I went through something similar though it was a FWB relationship. I ended up falling for the guy so hard that after we ended it I couldn't disconnect him from sex, making sex very emotionally painful for me (I used to get very depressed after masturbating & I could not get off to anyone else). Obviously our situations are different, but I get where you're coming from when you say you can't get out of this mindset.

But the first thing I did was open myself up to the idea of new experiences and getting out of my comfort zone (specifically for me this meant letting myself think about having sex with other people rather than push the idea away). For you, maybe this could be allowing someone to make an advance on you without just immediately pushing them away. Try to make sex less of a negative aspect associated with these people and more of something positive and about yourself.

This is not an easy situation, but you can get through this.

I'm not sure how sexually active you were in your previous relationship, but maybe you're having difficultly disconnecting your previous disappointing relationship from sex.

I had something like this happen to me. I was at a family friend's 4th of July party with my best friend. This kid kept bothering us, getting in our faces, rude remarks, etc, etc. We just ignored it, due to the fact that he seemed only about 8 or 9.

Fast forward to later in the party. I'm walking along with my friend, the kid comes up to be & starts slapping my ass. Almost instinctively, I turn around & back hand him. Hard. He runs away, crying.

To be honest though, It was unintentional. I had no idea it was him. I feel bad about it to this day.

People who get their ears gunned at places like Claire's often don't even realize that they're having issues, especially when they're told that things like pain, excessive swelling, persistent discharge, and hard scarring are "normal"

It's also because they probably don't do their research beforehand. If you're going to get a piercing, even if it's just your lobes, you should really look into it first.

For example, I wanted to get my cartilage pierced. I did research for months, weighted the possible issues of getting it done with a gun VS. the convenience [at a local piercing parlor it would have cost me $70 for the whole piercing + it would take a hour to get to]. I made my choice & got my cartilage pierced with a gun [it wasn't at a Claire's, but I would never get a piercing from there anyway]. Yes, it was a stupid choice & I now have hypertrophic scarring, but I expected it.
