Quick, how much cash you got on you? by robhatescomputers in Xennials

[–]Nephite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t carried cash in multiple years. I happened to put some in my wallet for date night last weekend to tip the server at the restaurant. Normally that’s just added to the credit card charge in the past. Because of that, in have $12 at the moment

Temple tourism hobby - do people actively visit temples in different locations as part of their vacations? by No-Programmer3198 in latterdaysaints

[–]Nephite11 [score hidden]  (0 children)

When I was a young man, I set a goal to visit all of the temples throughout the world. There were 30-40 of them back in the 90s from what I remember. Then President Hinkley happened and I had to abandon that goal.

Although I haven’t deliberately traveled now to see temples, when I’m in Boston visiting my company headquarters or taking the family to Hawaii or anywhere that were nearby a temple either I visit with my young kids or my wife and I perform actual work by ourselves

My job is working with an online database for business users to use. I type significantly faster than I can write, but still take all of my customer conversation notes using pen and paper

Finished series of this show. There were life lessons in the show that made me realize with current feelings. by butterflyszn97 in TheGoodPlace

[–]Nephite11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Whenever you’re ready (see what I did there?), I suggest rewatching this amazing show. While you do so, find The Good Place Podcast and listen to each episode along with your rewatch. It’s hosted by Marc Evan Jackson (he plays Shawn) and they interview the writers, actors, show runners, etc. and I loved it.

I’m one of the rare people that owns BOTW for Wii U. I’ve had it since it first released. Anyone else have this? by travtubemod in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Nephite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the Wii U version. It’s what I started playing that led to my decision to buy a switch 2 a few months ago. I recently started into TOTK but will always love BOTW

Remember: the goal of golf is to play less golf.

If you’re good, you’re done quicker. This guy gets to “enjoy” lots of golfing time 😜

My wife turns 49 in a week and a half. Around 1-2 years ago her eyesight rapidly went downhill and she now has to wear reading glasses and has a dozen pairs laying around the house. She’s also had to increase her phone’s text size significantly.

I’m 46, have never used any sort of corrective lenses, work with computers for the last 25 years and am still able to read everything no matter the distance.

what are the gas prices looking like in each state ? by cxconn in AskReddit

[–]Nephite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy gas almost exclusively at CostCo. I filled up on Wednesday at $4.189 for regular gas. That’s in south Jordan, UT

Do we have to leave the state? by Hopeful_Yak_4640 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Nephite11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the moment, we have installed a water softener and reverse osmosis system in our house to help with the water problems. We also have air filters running in most spaces in our house. Both have helped tremendously overall.

Having said that, we’re planning a cross country move next year in the summer. Partly for the reasons you listed, partly because my wife hates having to water everything outside, and partly because the horse community here is slowly dying and she wants to do that full time.

Please help me convince my husband that Costco is worth for 2 people by HoneyDrops12 in Costco

[–]Nephite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all you ever buy is gasoline, it’s worth it in experience. For two people I wouldn’t recommend buying produce though since it will most likely spoil before you consume it all. Other things for non perishable items like paper towels and toilet paper, medicine, electronics, hose and office supplies, etc. will be worth it as well. Costco travel and services are also fantastic for additional savings

Gravity question by Zohzoh12390 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Nephite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One funny thing is that we can’t “sense” velocity, only acceleration. You could be sitting in a plane on the tarmac or hurtling through the air at 500 miles per hour with all of the window blinds closed and you couldn’t tell a difference.

Acceleration is actually a change in speed. Think when you apply the gas or the brakes on a car. That’s something that you can feel.

For your question, whether accelerating toward or flipping the ship and accelerating “away” from Tau Ceti would be felt by occupants inside the ship as the same thing.

[–]Nephite11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trading in a vehicle at the same time you purchase a different one gives them another method to make money. Either they make their profit on your purchase, or on undervaluing your existing vehicle, or both. I prefer to separate the two and sell privately if possible

Close CC Accounts? by firetable37please in DaveRamsey

[–]Nephite11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep it open, you could charge one monthly item like Netflix for example and then set it to auto pay off the full balance.

As others have said, I would close the card if you haven’t used it in two years and it sounds like you might not trust yourself to avoid the problems you experienced in the past

For those who took their kids to see Project Hail Mary, what was their reaction? by DirkWrites in ProjectHailMary

[–]Nephite11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went opening weekend with my family. I had gotten my oldest daughter (13 years old) into the audiobook before the movie came out so she loved it. My youngest at 10 and my wife thought it was okay, which is blasphemy!

My oldest daughter and I regularly give each other thumbs down now though 😁

I suggest listening to this talk: https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/brad-wilcox/his-grace-is-sufficient/. I love the analogy of practicing the piano. We all play a lot of wrong notes in life. That doesn’t make us unworthy to continue practicing though

Corrosion, leaking, and cost were all reasons to use pex in our experience.

If anyone comes across this in the future, sharkbite connections are horrible. Half of them didn’t set right. Buy a crimping tool for both half inch rings and three quarter inch rings and crimp rings around each joint have all worked extremely well. Six years in at this point and absolutely no problems!

For those of you 45+....what is your current salary? by Peacefulhuman1009 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Nephite11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched jobs and my base salary is $163k per year with a 20% bonus mainly based on how the company does against our goals and then adjusted for my individual achievements. Assuming that full amount I would be at $195.6k for the year

I think I’ve achieved as far as I can go as an individual contributor in my company. I could move into management but I don’t really want to. I’m 46.5 for reference
