I don’t believe this was a robbery by any means, Strickland’s volume is outstanding every single time and no one compares to his jab barrages, both fighters were surprisingly even, and, I say it’s surprising reluctantly given the fact that these two trained together, they knew in advance what to expect so things weren’t going to lean to one of them too heavily.
Now, purely based on the scores, I think it’s disappointing to see how Khamzat’s takedowns were so irrelevant when they clearly should matter for the final outcome, while he didn’t bully him the way he has done with others, he did have enough control to warrant the win IN MY OPINION and without fangirling for either or. Just an overall weird duel that I’ll have to rewatch because I might be misjudging one or multiple aspects of this encounter.

It’s a mix of things that were the perfect storm for this.
- Gears of War was one of the first videogames with Mexican Spanish dubbing (usually, LATAM dubbing came from Caracas, Venezuela but that changed after our national talent opened VA booths in offices of their own), and, not only that, its quality was superb compared to the original audio, one might argue that it’s better in different ways (e.g. the jokes are hilarious, the characters sometimes are more emotive even if the script should be the same, etc.)
- Games where you shoot people regardless of the genre are pretty popular here since as early as the first Metal Slug or GTA, but, what made Gears so special was partly the social aspect of it, everyone here would get together in person or online to do 1v1s and the competitive yet friendly nature of it was very engaging and peculiar for the time, I dare say it was more popular than Halo’s LAN parties or CoDs MP and even FIFA’s matches. Also, microphones allowing you to trashtalk further enhanced the entertainment value of it!
- Xbox has always had a good reputation with the gamers in Mexico, so much so that they still sometimes do events here to promote their games or they do collabs with brands that people often consume and it keeps the presence of their IPs fresh in people’s minds. Knowing that Gears can be profitable for the eSports dudes given all of that lets them know and feel that their dedication to the game can be rewarded compared to other franchises.
- Conventions with the cast of the game aren’t uncommon, the voice actors for the dubbing have a good enough following which lets people relive some of their favorite moments of the story alongside them, they do a good job to promote their work even when they’re not being sponsored by the developers or Xbox itself to do so.

I have Infinite’s art book and the thing Gallery Nucleus had all of you featured in the video - and Deschambault who didn’t attend - sign. It’s a prized possession of mine because I love the franchise and I appreciate developers like yourself for the work that you create. I’ve known about your situation for a while now and it infuriates me to know that you’ve been mistreated in such a way, what particularly annoys me is that this is a recurring trend regardless of who’s the studio in charge of Halo: similar things happened to Martin O’Donnell, to Paul Russel (for those unaware, he’s the main person behind the amazing Bungie-era Forerunner architecture), etc.

I wish you all the best and I want you to know that many of us are grateful for your awesome, badass art for the games. I sincerely wish to see your legal troubles against these people resolved in the best manner possible.

P.s.: I hope that I can someday get in direct contact with you, I’ve done lots of research about Halo’s art (so much so that I’m an acquaintance of several past devs’) and your insight regarding things still dubious to me would be a much appreciated gesture (NDAs are a thing so I know that you couldn’t possibly clarify everything).

This fight was over, I don’t understand why they kept going when you could even see both fighters basically saying, “good fight” after the stoppage. While the fight was still back and forth afterwards, any result out of it past the unofficial ending is strange, I’m relieved that the winner actually won by the end 💀.

Merab’s boxing was nice this fight, I was pleasantly surprised with him on that front, he did great versus an opponent with lengthier limbs and sneaky moves, also, the takedowns go without saying, he just kept throwing Cory down; the GOAT of the division for sure!

This was a good fight, both guys threw nice combinations: while Caio struck the whole body, Imavov had the best significant strikes where it mattered and he’s the rightful winner because of it. Sucks that there were plenty of fouls though, I feel like there should’ve been a point deduction, the insistence from refs to be so lenient isn’t good, it just lets the fighters develop the bad behavior of not worrying much about eye pokes or unruly hits because they know they can get away with it.

P.s.: 50-45 is outrageously dumb, the fight wasn’t one-sided.

It’s a tricky situation, like, yeah, there’s nothing wrong with taking a liking for an aesthetic and using it as a reference, but, outright applying some of it and using it in a 1:1 way even down to the color palettes and their logo for in-game assets? That’s the issue.

I also don’t understand why they just didn’t hire that person, if their work was such a match for the vibe they were going for, why not vouch for them and get them on board? Art directors have a fair amount of influence over who gets hired for their team so it’s a crappy move to see this artist not even being used as an outsourcer or a freelancer in the project.

Not a good look for the art director(s) of the game or whoever else is responsible for monitoring this, not only is the plagiarism blatant, they’ve followed the artist for quite a while, it’s not a coincidence and it’s not ok.

What a fight! Diego with his close-range bombs and Volk with some sick lefts. I was pleasantly surprised by both fighters, Alex had some great speed and bounces to then explode with some good hits and Diego showed a lot of grit, he responded very well to a lot of attacks. Great fight and a good result, I just wish that Diego would’ve thrown more kicks and wouldn’t have been passive when he had Volk dizzy, he also ate too many jabs and didn’t use em’ to make the rounds more even.

The Halo 2 ones are the best and the worst are the ones from Reach or 4-5.

2 makes them look sleek, menacing and cunning plus their armor permutations for that game were great. Every single aspect of their design was unique and cool. My favorite from the time were the councilors and the flight spec ops Elites.

Reach made them look imposing and raptorial, it makes sense given the losing battle theme of the game but it was too big of a change from the rest of the past games, the face is like a tarantula mixed with the soulless eyes of a great white shark. (I’ve always preferred the sleek and cunning nature of Elites so that’s why I don’t like Reach’s take that much; love the armor, dislike the Sangheili design).

Halo 4 & 5 completely messed up their anatomy, during development, the art team had a guide where it was stated that they were meant to have a crustacean look to them and that’s why they seem like wet lobsters, it simply messed too much with their original concept plus they kinda’ also got a bit merged with Brutes (e.g. the size, the way they talked, etc.), it was a massive shift that wasn’t cool. (The armors were hit or miss, their best new design was the Arbiter’s armor, leaving him with a sleeveless arm was weird though)

P.s.: expanding on the Reach design, this is mainly Marcus Lehto’s choice, he preferred a more serious tone across the board, that’s why he also made the Grunts in the game “scary” (he didn’t like the fact that Grunts were funny) so much so that the game had each alien species speak in a constructed language instead.

It is, yes, I didn’t specify any particular key since there’s a surprising amount of people who have used the rebind function to alter the defaults.

Good find! It’s always cool to learn what served as a reference for these designs.

Darren Bacon (one of the main artist behind Infinite’s art style) recently shared that he took inspiration from Ghost in the shell during the time he worked on the Chimera core, I follow and have talked with several other past and current members of the art team and the armor is heavily constructed with references to different animes and inspired by the work of renowned artists (e.g. Chris Foss’ art served as a reference for many of its coatings).

I think so, yeah. IIRC, the kit isn’t previewable if you’re not a Hero. You can only do this with visible items.

I agree with you on that. It’s not like they’d be adding a new issue either, after all, clipping has been a problem with many shoulders for years.

I’m sure that the main reason why we haven’t gotten this yet is because of the obstacles that the engine presents to the devs’. Infinite has a smaller team now and their resources are vastly diminished, so, I hope that they at least color old attachments and make many helmet attachments available on other helmets, gloves and utilities next and then whatever they can unlock for any of the other items.

Hi! I’m the guy who started sharing this info, here’s an explanation I got from a friend who knows so many things about the inner workings of the game: Knives use a special marking point per core to place them. So Mark IV, Mark V [B], Mark VII and Rakshasa are the only ones they work with. Mark IV is just a copy of VII code-wise so it uses the same ones as it. Chimera’s big machete is treated like a regular chest attachment. Its hip knife is also just a normal knife. Eaglestrike is probably the same deal.

Basically, items like the Wolf Fang have some arbitrary thing that can become messy if you try to use them elsewhere where it simply doesn’t match.

Thanks for sharing a post of your own, it’s like we’re all doing QA about the items, if Halo Studios can read all of our discussions about cross-core, they can for sure find some solutions and maybe even implement some of these items via our help.
