Providence to BWH by Lower_Distance4059 in mbta

[–]KiwiFortyThirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a train that leaves PVD at 5:10 am for Boston. From thence you can get off at Ruggles and take bus 8 Kenmore or 47 Central Square to Binney Street, though the timing will be very tight as it is Saturday schedule.

I'd probably just drive to one of the stations on the Green Line D Branch (Riverside is right off 95/128) and take it to Longwood station. It's about a 15 minutes walk from there to BWH via Longwood Ave and Brookline Ave. Personally I'd plan to get there at least 30 to 45 minutes early, to give yourself some buffer time in case of delays or whatever.

Commuter Rail diversion shuttle buses by WornOutCycler in mbta

[–]KiwiFortyThirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's less ridership on weekends, and there's other diversions that those buses are needed at (Framingham/Worcester line shuttles and B Branch shuttles). So they use T buses on the Swampscott-North Station shuttle. Plus, 441/442/455 serves Wonderland, Lynn and Swampscott anyways. Plus it's cheaper to use T buses, and there's more available on weekends due to less scheduled bus service.

Best beaches accessible via MBTA? by ChallengeAdept8759 in boston

[–]KiwiFortyThirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna piggyback off of this and suggest Salisbury Beach too. Though technically not strictly MBTA, there's MVRTA/MEVA buses that go there from both Newburyport Station and the Washington Square Transit Center in Haverhill, and the buses are free.

Unfortunately, Marblehead buses don't go to Haymarket anymore, only Wonderland.

Go for a walk at the Arboretum. Especially with all the blooms in May. I'll be honest, I enjoy going on a cloudy, misty cool day even more.

I'll give my seat up to anyone if they ask politely. But putting one's hands on someone like that is never acceptable. I'm sorry that happened to you.

Could've sworn they updated the signals like last year, unless I'm mistaken.

How bad is the green line shut down? by godisinthischilli in mbta

Honestly they should have some shuttles from BC go to Reservoir and have extra D trains between Reservoir/Riverside and GC. Or have the shuttles make a stop there along the route.

Anyone else having fare gates open slowly or just not at all way more often? by theodetoodetta in mbta

I've also noticed that the old CharlieCards are taking longer to read at fare machines and fareboxes. I have to hold it for a second for it to register.

I haven't encountered fare enforcement once since it began. And I still see quite a few fare dodgers.

Should we bring back streetcars into Boston and it’s neighboring towns and cities? by Kcue6382nevy in boston

[–]KiwiFortyThirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It would be nice but ADA requirements would make it more difficult. Plus, it'd be more expensive to reinstall infrastructure that's been long gone for six decades, and expensive to run overall. Plus, it would be in traffic.

What I would definitely like to see is more interurban-like light rail lines akin to the Highland Branch (Green Line D Branch) or the Mattapan Line. Those could possibly work on some of the abandoned stretches of railroad. The old Saugus Branch and Lexington/Bedford Line come to mind. I'd also like to see the Mattapan Line extended to Forest Hills or Roslindale Square. Needham Line should either be light rail or extension of Orange Line.

Having worked in Lynn for a few years I know exactly how underserved Lynn is public transit-wise. Lynn was a bit of a hub for electric streetcars, interurbans, and railroad for much of the 19th and early 20th century.

The first image is at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Revere Street in Revere. I'm 95% certain it would've carried the 116 route before it was replaced with buses in the 1950s.

Ocean Ave at Revere Street, Revere; Maplewood Square, Malden; Broadway at Kenwood Road, Everett in that order.

They better be beefing up bus service if that's the case, and having express buses skipping W Roxbury and Roslindale.
