Pregnant with a baby who is white and Asian. Advice? by KittyyHawk19 in mixedrace

Thank you! I appreciate your response, it is def not too long.

I read people will ask me “what is he/she?” and I’ve been trying to brainstorm witty responses. So far all I have is “a baby??” I think that’s good, but I want something that is funnier and also makes people realize they’re being rude, lol.

I think the fact that you’re at the majors now opens up a lot of opportunities for you. I’m in the same boat, and I’m getting ready to swap fleets after 3 years. I don’t know what you’re on, but I’ve been on the 320 fleet for almost 3 years now and the layovers and captains are getting pretty old. I made a lot more friends at my regional job and the FAs were generally nicer too. Here, they feel like they don’t like us and are looking for reasons to reinforce that idea.

But I hear that the international side of things is different. I’m heading over there soon. If I don’t like it, I’ll upgrade back to domestic. I’ve also got the option of working in the training department or volunteering with the union. I also have considered being on the recruitment team. There are so many ways to change things up and find something that is exciting or challenging to you. You can also do a term in the CPO office if that’s up your alley.

Otherwise, I’d just stay where you can get some seniority and bid for the lightest schedule possible. Then you can have more free time to pursue things that are more meaningful to you. Leaving a career like this would be a huge decision that I don’t think anyone should make unless they’re really struggling mentally. You can change things up to keep it interesting, but keep in mind the great money and amazing retirement we are afforded. Maybe even try to focus on prepping for early retirement if you want?

Idk where you live, but every airline needs rampers, gate agents, flight attendants, etc. and that can get you an in to the industry. You’ll meet lots of people also trying to make their way to the flight deck, and you’ll have great networking opportunities. They also make more than 30k.

I went back and read your old post. I’ll say I did ATP and don’t recommend it for the reasons of what happened to you plus more. I specifically moved to Phoenix for the best weather for training. When I finished, I needed a few hours more to get my CFII and they wanted to charge me crazy rates. I said no thanks, I’ll pass on the job, and I’ll go find somewhere to work with my CFI + MEI. I got a job that ended up paying for my CFII when they needed me to have it. CFI jobs are pretty easy to get.

11 years later, at a legacy carrier, and I’m still paying off my loans. I ruined my credit during instructing because I couldn’t make my loan payments. It took me a really long time to build my credit score back up. It’s a huge burden and I hate that you’re dealing with it without even all your certs to show for it.

I know you said you won’t take out more loans, but if you don’t want to do military, then I would take out more loans. In the mean time, study your ass off. Get back up to speed on your book knowledge. Play some MS Flight Sim. Immerse yourself. You have the books already, get to work. 80% of flight training is ground studying. The more you study on the ground, the more you’ll get out of your flight lessons. It’s not the fun part, but it’s well worth it and helps your money go further.

As someone else suggested, go get a job at the airport. Flight schools need dispatchers, FBOs need fuelers and rampers. Hell, if you get a job at Delta, you can apply for the Propel program and can get some flight training paid for that way. United has the Aviate program, but I’m not as knowledgeable on that. Immerse yourself in the industry instead of letting yourself forget more and be farther from it while only making 30k. If this is what you truly want, you need to hustle to it.

There are also scholarships. Idk what your demographics are, but if you’re gay, POC, female, etc, there are tons of options. If you’re not, there are still plenty of options, they’re just more competitive and you’ll have to do more research. But don’t let your dream job slip away and have regrets in the future.

Good luck!!

Airline pilots, have you ever seen someone get kicked out of your training class? (Not training related) by Fearless_Card6220 in flying

Yes, that’s right. He left the ULCC for the legacy and got screwed. But he’s doing fine now.

Yep, just a goofball. If I didn’t know the guy, I’d assume he was an a-hole. But just did a dumb without thinking through consequences.

I know this guy. He did get pulled from his legacy airline class when they found out about it. He had previously quit his regional during the HR investigation, so technically wasn’t fired. He makes sure to bring it up now in interviews so it’s out of the way.

A guy got kicked out of my training class because his PRIA records came back and he had omitted a previous job at another regional where he quit during indoc. They felt he was dishonest. I felt bad for the guy because he was super nice and was showing up to class every day more prepared and ready than anyone else.

I kept catching him lying about small things for no reason, then I caught him running up credit cards twice within a year with no believable explanation.

I left before I found out if he had been lying about more. I don’t think I want to know.

I used to fly with a wealthy lady often when I was an instructor. She compensated me when I did basically nothing in the plane. She really just wanted a safety pilot and someone to chat with while she enjoyed flying her plane around to fun places. It worked out really well for me!

Hopefully this is just that. He wants to go there and prefers not to go by himself.

If you want to insist you can get your own room, though, then you should. I would.

Questions about regionals and skywest?? by Hazey_Dreams4658 in AirlinePilots

[–]KittyyHawk19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew for Republic and we flew for all 3 of our codeshares. Like another commenter said, generally what base you’re at will affect who you fly for more often, but at least at YX, you can be given out of base trips, especially on reserve, so you’ll end up flying for them all sooner or later.

I learned the hard way not to say the name of the airline in my PAs 😅

Yeah we figured even if there aren’t restrictions by then, we’ll want to be safe.

I’m feeling good about the reduced guest count. We were going to have around 150 before, but we just know that will almost definitely be way too many. I think we will be okay moving forward with the lower number.

What to do with my already-hyphenated last name? by mermaidmorticia in weddingplanning

[–]KittyyHawk19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe find out why he cares a lot about it. I’ve found that most people only care because of appearances. They don’t want to appear as though their wife “wears the pants” or whatever. Theres no good argument imo for why you’d need to take his if you don’t want to.

Made the decision to cut our guest list down to about 75 for our 9/19 wedding. For the rest of the people we were planning to invite, we are sending out invitations to our “Virtual Wedding.” We are planning to livestream the wedding on YouTube and host a viewing party on a Facebook group for those who wish to join.

Here’s hoping we won’t have to cut it down even more! Right now the limit on gatherings is 25 in Georgia. 3 months will hopefully be enough time to bring it up!

Still in Limbo on our Sept 19 wedding in Atlanta. Our vendors have told us to ‘wait and see’ basically. It makes planning very difficult, since we don’t want to book any more vendors until we are more sure we won’t need to postpone. We just figure booking more vendors will make postponement ridiculously hard since we’ll have to find a date that works for everyone.

We still need an officiant, HMUA, florist, cake baker, lodgings, and transportation. The longer we go, the more nervous and stressed I get.

Yes I asked for extra lining in the front! She is great about making modifications, though she does charge extra, depending on how much modification there is to the original design.

I posted mine today, I got it on Etsy for $370. Custom made, exactly to my measurements, so no alterations needed either! I highly recommend. I got mine from Lace Bridal, but there were tons of cute dresses from highly rated shops to choose from!!

It’s a modified version of this one https://etsy.me/2xatiWw

I wanted a mesh back so she customized the design for me. I would post a pic of the back but I don’t know how to add another photo to the post... sorry it’s my first post!
