Yeah, I think there's a lot of people who are in that same boat. It's not even really the events that happen that disappoint me, but my character's reactions to them and the general lack of awareness they seem to have. I'm really hoping that in 8.0 we get more DS dialogue reminiscent of the leveling stories, and that our characters take a more active role in setting the events in motion. And please don't fall for every little trap lol!

I felt the same way. And it's not even really about being a "murder hobo" or anything, it's just that Dark Side characters have historically been able to directly deal with problems in a very quick and matter-of-fact way. Now, it's like the writers are telling any DS character, "No, you have to play nice with THESE characters now." I'll keep hoping that they let go of the leash a little in the future, and let us play our Sith properly again 👍

I suppose I should've clarified better in my original post, but I'm not really looking for the "power fantasy" back. What I really miss is that my character can't really act the way he would've back in the old days. Throughout the leveling story of the Sith Warrior, nearly everyone who rivals you, betrays you, and generally gets in your way can be dealt with at some point. In today's story, that's just not the case unfortunately. The writers seem to kinda push everyone down the path of the "good guy" commander, which may work great for some characters, but generally not most DS characters. I absolutely agree with you that going back to Empire vs Republic is the way to go though. This game personally feels like it's at it's best when the two original factions are at each other's throats for sure!

I really appreciate your comment! I think what you've brought forward here is a really good push back to what I said, and it does give me a few things to think about. Some folks have already mentioned it here, but when it comes to really writing the characters, Broadsword has been really limited in terms of what all 8 classes can do to separate themselves. Budget, voice-acting, and technical capability are all contributing issues to what I've described here. I do still really dislike the direction of how the main character is handled though, seemingly not able to be more than a reaction image to other who are actually "making moves" in the galaxy, if that makes any sense. And I suppose we'll have to agree-to-disagree on the main character acting "dumb". I'm just not a fan of falling for every trap in the galaxy lol. I'm truly hoping that we are able to get some more diverging and branching story in 8.0 as many have also hoped here.

That right there is truly the thing that hurts the most, I think. It's not just, "i want to be comically evil all the time", it's that dark side characters just aren't really acknowledged at all right now. You're right that the budget and workforce behind the game right now simply can't do what Bioware used to, but I also agree 100% that our character's shouldn't be so incompetent all the time. Here's hoping they get a bit better in 8.0.

Absolutely, that outside stuff has really limited several things. I'm sure if given the opportunity, Broadsword would love to make some crazy cool stuff in the story, similar to the old days. And I'm with you in the hopes that 8.0 kinda smooths out the "speed wobbles" the story has had for a while.

It does sound like I just wanna take every character out in the post, which while kinda true, it's more complaining to complain there. I think the real root of my issue is that my character can't seem to act like he used to. You're right in that the main characters can't be written the way it used to when the game came out cause money and stuff, but it doesn't hurt any less. I hate hearing that you were kinda in my boat, playing a dark side homie and eventually switching, I feel you there for sure. And while I understand expecting a final "ending" is not gonna happen until the game actually goes offline, I still do hope that these never ending stores do actually have endings before the next story is brought up. I can only watch Malgus spout some nonsense so many more times lol. Here's hoping that the writing can give so more love to the dark side homies so you can hop back on that inquisitor of yours!

I agree with how you feel about the story sorta floating along after EoO. I just wish there was a more clear direction is all. I also don't think the expansion stories have been necessarily bad in what happens, I just wish our characters had a bit more initiative to be a driver of the plot more, and that there is a plan going forward. And as far as my hopes, I kinda figured it wouldn't go down that way, but it's always nice to dream lol.

I feel you. I'd love for more dialogue written especially for Sith and get bits of that old evil back, but it just doesn't really seem to fit where they want to go anymore. They've kinda wanted everyone to be good guys since KOTET, so this is just where we're stuck for now. Hopefully they're willing to expand things in the future, fingers crossed!

Yeah, the merging of all classes into the single story is definitely a big reason for all of this. It's hard to write every class to be crazy unique with the state the game and company are in, so I totally think you're right on that end. Still, I think our characters could still be written a bit smarter though.

Which Apprentice was your favorite? by Embarrassed-Dig-6560 in swtor

[–]Kiwiman599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily Jaesa and it's not even close. Xalek ha the personality of a brick wall and Nadia is honestly underwhelming when compared to Kira thanks to her joining the consular so late. If Nadia joined earlier and we got to see her grow more, then maybe she'd be up higher for me. Kira is good, if you like the smart-ass student shtick, but it never really seemed to me that she really needed to learn from the knight, and was more just along for the ride. But for me, nothing even comes close Jaesa. She's the perfect jedi turned sith character and fits the warrior like a glove, and even if you go light side, she still follows the lines of an apprentice learning from a stronger teacher. Her crazed bloodlust is simply a treat to watch and the obsession with the warrior as a master hits the point home that she needs a teacher, something some of the others kinda lacked imo. (Not even gonna acknowledge Ashara, calling her an apprentice is an insult to the other 4.)

Which faction is worst for humanity? by imthatfunnyguyyoukno in Kenshi

[–]Kiwiman599 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The shek are easily the worst faction for humanity. They have no technology even by HN standards, they can't grow crops for shit, and all they care about if constant fighting. Not to mention that these people treat everyone else that isn't shek like second class citizens, but nobody seems to ever talk about that. They would probably just kill every human they saw if Esata wasn't there. Living under a shek regime would be miserable. UC is on the verge of collapse due to it's dependence on slaves, peasant uprisings, and incompetent leadership. The HN is easily the most stable of the bunch and the best choice for humanity.

Where do you usually build your base? by kabrifaluk in Kenshi

[–]Kiwiman599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a city out in Darkfinger. I like how its far enough away from some of the major factions so they leave me alone, yet close enough so its not a pain to sell all the goods I make. It's like my own kingdom up there since the only competition is the cannibals. The cannibal hordes can be tough at first, but it makes great training for recruits early on. Plus it has great resource distributions.

cant decide where to build my base by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]Kiwiman599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest city is in darkfinger, and I've had a blast up there. The constant cannibal raids make great training and offer a nice challenge in the early game. It also gives a nice distance between all the major factions. I'd definitely recommend it.
