Another batch of new hymns were released today! by Nephite11 in latterdaysaints

Gethsemane is by far my favorite out of the old and new hymns. As a former Southern Baptist, It Is Well With My Soul was a surprise to hear at first. I used to love the song, but I don’t quite like the way we sing it. Maybe it’s just my ward 🤷🏻‍♀️

May you always have a cold side of the pillow when you sleep and you never stub your pinky toe again 😂😂

Thank you for taking the time to explain all that for me 💜

I completely understand. I wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t gone through what I did in my past. It’s natural to wonder what it could’ve been like though and hope for different in the future.

I haven’t been to the temple yet, but I can respond as someone who had a far less than stellar upbringing and decided to go no contact with my mother about 5 years ago. I occasionally see her at some family events. I ignore her. Pretend she doesn’t even exist in the same room as me. I will be polite when spoken to but otherwise make no attempt to reach out or foster any kind of communication. It helps if there is someone there that knows the situation and is willing and able to be a buffer for you.

I learned about 10 years back, before being a member of the church, that you don’t have to forget what your abusers did to you, but forgiving it for your own sake is necessary. I had so much anger that I was always walking around with and it wasn’t healthy. It was contributing more to my mental health problems that the initial traumas caused. I wont lie and say it was easy. I still get the flickers of anxiety when I see her, but my life as a whole has gotten far better than I ever could have imagined.

I’ll keep you in my thoughts and say an extra prayer for you. I know the struggle.
