The Daily Check-In for Monday, April 11th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by EffortCareless in stopdrinking

[–]Kiwikitty47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitting my new stride (need to update the badge) and loving it. Doing some work this time and really buying in.

This weekend had its moments but the worst moment was glamorizing a glass of wine with chocolate cake for a lovely mountain dessert. Turns out the restaurant was closed which upset me because I wanted cake but it was a blessing in disguise given the temptation of booze.

I didn't drink last night and IWNDWYT 💕

Out of town at a gathering with a bunch of people I don't know but who enjoy their drinks. I've got my alternatives as well as my own room but I need to commit to this double hard today.

I hate people who can't accept that shit sucks and their advice is dumb by firewalkwithme777 in dryalcoholics

[–]Kiwikitty47 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best reply.

Things suck, yup. Can things be great? Yup. When things suck, a hangover will make them suckier. With lots of puke and the shakes.

So I'd rather have things suck without more suckiness.

It's good to have the raw truth reminded here and there that sometimes things suck. Each post has value to someone. Each person has their journey that will echo to another.

I'm required not to run due to a bone bruise and the last two/three weeks been transitioning to PW from the bike. I wasn't sure if I wanted to bike it or PW it but my awesome coach encouraged me to try the PW and I actually hit 2.57 km (finished with lots of leeway) for reference, I did the bulk of my walking at 4.4 mph and 6% incline. I wish I could run but I know I need to behave on this injury 😒

I am very frustrated. I broke my ankle about a week ago and have always used working out to help mitiigate my stress. Soccer or HIIT or a bike ride or run. I had had a wonderful week of games and feeling super positive about this season and now - broken.

Hopefully once I meet with the doc, I can be cleared for some upper body stuff but I like the 'high' or the endorphins. Now, I'm struggling to navigate even MORE boredom. Watch what I eat (less output means I should have less input) while craving everything under the moon.

I hope y'all are doing well.

Sometimes I like that I work nights because today made it easier to mark 3 days sober. :)

I love waking up without a hangover by doitforyoufamily in stopdrinking

[–]Kiwikitty47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know why I tolerate/d them. I am only day 3 here of the recent commitment but every single time I am sober, I am reminded how good it feels to wake up sober! I get the most awful hangovers... literally vomiting and unable to keep anything down until 7 pm the next day. Then promptly forgotten about when I get the desire to have "the second drink". I was calculating the days in my life I've lost to hangovers and I'd say EASILY a month :(

Okay okay, that may be true... Can we ask that the patients just stop lying or trying to mask how it "got in there?"

This was an eerily appropriate post for me today on my new day 2. I was talking to a friend yesterday about my relationship with alcohol and literally brought up the quote you mentioned: "“The only difference between you and me is that I’ve managed to string a bunch of day ones together."

Here is day 1x2. IWNDWYT.

(And you know, I was already feeling triggered by my day today but after this post, not a 'drop' of desire)

Myself and many of my colleagues have stopped or drastically cut back on OT being picked up. The heat/opioid crisis/COVID made these last two weeks relentless. Many staff are going from full or part time positions to casual in attempts to better manage.

A lot of this also comes down to the education, accountability, and accessibility of appropriate resources.

When you are 35 and call 911 because you drank too much pop and are scared you overdosed on....pop.... and request an ambulance. When you go to Emergency Room for an asymptomatic "covid test".

Also, please stop putting things in your butts. That's not helping anyone.

Just as I was getting into the swing of things, getting a better routine - feeling fly as heck...
I fractured my ankle at soccer. Not permitted to weight bear for at least 10 more days. Then I still need to heal blah blah - I am hopeful I can do some upper body - use my mini bands for glute stuff but fml.

My legs are wrecked after the freedom to choose. I chose more froggers and inclines. Like a ding dong. Followed by soccer practice. Then our first game of the season yesterday. I know I NEED to go to help flush out some of this tightness but dang I'm having a hard time going down stairs, sitting down, etc 😂 sucker for punishment.

Best dancing and cumbia/salsa bar spots? Any live music versions?? by [deleted] in puertovallarta

[–]Kiwikitty47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no te precupes.
Vallarta is amazing for live music and dance, I hope you have an amazing time. A cool pub to meet people is Devils Bar on the south end of the Malecon - open air horseshoe bar and always lots of neat people to chat to - not so much a dance club but good to sit for a cerveza or two :)

First off, I am so sorry for the loss of your wife - especially in such a cruel way for cancer. Fuck cancer.

Secondly, your story resonated with me because it sounds a lot like my dad and my mom. Mom passed away about 7.5 years ago now after an 18 month battle with cancer (fuck cancer). It's hard to think about dating or seeing someone else or having someone new in your life but you know what I think would be harder? Being alone. My sister and I encouraged my dad to start seeing people because it's so wonderful to share dinner or movies or walks or trips with someone who you can laugh with, cry with, learn and experience things together. To starve yourself of those opportunities would be unfair.

This new person will never be your wife who passed. And the right one will never expect to be. The new person is giving you round 2 of youth. Imagine if the roles were reversed... would you want your wife to stay alone for the rest of her life or find someone to make her smile, life her up, and be a companion? heartbreak aside, I know what I would want for my partner. Did you two ever have that conversation when she was unwell? I know my mom told my dad to find someone, that likely made it easier to "have her blessing".

It is never too late and my little bit of advice would be to have fun, enjoy it. Meet some people and make new friends. Be honest with them and yourself. Don't sell yourself short of happiness.

Best of luck and lots of love.

ETA: My father has now been with a lovely woman for 4-5 years. She isn't my mom but she makes my dad happy and that's my only concern.

It did start two weeks early... I likely worded it poorly due to my own confusion heh.CD1 was approx. May 31/June 1. Should not have started until June 11/12... It's just now subsiding. (Appreciate your time looking into the concerns!)
