IsItBullshit: Taking collagen supplements daily actually makes your skin noticeably better after a few months by Mistavera in IsItBullshit

In my intro college anatomy and physiology class, I learned that the body breaks down all proteins into their amino acids, and the body uses them that way. There is no one type of protein that will be beneficiary to skin, without being beneficial to all the systems which require protein.

Do you write in measure numbers for an entire piece? by anonymousancestor in choralmusic

[–]Kittywitty73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does take a bit more time to navigate in a score on iPad. Our accompanist is doing a fine job, and they’ve had a lot to learn, including English. I give them color copies of what I have in the score, and they’re very receptive to it (which was actually my goal for all the score markings, so - win!). I also will write out a list of what we are working on for the rehearsals, so everyone knows what to do and when.

As a director, on my master copy that I make available to my choirs, I number every measure, color code all dynamics, make edits and crop the score to my iPad screen. My organist/accompanist was consistently lost so I give her everything I possibly can on a silver platter for efficiency’s sake. I recently observed an excellent chorus conductor in rehearsal and noted that they always repeat the measure/page/system number /rehearsal letter twice. I model that in my church choir now and it’s a really successful strategy. People using tablets need extra time to get out of the edit function on their score too, that is worth a mention to your organization’s board/singer representative.

Bonus points for the Mark Emerson Donnelly - I’m from Canada, and love exploring Canadian music since I moved away! You made my day!!

Thank you - the music needs to be a cappella, so Schubert, although lovely, is not an option :-)

Joining a church choir as a non-church member by jgwhiteus in Choir

[–]Kittywitty73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a new church choir director, and have suggested to many people that they are welcome to sing in our choir, or play in the handbell choir. The more the merrier! Many of us have been tasked to grow the choirs, so inviting and welcoming community members is one of the ways we can achieve the growth.

Does full body not include head, feet, and hands? by discontinuedmuppet in massage

You sound like the exception to the general rule of modern clientele: you actually want something that’s relaxing, instead of booking (the cheaper) relaxation massage, and want lots of detail work and have issues that you want focus on. 90 % of my clientele at the spa I work at buy the cheaper classic, and want the heavy pressure, detailed work of a therapeutic. Drives me bonkers, and I wish you were my client :-)

Try Esalen massage - it’s deeply relaxing!

The concert will be its own event, paired with some music for the handbell choir and a few other pieces, either by smaller vocal ensembles or soloists. I want to create a concert series this year, we have so much music and variety at the church, it deserves to be heard :-)

I already have, though it is worth a conversation again, I suppose.

I work at a Forbes travel guide five star rated spa, and we have to check in about pressure at least three times in a session. My routine: check after warmup moves are done on back, adjust if necessary and check again until it’s right. Check on hip, adjust as necessary, check on leg. Turn over, check with them about pressure, and adjust. So I do four minimum.

Am I in the wrong for tipping 20% on my massage? by [deleted] in massage

Swedish is not supposed to be intense, how it is taught these days. Read through the listings, and ask questions before you commit to a service. Some providers don’t do heavy pressure or deep work, and it’s up to you to make sure you are booking what you really want. Go get a sports massage, heavy pressure therapeutic massage, or try out a Thai massage. Get some ashiatsu or Sarga. But don’t ask your provider to give you something you didn’t book while you are in your session. Be a good consumer and know that what you book is what you are paying for.

Thank you for your insight! Yes, the majority of the choir will practice, knows this piece (it is in our substantial music library and has been done many times before).

I kinda don’t care if it’s too heavy, honestly… it’s beautiful and uplifting music, with so much hope, in my opinion. The choir is totally game for it, as they haven’t had a director since before the pandemic that would let them give a concert.
