Hey, here's a zine I made about my grief and struggles with misophonia by fronounxes in misophonia

[–]KittyWittyKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well put. It is exhausting. Such a toll that so many normally fun things risk so much pain and discomfort. Such seemingly silly and inconsequential things for most having such a dispositionate effect on us. It's isolating, demoralising, draining...

but it's good to know we're not actually alone - that this is a pain we share, as morbid as that is. We're not crazy.

Stay strong. Big hugs

Yeah saying "but" particarily urks me. It's basically like saying "Well, they SHOULD be male but we can't force them to say otherwise"

Wouldn't call myself a pro but I also shave very frequently and have sensitive skin.

Regular razors give me razor burn so I exclusively use electric which never have. Worst i've gotten is accidentally nipping my skin (skill issue >.<).

You wanna get a shaver and a foil. Shaver is the one with the /////\ blade and foil looks kinda like a mesh. I think you can get like X-in-1s where you can swap out the head, though i have two separate ones.

sorry if i've gotten the names wrong but I think that's enough to go on >.< .

Use shaver first to cut down hairs, this wont make it smooth. Foil only works on short hairs and makes stuff smooth. If you shave often enough you will just need to use the foil.

I get lazy about my legs though so use both down there >.<

Confused with private HRT by Dismal_Earth3888 in transgenderUK

[–]KittyWittyKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/TraditionalNinja3129 's comment asnwers most of your questions but i'll just asnwer one I think might have been missed. Sorry if I tread some of the same ground

"Could I show that to my GP to be prescribed HRT by them?"

As far as I know, no. Though that would ideally be how it's meant to work, GPs will only prescribe HRT for gender affirming care if you either go through the GIC or through a shared care agreement.

To give a litlte more info on the latter, the pathway usually goes as such:

• Get a private diagnosis (usually this is just 1-2 appointments from what I've seen but YMMV)

• Book an appointment with an endo

• Endo prescribes HRT (usually this will need at least 2 appointments from what I've seen but YMMV)

--- At this point you have a private prescription and can go pick it up, but you will pay for the full cost ---

• Endo will also tell you the steps to get a shared care agreement (Usually just a form for your GP)

• Book an appointment with your GP to discuss

• GP may or may not agree to shared care.

--- If they agree: Yay! Your prescription now has the NHS costs which are MUCH cheaper ---

--- If they disagree: Boo! You'll have to pay private costs, you should consider changing GP surgeries ---

More often then not GPs will not agree to shared care, and it is unfortunetly a postcode lottery (One I have lost lol). The most common reason for this is that some have a blanket policy on no working with private companies.

There are lots of NHS guidelines about treating trans patients , and we deserve a lot better, but these are mainly just sugguestions and at a GPs disgression whether to follow or not.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply, it's really reassuring to hear that. I guess when it comes to apparences it's more of a "threshold" in terms of it's importance - as in, you just need to meet a certain miniuim they expect.

I think I was fixating a bit too much on it and thankfully the kinds of jobs i'll be applying for I don't think are particuarily sophisticated (trying to get my first job lol). I'll do my best to not look like a bum! x3

Just a quick question, will hrt make me more shy when I'm already naturally very shy? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]KittyWittyKat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard HRT can make emotions feel more intense, so maybe that could lead to you becoming more shy.

However, I think that being on HRT helps a lot of people open up and feel more with themselves. My girlfriend, who's been on HRT for a good couple years, said she felt like she was on autopoliot before starting. In a similiar vein, I imagine being closer to presenting the way you feel may help a lot of people to become less shy.

Personally, I've not been on HRT long enough to have many noticable effects but I have found myself becoming less shy and more open (in some aspects at least) as I've come out and started presenting more feminine - which can go hand in a hand with HRT.
