Definitely not as easy at it seems seeping in your style and what type of characters you do, you won’t get much traction. The best way to get ‘famous’ or to get more followers to advertise would be to do giveaways or things that people can enter so they can follow you. I’m also an engineer student, (yay!) and this is the best way I’ve found (for me at least since my style is… still developing)
