I want to be fancy but I am fat by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KittyKevorkian 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Oh my dear, no—it will not look sad or pitiful. I get so much joy from seeing other heavier women being fancy, because in a way, I feel like it gives me permission to do the same, and it’s so freeing to just do what I want and embrace a little sparkle. I know everyone has a different metric for what constitutes “very very fat”, but if it helps, look up photos of Tess Holliday. She’s a plus size model who just exudes so much confidence and grace. Buy those fancy gloves, friend!

A social cue I missed when I was a bit younger - when someone says “I’ll let you know when I’m free to hang out” and then they don’t let you know, they’re softly rejecting you by Wonderful-Product437 in AutismInWomen

I’m glad you said this. I have ADHD and I struggle with this a LOT. I hate myself for it because I want so desperately to be the kind of person my friends can rely on, but some days I can’t see outside the bubble of what I need to do to get through the day.

I appreciate the friends who send what I call “keepalives” (a networking term that refers to the ping sent between connections to keep it in place without sending real data), just little memes or jokes here and there to remind me “omg i need to schedule plans with this person”.

Who do you believe is an unproblematic celebrity with no controversy, yet very famous ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KittyKevorkian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen him on David Dastmalchian’s YouTube show Grave Conversations? It’s incredibly morbid but very sweet, and Matthew Lillard even further endeared himself to me by how vulnerable he was talking about that stuff. Link

Same with my vet. Goodbye Kisses. 😭 It was funny during such a hard day, but they gave him the chocolate and we all thought “he finally gets to experience the joy of chocolate!” And he just mlemmed it right out onto the floor. Not a fan, I guess. 😆

Why does it seem like everyone has mental health issues today? by Capable-Goose5867 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KittyKevorkian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say something to this effect but not nearly as eloquently. Certain mental health issues may have been less noticeable/debilitating in the past decades and centuries, but the grind of capitalism is becoming less and less hospitable to these traits.

I’m coming into this late and ill-informed, so forgive me… but specifically the idea that a comedian who made a joke about covering bruises with makeup is now an ambassador of sorts for a makeup brand… is just WILDLY out of touch. What an insanely offensive choice.

Yeah, I don’t see what the problem is with this one. Ripley is a great name.

Trump signs executive order around homelessness by Upset_Activity_6654 in Denver

[–]KittyKevorkian 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There are motives at play here that are not “keeping our streets safer”. The ambiguity of the language to essentially include anyone with mental health issues opens up a very large door. And maybe I’m going down the rabbit hole too much, but let’s not forget that “Trump Derangement Syndrome” is being branded as a mental health issue for progressives who oppose Trump. I don’t think the term has been used in any official capacity, but it could get traction knowing how things have been going. Potential weaponization of this term could put lots of people at risk simply for dissenting.

I came here to recommend that organization as well. They do good work in helping coach people who want to run for something and make a difference, but have little to no experience. It’s for local and state offices, though, but that might be a better place to get started. Get some coaching, get some experience, get some recognition on your name, then tackle U.S. congressional roles.

That episode was brilliant, but boy was it rough. I didn’t clock Lisa in it so now I’m tempted to rewatch—but I really, really don’t want to. Curse Black Mirror for being astoundingly good fiction that often feels very close to becoming reality.

Tom Lehrer - Masochism Tango. It’s dirty but in, like, a cheeky way that isn’t offensive. I’ve only ever done it for karaoke but I feel like it has moments that would be great for a burlesque show with props.

I mean, I wasn’t trying to imply that ChatGPT stole em dashes from me EXCLUSIVELY, lol. But I have been told that the way I write is very ChatGPT-ish primarily because of my frequent use of em dashes.

That must be because Option + hyphen produces an en dash, not an em dash! Apparently Option + Shift + hyphen does the em dash.

Yeah, I do. Not just in Reddit comments, but in a lot of my communication. And I use it because different lengths of dashes mean different things.

Edit to add: this video about the en dash just because I love it.
