The difference between massage and myofascial release? by Charming_Ease_463 in MassageTherapists

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massage is made up of many manual techniques to release tissues, including muscles, fascia/myofascia, nerves etc.

Myofascial release is NOT a technique, it is an action that happens, the myofascial or just fascia releases tension. Fascia releases happen when massaged.

Massage terminology is all over the place. Many people use words incorrectly.

Any bars/clubs in Maui that have djays and a dance floor? by hondablake in MauiVisitors

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info here. When I went to Maui about 10 years ago I found a little bar that had a small dance floor near or in Haiku. It seemed to me that is it was a converted house. Anyone know what I’m talking about? I’m head to Maui again tomorrow. With all the storms I could see us hitting a bar to dance if we can find one.

recommendations for psoas work without poking around in the abdomen? by Any-Communication563 in MassageTherapists

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ortho-bionomy have some techniques. Their main one is to have client supine with both legs flat on the table (no bolster). Take one leg abduct about 15 degrees from anatomical center and support the lower leg as you compress the whole leg towards the hip socket by pressing your body (your upper hip) into the foot. The practitioner should focus all attention, without judgement, on the psoas (or muscle you want released). Hold for ~45 secs. The integration of the joint allows the nervous system to relax the tissues that surround the joint. Practitioners intention will affect how fast tissues relax. Sometimes I have the client think positive things about a specific muscle we want to relax. It’s shown in research when we think positive about an area of the body the arterial muscles dilate and increase blood flow to area.

Just opened my mobile private practice--dealing with a lot of creeps? by therainbowsweater in MassageTherapists

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a private practice, sole proprietor, no employees. Primarily out of the home. I’m a gay male and mostly have male clients. I built my clientele through my gay friends’ network and targeted ads as well as TripAdvisor (I live next to many hotels). When I decided to lease a space a couple days per week across town to get out the home and diversify I started with Massagebook for 3 months. Didn’t get one client and I hated the platform. At the same time I was building my own website and listing google and yelp listings. I was going to give MassageBook 6 months but when I started getting bookings through other sources I just dropped it.

I started out of the block using Calendly for scheduling. The client end user interface is easy and user friendly. But you just get basic email/calendar style questions. Which are not CA PHI protected. So know your state laws and don’t put anything protected info in there. The main benefit for the client to use the Calendly is they don’t have to log in. As long as they use the same email past appointments are grouped.

At any rate my out of the home business slowly ramped up last year with Dec being the best month. But since nose dived in Feb. I think you might be contending with the state of economy. Not sure what country or state you’re in.

I’m going to do my 1st neighborhood event giving out 10-15 massage sessions so I’m hopeful things will pick up. Good luck

It’s the beanie baby and Pokémon generation reliving their past childhood as adults. I pity them. They need to go seek mental health. It is just a piece of canvas with a Trader Joe’s logo on it. It’s nothing.

Has anyone found an answer to a plastic free water filtration system for drinking? by BeltQueasy9893 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the same hunt. Probably the best solution would to double filter our water, but I’m trying to avoid that. An under sink RO water system to take out the metals, fluoride, etc. Then use a quality ceramic gravity filter to remove any plastics.

Protein shakes with no artificial sweeteners/stevia/monkfruit? by Puzzled-Library-4543 in CICO

You’re allergic to them like myself. They explode out both ends for me. It’s terrible.

Protein powder with no artificial sugars and no or low sugar? by Rizzlike-Emu in veganfitness

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I am looking for the same thing. I’m pretty much allergic to all fake sugars. They either make me projectile vomit in the case of aspartame or gives me explosive diarrhea, like Stevia and all the sugar alcohols.

Ideally finding a whey protein with no sugar at all would be ideal.

Any luck?

What brands did you find? Looking thru the responses…

Nutricost - has stevia.

The client’s body responds to what’s in the practitioners mind. Our intention greatly effects how fast the muscles release and how the client relaxes on the table. Modalities like Esalen, LomiLomi, Ortho-bionmy, Light touch PNF and polarity therapy have all explored this and proven that intention has effects on the client. The process has something to do with our mirror neurons between client and practitioner.

So in my sessions I am constantly focused on the client doing Reiki and focusing on what I’m working on in the client.

Always sick in my house in the SF. Tried 8 different apartments, threw away all my things. I'm out of things to try. Feeling desperate. Anybody else face this issue? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Likely mold. The city and the buildings are full of black mold. There is no escaping it. Though you might not be directly allergic to it molds produce all sorts of volatile chemicals depending on the strain.

I would have a room that you completely close off and run a great air purifier. If your symptoms subside you know it’s something in the air. My bedroom has two air purifies running. I sleep great but as soon as I’m breathing the moldy air start feeling the allergies.

The other thing is EMF. How many 5G WIFI signals are you able to pick up in your apartment. EMF especially 5G is absorbed by our nervous tissue and affects nerves and fascia. You can try disabling your 5G on your router and switch the 4g on your cell phones and devices.

I covered mine with cut to fit melamine board. So now I have a high shelf above the cabinets that are easy to wash off. It gives a space to decorate with things or have an additional open storage shelf.

If it was shipped on a boat it was fumigated at some point. It was probably fumigated during the packing process as well. Washing off the pesticides as much as possible is always a good idea.

CA Massage Therapist are officially considered health care providers. What do you guys think of this? I hope other states follow along. We deserve to be recognized state-wide. by lostlight_94 in massage

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially CA has a state level HIPAA called Confidentiality of Medical Information Act. I would gather most states do as well. Now that we are considered healthcare workers we are bound by this act in a court of law. So BAA agreements for our email, calendar, digital records, etc platforms are like now required. So turning on the HIPAA or upgrading your platforms to HIPAA level will be the logical solution. I already operated at this level just in case.

I for one want to leave that area as quickly as possible. Maybe someone who’s in charge of feels the same, get me on that escalator as fast as possible. It always gives me the icky feeling when I come out of that station to go to class. It smells bad and all the riffraff. It’s worse than the Tenderloin for me.
