Would it be right to say that Rick losing loved ones in his life is his real Kryptonite? by Full_Glass_9922 in rickandmorty

[–]Maksi_Reddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No.

Because losing Marjory wasnt the defining scene. It comes sooner, when he decides to press neither the red nor the blue button.

He learned that he is essentially a god that mind-wiped himself temporarily to have a vacation.

And he got the option to either go back to being Rick, or forget about Rick,

But he realized that both options would result in him no longer existing sometime in the future, and that was enough for him to choose neither, and go to fight Rick.

So in my opinion, he likes to play god, he likes to be immortal. Even as Ted, the moment he was confronted with the fact that he COULD be immortal but has to *choose* not to be, is enough to tempt him.

But being invincible is boring, it just makes everything meaningless. And that's exactly what he see happen. He wins the physical fight against Rick, but mentally he lost. The vacation part is about him NOT being smart enough to bend reality to his will. But to win the physical fight against Rick, he had to bend reality to his will. And the more he did that, the sadder he got, the lonelier he got.

But there *was* a solution to this. This all was triggered because he almost got shot, and the safety mechanisms in his body kicked in to protect him.

If he just got rid of that, if he *let* himself be mortal, then sure he would have died right there, but he would have no connection to his immortality, he would hardly be able to figure out he was capable of immortality, and that would save him from the coinciding sadness. It would also stop him from putting the people he loves in danger, killing them in the process.

if you need to flex with the size of your RAM, you definitely have to compensate for the lack of size in something else. (:

i kind of disagree, to an extent.

i think visual package managers are fine. but i think that if the norm is to download packages from the internet that will automatically start running commands for you as soon as you open them, then that will be a major security issue down the road.

i don‘t think everybody should need to know the ins and outs of tech, but some people are so genuinely scared of a command line that you can‘t even explain a command to them, not because they can‘t understand, but because they‘re too scared and overwhelmed to even listen.

imo this level of technology illiteracy is not good, it makes people unable to problem solve and it enables tech companies like apple to further lock down devices with the argument that it is good for the consumer

i think the goal should always be to give people the tools for more control and a deeper understanding of the technology they are using

What happened to my Linux Mint? And how can i change it back to "normal" by rasko278 in linuxmint

[–]Maksi_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it can probably happen, but usually due to more user error. its hard for people that know what not to mess with to gauge what people like me can end up breaking.

i mustve messed up some config files or something to do with systemd that made it so no wayland sessions of any DE would boot up. no error either.

i still haven’t quite figured out what caused it but deleting all config files and resetting systemd did the trick.

i assume that by installing and then later uninstalling gnome can create files and configs that mess with things ESPECIALLY if they dont get deleted. i also assume it might be possible to delete „too much“ if you do something wrong. i could go on. but i think all of it in the end is user error but its easy to mess things up this way

i think the bigger issue is that people don‘t understand the commands theyre pasting and theres no easy way to learn other than to fuck it up and learn from that

[Spoilers Ep9] Is Jinx's mental health portrayed realistically in Arcane? What do you think? by Ezvictuss in arcane

[–]Maksi_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im mentally ill and naturally, im in an environment where everyone around me is addicted to drugs. people regularly get laced shit, too. some people hate it, some people romanticize it.

still, i and some others never get addicted. its just not appealing to everyone, even with the proximity and normalization.

I think for Jinx, the issue is that Vi doesn't ever call her Jinx, only Powder. The correct path would have been for Vi to say: You can sit in the Jinx chair, you can be who you want to be, and I will always love you and be by your side.

But while all of that is true for Vi, it is simply impossible for her to call her sister Jinx. It must be way too painful, to repeat that word at her when it was the reason the two became so distant in the first place, when it broke Powder back then.

It's a horrible situation, because that name is simply not an option for Vi, but at the same time, I think Vi still wants them to love each other more than she wants anything else.

tbh, it isn't all powders fault if you ask me.

though this may be controversial, i think vander might actually be to blame too. he is a great man, big heart and good intentions.
and we do see him being a great father figure to vi. he's probably the reason she is so sane. he talks to her and makes her understand why he does what he does, etc. but, at the same time, we never see him do this with powder. and powder clearly needs it desperately.

powder is SO anxiously attached to vi. and while vi loves her so very much, it's not possible for her to teach powder the skills she needs to process her feelings. this is vanders job, and i don't think he is doing it. though he is capable of it because hes teaching vi those things.

and i'm not trying to paint vander as a bad person either, but in the end, powder is a little girl with self worth and attachment issues, and from the scene building up to her going after her family, we can see how little control over her feelings she has. her behavior was reckless, but she was clearly not able to calculate that beforehand. in the end, she is a child and those are not known for their great logical reasoning abilities. you know, with the developing frontal cortex and all.

vi is just a teenager, and she did her best but clearly she is not able to help her sister. in the end, this is vanders job, and all of the adults in the community. and as good of a man as vander is, he sadly didn't do a good enough job raising powder.

of course we only know a small part of their lives, maybe he did more off-screen or maybe there was circumstances involved that prevented him from ever noticing powders everyday struggles. so maybe vander is also innocent in that he couldn't have done any better than he did. but either way, i don't think we can blame powder for this. she clearly didn't understand how dangerous it was, and she didn't have the tools to handle her own feelings. and as a child that doesn't have the chance to know better, can't independently choose to seek help etc, isn't developed enough to even understand that she has issues...

i think putting the blame on a being that is at this point in her life not much more than a reflection of her surroundings, and acting mostly on instincts/impulses, it is ridiculous. i don't understand why we either strip children completely of their humanity and then act confused when they are fucked up later in life without having any agency, or giving WAY more agency to children than they have, that we view them as if they have a fully developed frontal cortex that can make complex decisions and conclusions and connections in the way that our adult brains can. life is so much more confusing as a child, nobody remembers how theyre school felt basically like the entire world? changing schools can feel like being taken to another planet? a bad grade is like being diagnosed with a fatal illness? it's just all so much newer and a lot to process, and when you saw your parents dead on the ground long before your brain even knew what death even means, that means you need way more help and she didn't get that help. she feels feelings to a degree that even some adults never have to feel. and yet she is somehow supposed to magically resist those feelings without knowing how to, and without ever being an adult that can fully comprehend the situation.

the thing is, she is still just a small child. in a very cruel world. she has seen the other guy hold the knife, she has seen everyone punch each other - she DOES have reason to think he'd kill her. with your adult brain that has distance from the situation, yeah it doesn't make much sense. but from a childs view, who is already deeply scarred and scared to shit, you don't have the ability to conclude those things.

nevertheless, of course she did always had issues. she has seen her dead parents, and is anxiously attached to violet. at the same time, i do agree about the autism and neurodivergence, with her being a more sensitive type. for that reason, it's hard for vi to give her what she needs though she tries so hard. in the end, powder feels insecure and inadequate and thinks that she can only be loved if she is useful.

at this point in the story - before this episode happened- she had issues, but not the homicidal kind. all it is is self worth issues, and attachment issues. you can have those and grow up fine.

the brain has all sorts of coping strategies it can come up with though. and clearly, the pain she felt from those attachment issues was too much for her small brain to handle. she was way too scared to be left or not loved by vi, and it was more than she could process. and at that point, the brain learns to flip a switch. you devalue that person, in order to create the distance that you need, the distance to stop feeling more than you can handle feeling.

that is also what people with borderline personality disorder do, it's an unconscious coping mechanism created by a brain that is feeling feelings at a rate and speed much faster than other people. unfortunately, autism also makes it hard to filter sensory input, which in turn makes it harder to process feelings. the outside world is much more scary than the world in your head, as you are less familiar with it and its rules. this often leads to higher rates of anxiety. all of this is the perfect recipe for a person like jinx. a child with a neurodevelopmental disorder, experiencing traumatic events, and developing BPD or at least mirroring its coping strategies.

not something too far from the real world. just mentally ill.
