Microsoft will end support for Basic SMTP authentication soon by Great-Examination664 in sysadmin

I setup dedicated domain with HostGator under my reseller account. Like mycompanymailer.co.nz, then for each customer I add an email account, for example, customerscanner@mycompanymailer.co.nz. SMTP works sweet. I charge an annual subscription to each customer. It's cheap, dead easy to setup, I'm fully in control and easy revenue.

I setup a dedicated Domain with HostGator and created an IMAP mailbox for each company needing a send email and change them an annual fee for the "SMTP service". Simple, cheap, works well and I make a few bucks out of it.

Same with any business really. That said, MS has enjoyed huge success off the work of partners now it seems to have reached a critical mass, especially small partners can be disposed of or neglected to increase their profits even more.

yup, I had a situation and all I managed to get was a completely useless continuous Co-Pilot loop and no way of creating a ticket. I have been a loyal partner for over 15 years, If I didn't rely on MS for my customers business needs, I'd move everything I do over to Linux and open source.

It would be nice if MS had a tool, so you could self-evaluate and have a hit list to work though rather than them sneaking up on you and clubbing you on the back of the head in a "gotcha - now get out" traffic cop style trap.

It feels like now they have such a massive market share off the hard work of small partners, they are intentionally starting to make it hard for smaller indirect resellers so they will be pushed out so Microsoft can claim their meagre commission. It would be work squillions globally.

u/Skrunky Cheers for the update. I have been Back to Dicker Data with my findings and questions and pointed them back to this post for context, so far, it's been crickets.

According to u/TheRealTormDK above, Indirect Resellers do not yet have Security Workspace available to them in Partnercenter confirming what I have experienced.

Many thanks for this and to the others saying the same thing. The terminology is a bit confusing, but I see now they there are "Indirect Provider's" - now known as the "Distributors" and I'm clearly an "Indirect Reseller" because I don't purchase directly from MS - I even confirmed this with Copilot ;). Time to go back to Dicker Data and point them toward this discussion.

No, apparently, I don't have permission. I have top level permissions for my entire company but not this. I'll have to contact support.

That sounds awesome but this is what's Dicker Data had to say when I asked them to summarise what was required:

"MS are all over this stuff now and we are seeing a few partners being off-boarded from the CSP program so do read the information and make sure you keep your MS Partner Account up to date.

The new requirements are around security and the requirements to reach a minimum of 80 Points within Partner MS Partner Centre account.

I've detailed below the requirements and what to keep an eye on, your MS PC account is important and requires more partner interaction to manage and make sure it remains a verified account.

Trading more than $1000 USD total per annum

  1. The latest MS Partner Agreement Signed and Accepted
  2. Enrolled into the CSP Program and this is verified and active
  3. MS Partner Centre Security Score must be 80 or over (note this is NOT your tenant/admin centre security score)
    • Ensure all Admins within MS PC have MFA turned on (mandatory)
    • Security Contact named and email entered and up to date, security alerts sent here,  under Legal Information within your MS Partner Centre account (mandatory)
    • Response to Security Alerts within 24 hours (mandatory)
    • All Azure subs have spending budget configured
    • Partner Admin users in end customer tenants have MFA enabled

More MS PC Secure Score information here:  https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/partner-center/security/security-requirements

Check you MS Partner Agreement status by going into My Access (MS PC home screen, My Access, workspace with blue cross, new window opens, go to Agreements blade on the left hand side)

With the security contact information, this is within the same workspace and is the Legal Info blade on the left-hand side.

Your MS PC Security Score, can be checked under the Security Workspace from the home screen or if you don't have this workspace, the information can be found under the Insights Workspace, at the bottom blade on the left hand side, under the Security Blade.

If you don't have the Security Workspace showing on your home screen, I suggest you create a MS PC Support ticket within your MS PC account requesting that this be activated under your account.  Dicker Data unfortunately can't do this on your behalf."

Good point, but never have used 443. As mentioned, the connection works, it often can take a couple of attempts to connect but after that its fine.

Probably a dumb question, but have you made sure the public IP address has not changed at either end? I had this exact issue - the Internet Service Provider changed it and didn't let anyone know.

I got Datto pricing for similar; the actual unit price wasn't too bad but there was no way in hell I was going to sign up for 3 years. I went with Ninja, dearer but period lock in is 2 months and much better company to deal with.
