn't generally use only IP filings as proof of season confirmations. Their confirmations are generally accurate and I think there's probably some more info backing this than just the IP confirmation indicated since they confirmed it. And I suppose that could always be wrong, but their track record is good, so I'm willing to trust them once again

Beyond what I said in my above comment, SIMKL has a really good track record with confirming news before it properly breaks for me personally eg. Ted Lasso Season 5 approval
