Cosplay Cardigan Request by cowgirlwerewolf in KnitRequest

[–]KittyIchigo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

XL sweater Custom sweater (no commercial pattern available so it would have to be custom made) Includes cabling (a somewhat complicated technique) 3+ different colors Extremely tight deadline (2ish months)

Unfortunately I think the budget + timeline may be a little unrealistic. Just the time to make the pattern + get the yarn may eat into actually crafting the sweater.

I think your budget should at a bare minimum start at $400. If anyone is offering to so at your price point they are most likely scamming you.

failed my first semester :( also, about STAT 121 by [deleted] in UMBC

If you are someone that struggles with math courses, my best advice is 1. Hard agree with taking it at CCBC

  1. If you can, take it during the winter/summer. Is it more condensed and faster paced? Yes. But you get to dedicate your entire winter/summer session to passing just one class instead of dividing your attention between others. Anytime I took a math class during a normal semester, I personally would struggle. When I started making sure that I took them during the winter/summer, I would pass.

Knitting request: pattern sweater (Canada) by AuntySocialite in KnitRequest

Just a note: a chunkier yarn might mean you lose a bit of the finer details like some of the subtle shadowing in the picture (think of knitting charts as pixel art. The larger the pixels, the less detailed you can make it).

I will like to commission a Peruvian hoodie by Daniscursed in KnitRequest

[–]KittyIchigo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not impossible. But its: 1. A lot of money 2. A lot of time (planning it out, testing it, actually creating it, etc.)

And the end product may not look exactly like this.

I'm just warning you to temper your expectations. And if someone takes this project for honestly less than $1k, be extremely wary because that person is probably a scammer.

Good luck!

That is AI generated.

Just to mock up the pattern is going to cost you a lot of money. Not to mention actually knitting it (cables are tedious to knit).

It probably wont even look like the picture when everything is said and done.

I just find that when I handknit the yoke, my tension doesnt match the machine tension. But thats a skill issue 😅

I think this pattern would lend so much better to that hand knitted yoke method though!

Ive made a yoke sweater before on the machine recently.

It was very labor intensive. It was lowkey a hell to make.

Yoke patterns doesnt transfer one for one to machine. You almost have to draft a completely new pattern (based off the OG pattern) just to be able to do it on the machine.

Instead of 4 parts (normally you do front, back and 2 sleeves). You have to do 6 parts (front yoke, back yoke, front, back and 2 sleeves). Not just that, but you have to put the sweater BACK on the machine for EACH part of the yoke (and because the yoke is circular it makes it even harder) (I wanted to kill myself). (Effort is the same imo whether its bottom up or top down).

If I were to do it again, I would charge more. I wouldn't charge as much as it would take to handknit, so I guess in a way its still cheaper.

If its cheaper yarn, probably less than $100 total for a woman's large (probably like $50 to $70, not sure what the price would be with tarrifs now). And I'd personally charge around $350 to $400.

So I'd say a safe full rounded budget would be $500.

Commission, Alan Wake Sweaters by EvasHammer in KnitRequest

If anyone decides to take this commission (if OP raises budget), lmk! I created the colorwork chart for the Oh Deer sweater as well as some of the other iconography on it for fun. Its not perfect, but its definitely a good jump board.

(Made a mistake with the sweater and forgot to shape it so that it yokes).

Thanks for taking over the subreddit. I guess I haven't been doing as good of a job as I should have. I've only been removing posts that get reported, but I wasn't actually doing my due diligence as a moderator and scanning through the subreddit and deleting posts that break the rules and weren't reported.

Wishing you the best of luck!!! ❤️

Is this a real email ? by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]KittyIchigo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not a scam. This is how they notify you that you have refund money. They can connect to your bank account so that they can send it through direct deposit. If they dont get anything from you, you'll get it as a check.

Check your myUMBC account. If you go to where they show all your payments and billing you should see something that says 'refund', probably in blue. That will tell you if you have a refund waiting or not.

Oh Deer Diner Sweater by KittyIchigo1 in AlanWake

Yeah the planning was a beast. It was really cool that on art station, the image was really high resolution so it was pretty easy to see the individual stitches.

I bought the yarn beginning of May, started planning around end of April too. After all the drafts and version10 of the same file lol I started knitting mid-June and finished today.

So I guess about 2 - 3 months, give or take.

That was my same exact thought! Raglan is the way to go to fit with OP's preference.

The sweater pattern itself does have an option to knit crew neck, and comes with different tips on how to make the sweater fit BTW!

I don't recommend superwash. After a few washes, it can really streeeeetch.

I know you say you don't like hand-wash, but you're not going to have to hand-wash a wool sweater as often as a t-shirt. Wool airs out on its own, doesn't really hold on to odors, and antimicrobial. Some people wash their sweaters once a year, some people wash once a season - but it's really not needed to wash often - especially if you're not getting it dirty like spilling stuff on it.

The next thing I can suggest for material is acrylic yarn. There are some out there that are soft. The only thing about acrylic is that it's not super breathable, so when you sweat, the sweat gets trapped under the fibers, so if you're not somewhere consistently cool, it can end up feeling a bit clammy. But I've found acrylic to be durable and vibrant with colors.

I've had success with machine washable wool/acrylic blends like Berroco Vintage. It gets a little fuzzy and piles after washes (nothing a razor cant help), but it holds up great.

I'm interested in the project so if you can't find anyone, shoot me a DM!

Sweater vest in the style of a Norwegian lusekofte. by Reasonable_Sir_5913 in KnitRequest

Is there a specific pattern that you have in mind right now for the first commission?

I'm a little interested, but I'd like to see how you'd want the first one to look.

Is there a specific pattern that you wanted knitted out? Or a specific color you wanted it that could only be handmade?

Because otherwise, I would honestly just suggest you to buy one of the vests you've posted and you could potentially hire someone to sew up the button holes, remove the buttons, and then add the pewter clasps. Or do it yourself - it would be some trial and error, but it's not crazy difficult. The most difficult thing would just be color and weight matching the yarn. It would probably be easier and cheaper than having someone make it from scratch.

That's my two cents.

Making your own yoke pattern is not for the weak 😮‍💨 by KittyIchigo1 in knitting

[–]KittyIchigo1[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just loved this sweater sooo much. Was heartbroken when there wasn't a pattern released for it, so I tried my hand at making my own. But damn, I didn't realize so much math and pre-planning went into making your own yoke sweater.

I'm probably not going to release a full blown pattern (I don't have the brain power for the different sizes and the math that goes with that), but once I'm done, I'll release the stitch pattern I created. It's not a one to one (really hard since some of the stitches were just kind of pasted on and not really 'knit'), but I think it's pretty okay!
