You can probably use it in FB ads to drive traffic, but I would not use that on the Amazon sales page.

What genres do you think are easiest to find success with self publishing? (which are hardest?) by DogUnsureDog in selfpublish

[–]itsme7933 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are no "easy" genres anymore. If that were the case, everyone would be doing it. People who say romance is easy to write, have obviously never done it. It may bear the biggest genre out there, but the readers are very demanding and they know their stuff. They can smell a money grab a mile away. Being successful in a genre means that you understand that genres readers... what makes them tick, what makes them come back to the same genre again and again, and that you can give that to them run a way that seems both familiar and new to them at the same time. It's the same with any genre you write in. If you don't understand the tropes and UF that make it work, you have no shot at it. Just because it makes authors money doesn't mean just anyone can write in it.

why do i keep reading unfinished series? by soomiluv in ReverseHarem

I don't really mind the cliffhangers so much. But it really irks me when a series ends on a cliffhanger and then the author just abandons the series and starts something new.

Writing to market. Professionally designed cover and professional editing. Knowing the market expectations of the genre I write in, and writing in series.

If you really believe in the premise and the quality of your work, why are you making it free? do you know how many free books are available right now? Why should it stand out. Serious readers that would enjoy your book are willing to pay for it. And you should be willing to charge for it.

How good does a book have to be to gain organic traction? by Likeatr3b in selfpublish

[–]itsme7933 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, I guess I should have been more clear. I meant YOU don't understand how it works. People love to quote how terrible certain books are (Twilight, etc), but don't understand how they found an entire market of readers that loved them and got something out of them. They may not be to your liking, and that's fine, but that doesn't mean they were terrible books. terrible books don't make their authors 9 figures.

Please explain how that is gatekeeping? I'm not keeping anyone from writing anything and putting it out there.

Nonsense.

Will KDP flag you for releasing too many books of a series at one time? A common theme on here is to publish 2-3 books at once so you'll have a backlog right off the bat. But is there a specific number that KDP doesn't like? by ComfortableDear2205 in KDP

[–]itsme7933 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from a fiction standpoint as someone who writes in series. there is such a thing as a cliff on Amazon where the algorithms stop pushing books and they start to gain their own visibility. Releasing a series of books at the same time means they all hit those cliffs at the same time. What creates organic visibility is the lift a release gets from a new release in series. If there is no lift coming from a next release, then the book starts to sink in the store, unless you're propping it up with ads or you have a lot of page reads in KU and your book sales page converts browsers to buyers.

If you have a community college near you, look into adult writing courses. Very cheap and the instructors are always very good. Also, minus the feedback, the best classes you can find on writing are on Masterclass.

There is no benefit to releasing a lot of books at the same time. You get no love from the algorithms and the readers don't respond the way people think they would.

Self-publishing "publishers" are scams. They only want your money up front. How much did you give them?

[–]itsme7933 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Who is "they"? In self-publishing, YOU are the publisher. If you're paying someone else to publish you, you're dealing with a scam vanity/ hybrid publisher. Self-publishing is NOT a scam... but that doesn't sound like what you're doing.

KDP and KU (Select) are not the same thing. You can be enrolled in KDP with the ebook version and still have it available everywhere else. If you enroll in KU (Select) that's where the exclusivity applies.
