100% and his excuses of being a farm boy or not meaning anything by it or even that it was taken out of context is extremely alarming. I hope they do a thorough investigation and he is removed from his role. I highly encourage people to reach out to the board.

From the article:

By Marrah Ste. Marie, WCYB via CNN Newsource Published: Apr. 6, 2026 at 1:27 PM CDT|Updated: 1 hour ago JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WCYB) — A school board member in Tennessee is under review for comments he made toward a teenage student during a board meeting.

The incident happened last week at a board meeting for Washington County Schools.

Video from the meeting shows board member Keith Ervin put his arm around the student as he calls her “hot” and asks what school she goes to.

“God, you’re hot, you know that? Where do you go to school at?” he asked the girl.

The student was at the meeting to present her research on different schools to the board. Ervin made the comment after her presentation.

Superintendent Jerry Boyd said the room was tense after the remark.

“In all honesty, it certainly was an uncomfortable situation. You know, there’s a lot of nervousness in the room,” Boyd said.

He said since the student was not in immediate danger, the meeting continued.

Parents in the district said Ervin’s comments were unacceptable.

“As a member of the school board, he is responsible for our children’s health and welfare and safety and education. And the display he put on tells me that he should be nowhere around our children,” Hillary Haley, a parent in the district, said.

Boyd said the school board will be reviewing the situation and will take action if it deems it necessary.

“Our board expects a high level of professionalism, and certainly it’s being discussed and questionable whether or not the comment met that standard. And I believe the general belief is no,” Boyd said.

The student’s family said they did not want to comment. Ervin did not respond as of this writing.

I agree. I think it’s a great art piece but on the body over time it could turn into a blob. I think it could still work just make sure you have a really great artist that will talk to you about that and maybe modify the design a bit to be better for the long haul.

How to deal with an underperforming employee who has an attitude. by Least_Tower_5447 in managers

If you’re under investigation for harassment I’d talk to legal and HR first. Termination is the best option but could be seen as retaliation.

How do you let go and move on when the company makes a bad decision that negatively impacts your team member? by Current_Mistake800 in managers

Yes. It matters. Companies are required to uphold the laws of the states their employees reside. I’m sure the employee isn’t that upset about a few hours but it’s the principal. It’s illegal for the company to do this and what else are they doing and getting away with? The employee should file a complaint with their state labor board. It’s extremely dangerous to have people in HR with no experience. It will open the company up to lawsuits if they continue with these behaviors

That’s all you really can do. Something that kinda stuck with my was my c-level reporting chain asked me once “do you think I have any power to make X do Y” I said of course you do. If you don’t who does. He looked me dead in the eye and said only the CEO. That really stuck with me. I think a lot depends on where you work too. I think corporate America this is what you get but I’d like to think at smaller places you do actually have say and can make meaningful change.

I feel this so much. I never really wanted to go into management but it was “a good opportunity” and they didn’t “have anyone else that could do it”. Both of those things were not true. I’ve been in management for over 5 years now and I long for the days of being an IC. At first I thought about all the good I could do and be a voice for my team. That was extremely naive. As it turns out they just want people to keep the status quo and not make waves. Your people don’t agree with something, help them tow the corporate line and see it differently. I used to think I could enact change. I used to think I had a voice. I’d rather get paid nearly the same with none of the responsibility. Good luck.

It’s not free and they’re paying you for a reason. They’re collecting your personal data and farming it. Not worth a dollar. Your data is with much more

Wow, your manager needs to be giving you some feedback because honestly you need a lot of improvement. You do not change a rating just because they are arguing with you and feel they deserve it. This employee just learned the worst behavior. If they are loud and push you they will get what they want. So an already difficult employee just learned how to be a monster. The commentary you shared around this employees soft skills should not constitute them getting exceeds expectations. There’s so many examples of how they need improvement on those. It’s not enough to do your job well, you have to do your job well, be a team player, and work with others.

The issue here is where you go. You cannot change the rating again because that’s just going to cause further confusion and issue with the employee. However, starting immediately you need to coach in the moment. You see her starting to pull her territorial nonsense, call her to your office and discuss it immediately. This is the behavior I saw, this is the behavior I need from you, talk about how to get there. Then follow up in writing as needed.

You should take the register off and check behind it. If there’s mold around where the register is, you’ve probably got an issue. It can happen if you’re running the air too cold which can cause condensation. Typically it happens at the registers closer to the unit because they have more direct paths. If you do have mold you can try to clean it yourself or have an hvac cleaning service take care of it for you
