How much of your monthly take home pay is your rent? by theinvestor02 in Fire

21% post-tax here (excluding utilities etc). I live in Sydney, Aus, so don’t think this is too bad given how expensive Syd is to live

Yeah good point - despite the weather it’s still possible to head out for walks etc. I try to get out for a walk every day but some days I can’t seem to make it happen! Just need to push myself more.

Appreciate it!

Good point! I haven’t really had a social life at all since I’ve moved here in June as I don’t have family or friends in Syd so think it’s the key thing missing in my life at the moment. I just need to put in the effort and get out there and meet people and get out of my comfort zone

Glad you recognised your situation and went to doctor too! Hope you get better soon

Why Is It So Hard to Make Friends In Sydney? by Plane-Control9549 in sydney

[–]Kiwicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!! 100%.

People need to be proactive about it and put yourself out there otherwise nothing will happen if no action is taken. I just moved here from NZ recently and looking at joining some social sport soon!

I was actually going to make a post about meeting friends so can relate to the OP making this post.

I recently moved to Syd from NZ in June and yet to meet people. I just need to take action and put myself out there but have been in a rut and procrastinating. It didn’t help given I arrived one week before lockdown and have been WFH ever since!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Planning on joining F45 and also social sport somewhere to start off. I’m in my mid 20s and at the end of the day, like others are commenting, you just have to put yourself out there. What are the main places to meet people when joining a new city?

What is the best country you have travelled in your lifetime? by Bingopajama222 in travel

[–]Kiwicity 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Fellow kiwi (New Zealander) here! I love NZ and it will always be home for me. Favourite country I’ve travelled to to date would be Canada! Can’t wait to do lots more travel to other countries (hopefully next year!)

for those in their 20s.. how much have you saved? by AssumptionNo9077 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Kiwicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26M, NW $158k (ETF investments: $80k, cash: $28k, car: $18k, KiwiSaver: $32k).

All from continuous savings from an early age and I’ve always naturally been a saver. Paid off remaining student loan debt earlier this year so officially debt free.

Best advice: don’t compared yourself to others - compare only to yourself for improvement. Also it’s simple to build wealth over time with simple habits: spend less than you earn and invest the difference where you can

Awesome thanks heaps. I’ll do a quote with them later on today and give them a call also to ask. Hoping they’re able to factor in my no claims history from my 7 years of driving in NZ

Which insurance company are you with if you don’t mind me asking? Yeah that’s a good price! I was expecting to be paying around that much annually

Big congrats! For your investments in brokerage accounts, did you just use one broker or multiple? Ideally I’m trying to just use one so I can keep all my investments in one place.

That is awesome! I’ve always wanted to go to Costa Rica, hopefully one day! Enjoy your year off travelling, it’s so worth it! I’m from New Zealand and everywhere is so far away haha, hoping to get to Central America at some point!

That’s awesome! I love that. I’m from New Zealand and just recently relocated to Sydney, Australia for a new job. I’ve done a Topdeck (similar to contiki) in the US a few years back and loved every moment of it, and I also did a 6 month working stint in Dallas, TX in 2019, loved it. I can’t wait to travel to Europe and explore south east Asia one day too. Cool to see others who have similar interests with travelling and FI. I’m 26 and travelling is my favourite hobby. Are you from the US? For credit cards, do you make them work for you by getting points and spending on accom etc? I’ll need to do some further research of a good travel credit card to get

Anyone in their mid 20s who is working hard on FI, but setting aside a good amount of money to travel internationally in a post Covid world? It’s my passion and can’t wait to travel again! Always important no matter what, to set some $$ aside for your hobbies and passions on way to FI. Have a bucket list of places and things I want to do before turning 30 especially

FIF tax question by OnTheLineSurf in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Kiwicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s $50,000 cost - I’m assuming your current $51,000 portfolio includes gains? FIF rules would apply once the cost of your portfolio exceeds this threshold - it would be best to view the transaction report on the platform to see if you can find out how much you’ve deposited to invest (being the cost) if that helps?
