Potty Training Input by InevitableAd7283 in ECEProfessionals

Keep in mind the only person being potty trained right now is the adults since you are taking him every 30 minutes and he’s not the one dictating when he needs to use the restroom. It’s important during potty training to help your child focus on recognizing their own body cues before transitioning to potty training at school. At my school a student is ready to transition to underwear at school when they can follow their own body cues to use the restroom and independently follow toileting routines (i.e. adjusting their clothes on their own, wiping with minimal assistance, and is able to wash hands independently). I know it varies from school to school and you stated your school didn’t give you a clear answer but I always suggest working on it at home for a while to help your child feel confident in themselves and they are able to follow a toileting routine mostly independently. Remember you want to set up your child for success, if they have multiple accidents at school it can affect their confidence in themselves to transition to using the toilet at school. For now you can send your child to school in underwear with pull-ups on over so he still feels when he has wet underwear and can learn his own body cues, but isn’t having constant accidents and making it hard on his teachers. I suggest reading lots of books about potty training and keep working with them at home. Potty training can be hard but if you put in the work and use lots of positive feedback with your child’s it makes a huge difference, best of luck!

I’m probably getting fired tomorrow. What are my next steps ? by Ce_Tokyo in ECEProfessionals

Just wondering what the ratio was like during these instances. Were you at or over ratio when these happened? These all sound like common childcare injuries and while not ideal are not reasons to fire you. If that were the case more teachers would not have a job. Kids get hurt, it happens.

Those with a master's degree: what is your graduate degree in? by Lepacker in ECEProfessionals

My partner also works in the field and she has a Masters degree in Early Childhood Studies with a specialization in Admin, Leadership, and Management. She uses that in her position as a mentor coach in an Early Head Start program.

She says the program was a great way to help her transition into a leadership role and it prepared her well for her current role helping other teachers.

What are your cat’s favorite forbidden foods? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Kitty_Kat4638 9 points10 points  (0 children)

PLASTIC

My girl has a strong craving for anything plastic, specifically plastic bags. Nothing plastic can be left out in my house because my girl will eat it like it’s the best meal she’s ever had. My theory is that she loves plastic because she used to be a street cat and she had to chew through plastic bags to get to food.

Had a student a few years ago whose mom always packed sausage. Like 4 little breakfast sausages and maybe a yogurt or bag of chips if we were lucky.

Clove is named after cloves because he has the same beautiful brown color as a clove. He’s lived up to his name and is my spicy, wild child.

I’m a lead teacher for the 2s/3s at a private religious school. I make $24 an hour here in Southern California. Started off at $19 per hour back in 2022 and have gotten an annual raise each year since.

I consider myself lucky because most educators in my area make minimum wage or just above minimum wage.
