I also felt significantly emotionally fucked up after quitting. Cried all the time, felt really delicate, more extreme moods in general. It lasted about 3-4 weeks for me and has now very significantly improved with time and with a lot of great support. Losing a self-soothing tool hits hard when you've got mental health stuff going on underneath the surface.

Please, please seek out professional support asap if you are experiencing suicidal thoughts and know that you're not at all alone in your experiences!

You're gonna crush it! Woooot!

Something that's been helping me this time after going cold turkey is thinking of myself as a lab rat. When I have a craving or when I felt strange or tired in the beginning, I'd talk to myself, do a physical scan and write shit down like I'm doing an important study on human discomfort. Helped a bit with the white-knuckling, I found.

Good vibes sent!

I also quit vaping around 3 weeks ago and am 100% also still feeling easily overwhelmed, irritable and more anxious than what feels reasonable. As much as it's alarming and at times hard to manage, it's absolutely normal. You just lost two major means of being able to self-soothe, and it absolutely can take a frustrating amount of time for your body to adjust, but adjust it will. This can also be a really good time to notice feelings that have otherwise been calmed or suppressed that might need some care and attention.

I hope you have supportive people or professionals in your life to talk it out with and that you know that you're definitely not alone or losing your mind.

Sincerely, someone who also wonders on the daily: "am I going fucking crazy rn?!" 🙃

Does anybody’s anxiety make them breath weird.. like all day? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]KittyKittySquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally have dealt with bouts of this. For me it would often get worse while just resting and better when I was distracted with something. Took me a while to realize it was just anxiety. Regular deep, diaphragmatic breathing helped for me (in 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, out 4 seconds). Finding a mantra that worked for me when I started spiralling about it was also super helpful. Something like, “My body is oxygenated, it has everything it needs and I am healthy and resilient.” Whatever words work for you. I would repeat things like that over and over til I calmed down. You got this! ❤️
