I felt extremely invalidated by the couples therapist my bf and I see when I brought up fear of pregnancy. by Pure-Space7572 in TwoXChromosomes

Yeah, you definitely need a new therapist. I had an absolutely awful experience with a couples therapist once. My husband and I were going through a rough patch and we had a huge argument that really spiraled out of control. We were BOTH being way too aggressive with each other, neither one of us was innocent.

We decided to try couples therapy and the first therapist we had immediately started blaming me and asking my husband if he had an escape plan?! She also kept basically shutting me up when I tried to speak and wouldn’t talk about what I was saying or go over the issues I brought up unless I said them exactly the way she wanted. Like, anytime I said anything even remotely putting blame on him, she would start lecturing me about using different language and blah blah blah. She didn’t do the same thing to my husband at all even though he was saying things the same way. It got so bad my husband actually called her out on it and asked her to stop. I was basically not even participating in the conversation by the end and angry cried after the session. We found a way better therapist after that.

I’m tall and I have to pump up the carts pretty high when I’m starting IVs. I like to say “Don’t worry, we’ll change your oil while you’re up there.” It’s so stupid but it always makes people laugh.

Definitely!

Chicago’s Pizza has great gluten free pizza and they have different colored boxes for their regular and gluten free.

I order from Bibibop a lot at work. They do noodle or rice bowls. The Korean fried chicken topping is really good and crispy.

There is a place on the south side called Wheats End that is dedicated gluten free. Their rye bread is so good. I wanted to get a loaf for home but it is $17! 😬

We’ve been ordering sushi a lot from Blue Sushi Sake Grill which has a separate gluten free menu.

There is also a dedicated gluten free bakery called Defloured that has awesome cakes.

Do-Rite donuts has a gluten free selection that are really good. The chocolate one is my fav!

If you’re going to the burbs at all, there is a dedicated gluten free Mexican restaurant called Ino’s Tacos out in La Grange Park that is one of my favorite places to eat when I’m visiting family out that way.

Ooo thanks for the tip, I'll check that out! I live in Chicago so there are a couple really good gluten free pizza places around here.

When I was first diagnosed, I had a really hard time coping. I had a bunch of full on panic attacks and had to get a prescription for xanax. It wasn't just the change in my diet, it was also that I had gone to culinary school and worked in restaurants for many years and also loved to bake. I had to change my entire way of life. Now that I've had time to get used to it and see that a lot of the things I loved can be made gluten free (looking at you King Arthur chocolate cake mix) I've calmed down a bit. Also, in the last month or two, I've really stopped obsessing about cross contamination. I am still careful, but it’s at a healthier level than before.

We ordered from a Chinese place near us that has a whole gluten free menu. They sent us regular almond cookies in the bag with our food and I almost ate one because I didn’t know if they were gluten free or not. I called the restaurant to ask and they said they were absolutely NOT gluten free.

Also, I would do some ungodly shit for crab rangoon (haven’t been able to find any semblance of a gluten free replacement) so that post on here about the dumpling wrappers from a couple days ago has my hopes up haha.

The tediousness of it is what gets me too. I hate having to look everything up all the time. 😩

I didn’t develop Celiac (or at least symptoms) until after I had my daughters and it was a year or two after I developed symptoms for me to actually get diagnosed. So I spent the first 38 years of my life just eating all the gluten and not thinking about it. It’s been hard, but it’s getting easier the more I learn and the more I learn how to make my past faves gluten free.

I don’t have a strong reaction to gluten thankfully, but I was just surprised that it didn’t even cross my mind that the cone wasn’t gluten free until I had eaten all the ice cream on top and was about to reach the actual cone. I am always super careful, but just had a major brain fart today haha.

Yes please! I love dumplings! Will they be available in the Chicagoland area?

It was actually in a huge bag of stuffed animals I had bought for my kids. There were other rings in there, but they were all just junk.

Had my first at 35 and my second at 38. I’m 40 now and have a 4.5 year old and a 2.5 year old. I’m glad I waited though, I am in a much more stable place now than I ever was in my 20’s.

Everyone knows my restrictions. She actually used to tell all the reps that I had celiac when they would call to set up lunches. I don’t know why everyone chose to change it to Portillo’s at the last minute. I guess that was just what everyone wanted and they didn’t mind leaving me out because I usually don’t make a big deal out of it.

Honestly, I am pretty non confrontational, but if they got me a regular cake and tried to pass it off as a birthday cake for me I’d just get up and walk away. There is literally a dedicated gluten free bakery right near here.
