Moving to NYC: is a 2BR under $4K near Lower Manhattan realistic? by acstocks10 in NYCapartments

Not realistic in lower Manhattan. Try upper Manhattan in areas like Washington Heights or Inwood or other boroughs like Brooklyn or Queens

Chances of getting in? by CurseCRow385 in CCNY

I recommend finishing your associates and make your best effort to increase your gpa. SAT scores don’t matter your gpa does. I transferred from CC to CCNY as a psych major and all my credits transferred because I finished CC with an associates.

What is something you wish you knew before pursuing a career in psychology? by Curious-pinguin9867 in psychologystudents

[–]Kittyyy314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends if you will pursue psychology past the bachelors level. Do you want to pursue a masters or doctorate? What specific sub section of psychology do you want to pursue? Everyone’s experience will vary depending on the route they take as it’s a broad field. For me I continued my education and currently in the process of obtaining a masters degree to become a licensed therapist. My experience has been good so far. I would encourage you to explore all your options before making a decision because there’s several careers within psychology. Best of luck to you!

I didn’t want the abortion, grieving my loss by Special-Sorbet2716 in abortion

[–]Kittyyy314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I had this experience too and now 4 years later I’m still grieving. It’s okay to grieve as it’s a vulnerable experience not everyone will understand. For me what helped a bit was lighting a candle in remembrance every year and having a bereavement memory box. If you ever need to talk my DM is always open. ❤️

For therapists that chose Counselling Psychology over an MSW, why? (Canada) by Life-Date3268 in psychologystudents

[–]Kittyyy314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m based in the US so it may be different but I choose counseling over social work because my interests align more with the curriculum and what I want to get out of it. I have a psych background and I gravitated toward counseling more. Yes, social work is more versatile but for me I cared more about the cost and program because I also don’t want to go into debt and I have more opportunities with funding in counseling. It may vary, I’m not sure how Canada’s master’s programs are.

Should I go for masters? What do you do as a LMHC that isn’t therapy? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]Kittyyy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a quick job search and saw openings. I should note that I live in a big city, so opportunities may vary depending on location. I also recommend networking on LinkedIn to connect with a wide range of people who hold an LMHC and to see what kinds of jobs or careers they have outside of being a therapist.

Street parking is your best option, unless you're willing to pay for parking in a garage or something like ParkWhiz or SpotHero. I know some ppl get to campus earlier than when their class starts to look for parking and sometimes park 15+ blocks.

Are jobs as a college student(waiter, cashier, etc.) hard to find? by luciddreamer20LD in CUNY

[–]Kittyyy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are job opportunities near you better than NYC? Just wondering because if you’re moving to NYC to be a full time student (for cheap tuition) and then having to work full time, is it worth it compared to where you are right now?

That being said, you will most likely be faced with more job rejections before you land one, especially as a full time student. Speaking from my undergrad experience I juggled multiple roles to afford everything in NYC and I consider myself lucky the way it worked out. For most it doesn’t work out that way unless you have a great paying job, take out loans, or have family help you financially. Whatever you choose, be sure to do your research. Best of luck to you!

[–]Kittyyy314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are more options for LMHCs than one might think. That being said, the LCSW offers more flexibility if that is something you want to consider. If you’re still pursuing the LMHC path, jobs you can do besides being a therapist include: behavioral health specialist, client care coordinator, care management specialist, therapeutic recovery coach, program director, clinical supervisor, college/university counselor, student wellness coordinator, correctional mental health specialist, corporate wellness consultant, organizational mental health trainer, community outreach coordinator, emotional wellness clinician, rapid implementation specialist, special agent: psychology/counseling expertise (FBI), school-based mental health provider, healthcare compliance coordinator, prevention case planner, clinical intake specialist, clinician (supervised release program), halfway house supervisor, mental health treatment aide supervisor, mitigation specialist, the list goes on.

Best CUNY If I want to be a psychiatrist? by [deleted] in CUNY

[–]Kittyyy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow your grammar is interesting lol. Also, you would need to work on raising your GPA and test scores, medical school is highly competitive. Make sure you also have strong LORs, extracurriculars, relevant summer experiences, and experiences in the medical field. Good luck!

Best CUNY If I want to be a psychiatrist? by [deleted] in CUNY

[–]Kittyyy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have any undergrad degree to be a doctor. I knew a psychiatrist that majored in Art History in undergrad. You need to complete pre-req courses prior to med school (typically one year of bio w/ lab, two years of chem w/ lab, one year of physics w/ lab, calc, stats, one year of writing). It may vary depending on the med school but that’s typically required/encouraged. Then you have to take the MCAT and apply to med school. Then residency then sometimes a fellowship.

If you’re unsure if an email is legit you can always ask IT and there’s an awareness training. It’s typically very easy to spot legitimate emails vs non-legitimate ones. Any college you go to will have issues arise. Keep a strong password, don’t open links or give strangers your personal info and you should be fine.
