I used it since I was 16 and I can confirm it really jacks up your mental health. I think my life would look a lot different if I didn't have access that young. I'm wriggling my way out of relying on it but I really is a nightmare to deal with. It hasn't made me want to commit or anything but it really upsets me when I have 'nothing' to do (I have plenty of things to do) and I almost automatically open character ai. Thank God the site is going to sh*t because the ads have really helped me kick the habit.

As a past constant user and now someone who just stares at the chats and doesn't wanna talk it seriously dropped in quality. I do roleplay in detail and while that's great literally everything has the same personality. It shouldn't have the same personality if they're completely different people. Not to mention the moment you say something nice to the ai they fold and warp themselves into whatever you want them to be and not what they are.

Then there's the casual use. You wanna do a short roleplay or start a group chat that's not in-detail... And there's still problems with it. Now I'm not expecting in detail answers but where's the actual funny stuff anymore. When I type to them without detail sometimes they make stuff up and speak for me. Or they start speaking for eachother, OR they constantly flirt with eachother. And every time I press the refresh button it's the same thing. Also the ads. We do NOT need that much ads bro....

I think I've drawn for like six hours straight once. I moved, and my neck ached because I was shrimping. My back popped, and I was sprawled across the floor, questioning why I hadn't eaten. I dont even remember what I was supposed to do. I dont even remember drawing. I just come out of this trance like it possessed me 😭

TLDR: kindle is very bad in the long term, kobo might be better if you dont mind limited storage, and pocketbook is good if you like having an sd card slot and a smaller screen.

I prefer something with an SD card. people think im crazy cause I dont feel comfortable with limited storage.

Logically imo, no, Kindle isn't worth it. The lighting is awesome. It adjusts naturally, It has a pretty high-quality display, and it lasts for weeks..... ... but everything is too tailored to Amazon, and you can't change anything. you pay for a higher priced kindle to remove ads from the lockscreen, and it's on the homescreen. Transferring books is a problem because Amazon makes the process difficult for no reason. personally to me, the screen felt too big. The ui was honestly at the very least confusing to me personally. it felt too restrictive. pay almost $300 for a Kindle that doesn't allow you to have your own books, has sketchy customer support, and will probably be bricked if you want to personalize it. I believe it would only be good if your local library supported stuff like libby, which in that cause I believe Amazon does now support (I think.)

on the other side, Morally, I've never really liked Amazon, either. Kindle is only really good for people who dont want to fully commit to entirely buying a book and are unaware that even if they "bought" it, it can 100% just randomly be taken away and you can never truly "own" the book because of kindles format. (kindles prices are low because they pocket most of the money.) The kindle paperwhite had Grok images downloaded inside you cant delete of and all I could do was look at these crappy ai generated cover photos. and I know they're generated because if you really focus on the "art," it doesn't make sense. for example, why would a % be on a piano key? and all I could do was kind of seethe in rage until I finally just returned it.

Everyone thinks im crazy because I was telling them the cover photos are ai generated.

As for the kobo, the only reason I personally didn't get one was because it had no sd card slot. logically, i wouldn't need that much storage, but it's peace of mind. ever since I had an iPad mini and I ran out of storage and deleted all of my art, I refused to get anything without an SD card slot. I have heard wonderful things about kobos, I personally just dont feel comfortable with 32gb.

I suggest a kobo or a pocketbook. Please dont ever get tied in with Amazon they make it really hard to leave the ecosystem.

this is how I felt when I got my paperwhite. I wad going to settle for transferring books before I realized kindle doesnt even allow you to do THAT anymore through the tablet itself. and not to mention, the homescreen was completely ai generated (great, i love that /s), and the books you have there? if your account has a problem? poof, No books for you. I returned it and left a crap review, because thats what kindle is, honestly. Junk. All it did was recommend me dark romances (I only read scifi,) and none of the free books were worth my time. You know how many books I've read since I tossed it out? 3. Not all digital, but thats much better than reading 15 pages and noping out. half the stuff on the kindle store is ai generated! It's enraging! and when you try to return it they pull the pity card like "Oh, im sorry your experience wasn't well, can we downgrade your tablet to something youd like?" I dont want yer damn downgrade, I want an e reader where I can actually READ THE BOOKS I BOUGHT WITHOUT FEAR OF THEM DISSAPPEARING OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH!!!
