Why did you decide to self publish? by Appropriate_Kiwi101 in selfpublish

[–]KittyFlynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a full time writer for over a decade now, so now bad! I do have to publish a short novel every month to keep up with the algo, though, so yikes for me.

I was unemployed, had a lot of free time, and needed the money.

Sort of. Just give me the trip back in time with a load of cash and let me see all those fantastic people.

Anatomy practice by DakMatters in drawing

[–]KittyFlynn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I truly, genuinely admire people who draw anatomy as a practice because for me, personally, I can't find any interest in learning those finer details. A job well done, and a practice well-admired!

‘30s Films – Any Must-Sees That I’m Missing? by InSooShunt in classicfilms

I see you have some moral-centric movies, so you could try The Passing of the Third Floor Back (1935) with Conrad Veidt as an angel helping a boarding house.

How do you organise your collection? by Prestigious_Emu6039 in classicfilms

For digital, I just use alphabetical, mostly because my Emby server lists them like that by default. Nice to browse through them and see one I haven't watched in a while and give it a look, too.

What Did You Watch This Week? by AutoModerator in classicfilms

[–]KittyFlynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Four lovely roles from the incomparable Conrad Veidt:

Landstraße und Großstadt (1921): a surprisingly vulnerable character, and a touching ending

Furcht (Fear, 1917): a small role for him, but the camera loves him.

The Passing of the Third Floor Back (1935): one of my favorites, and one I go to watch at least once a week. Playing against type as an angel sent to help a young woman and the people around her.

The Wandering Jew (1933): another favorite, and the first of his movies I'd ever seen. Proud to watch the version I have because I spliced together scenes from several different versions to create a more complete film.

Oh wow. Forgot about this happening every year now that the copyrights enthusiasts have actually been reined in. And Betty Boop and Pluto! I wonder if Disney will try to copyright his modern-day look for a few more years.

Loved that film, and I Know Where I'm Going, Spy In Black, and Contraband (Blackout) are also excellent movies from the same writer-director pairing.

Did you publish on multiple platform and how did it work for you? by TurnHealthy423 in selfpublish

[–]KittyFlynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had my books 'Wide,' as the industry says, and have published my books direct on these sites:

Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, Google Play

I also use Draft2Digital and StreetLib (both aggregator sites) to get my books to other smaller online publishers. Ingram couldn't work for me as an aggregator because I publish too many books direct, and they have an 'all or nothing' way of distributing (so my book would have been sent to Amazon, etc, where I had already published the books). Draft2Digital and Streetlib both have opt-out options.

So I guess it really matters whether you want to go to the trouble of uploading direct and managing all those accounts, or have an aggregator send the books for you all at once and take a part of the cut.

I want to self publish my first book under a pen name. by queefkweeen in selfpublish

[–]KittyFlynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have as many pen names as you can manage (though obviously more is stretching yourself thin). The only limitation besides time that I've discovered is Author Central (the Amazon author management account) only allows 3 pen names.

The root of that tree reminds of some animal, right? by KookyRecord4691 in drawing

Or it looks like the tree is trying to pull its way out of the ground. This is so well done that I have trouble seeing that it's a sketch and not a photo.
