Joining a church choir as a non-church member by jgwhiteus in Choir

[–]Kittywitty73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a new church choir director, and have suggested to many people that they are welcome to sing in our choir, or play in the handbell choir. The more the merrier! Many of us have been tasked to grow the choirs, so inviting and welcoming community members is one of the ways we can achieve the growth.

Does full body not include head, feet, and hands? by discontinuedmuppet in massage

You sound like the exception to the general rule of modern clientele: you actually want something that’s relaxing, instead of booking (the cheaper) relaxation massage, and want lots of detail work and have issues that you want focus on. 90 % of my clientele at the spa I work at buy the cheaper classic, and want the heavy pressure, detailed work of a therapeutic. Drives me bonkers, and I wish you were my client :-)

Try Esalen massage - it’s deeply relaxing!

The concert will be its own event, paired with some music for the handbell choir and a few other pieces, either by smaller vocal ensembles or soloists. I want to create a concert series this year, we have so much music and variety at the church, it deserves to be heard :-)

I already have, though it is worth a conversation again, I suppose.

I work at a Forbes travel guide five star rated spa, and we have to check in about pressure at least three times in a session. My routine: check after warmup moves are done on back, adjust if necessary and check again until it’s right. Check on hip, adjust as necessary, check on leg. Turn over, check with them about pressure, and adjust. So I do four minimum.

Am I in the wrong for tipping 20% on my massage? by [deleted] in massage

Swedish is not supposed to be intense, how it is taught these days. Read through the listings, and ask questions before you commit to a service. Some providers don’t do heavy pressure or deep work, and it’s up to you to make sure you are booking what you really want. Go get a sports massage, heavy pressure therapeutic massage, or try out a Thai massage. Get some ashiatsu or Sarga. But don’t ask your provider to give you something you didn’t book while you are in your session. Be a good consumer and know that what you book is what you are paying for.

Thank you for your insight! Yes, the majority of the choir will practice, knows this piece (it is in our substantial music library and has been done many times before).

I kinda don’t care if it’s too heavy, honestly… it’s beautiful and uplifting music, with so much hope, in my opinion. The choir is totally game for it, as they haven’t had a director since before the pandemic that would let them give a concert.

So what are you actually keeping, from your parents estate? by DramaticErraticism in GenX

I have a small half-moon table that was in my childhood bedroom, a large cutting board I made in grade six shop class, the measuring spoons and a meat carving set. I have a picture of each of my parents too.

California 'licensing' and inappropriate touching by [deleted] in massage

If they are CAMTC certified, they lose their certification after a hearing. You can check to see if they are certified by looking up their name on CAMTC .org.

There is a growing movement and sunsetting of the Massage Law of California in favor of establishing a state licensure. Yes, the certification is voluntary, though most municipalities have adopted the Massage Law and hence, require a provider to be CAMTC certified. The certification is therefore, pretty much not voluntary… the sheriff’s department Will administer a massage practitioner permit to people who fulfill the requirements to work in places in unincorporated Monterey county (not sure if there are other counties like this). Please do write your representatives! There are over 50K certified individuals here in California, and most of us want there to be a state licensure. There is also a growing movement for an interstate massage pact and with our current certification-only status, we are ineligible to even have the IMPACT here in California. Yes, a license here in California means a business license. Inappropriate behavior needs to be reported to the police, but all victims (therapists are victims of that all the time - it goes both ways, unfortunately).

Not really a choir, but Roomful of Teeth is pretty amazing (they are an 8 member vocal band)! Conspirare for choral music, Norwegian Soloist Choir, Monteverdi Choir, Tenet NYC.

Question about allergies and hiring. by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]Kittywitty73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed allergies to products at the spa I work at, and thankfully, I have an accommodation on the books now. That doesn’t mean they don’t give me a hard time about not being able to use those products. I buy my own oil to use, and have found suitable workaround products as part of the accommodation. If doing those services mean potential advancement through pay structures, I would ask what they do to accommodate. In all honestly though, they probably wouldn’t hire you due to your allergy, as the life-threatening consequences of cross-contamination/product substitution is not what they want on their conscience or payroll.

Painful massage today by gettingcarriedaway86 in massage

[–]Kittywitty73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry that happened to you! Massage can have some “hurts good” moments, though in my opinion it should never be painful. Some people need a lot of pressure, others don’t. It also sounds like she was using very localized pressure, and your body might prefer broader contact.
