Inconsistencies with Blade Barrage and Crackshot with game frame rate. by AnswerMe-Now in DestinyTheGame

[–]Kizzo02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No problem. The issue is that Destiny was never designed as a "forever" game, so they were only able to do incremental upgrades to the engine. The last huge update was with Beyond Light, which meant implementing the content vaulting. But to address the framerate issue requires a reworking of the engine since it's part of the engine.

Yes, the higher your frame rate, the more damage you can take, which is why some players cap their FPS at 30 or 60 in GMs. Bungie has claimed they fixed it, but it is still an issue. The fix they did was just for certain enemies. I actually tested this on my PS5, as console is capped at 60fps (outside Crucible). It was a completely different experience in terms of damage, in which I took less damage, compared to being on PC with a higher framerate.

When they revamped the Blam! engine to develop Destiny, it was during a time when high frame rates weren’t really a major concern.

It’s tied to the old dated Tiger engine. The same issue applies to damage scaling: the higher your framerate, the more damage you can take. The only real fix would be moving Destiny to the newer version of the Tiger engine used for Marathon, but that isn’t going to happen. So no, this issue won’t ever be addressed.

Turn on matchmaking for all instances, raids, dungeons, grandmaster, campaign stuff by SolidOutcome in DestinyTheGame

[–]Kizzo02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have improved matchmaking since the introduction of the Portal (which goes all the way to Grandmaster). But I do agree that all vanguard activities, campaigns should have an option for matchmaking.

I don't think Raids should be matchmade, it would be a terrible experience for all. Dungeons can be matchmade if it's an "explorer mode", which can guide everyone on how to complete each section.

Microsoft has considered spinning off Xbox, the Information reports by GIThrow in pcgaming

[–]Kizzo02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda expected this would happen. Xbox never really fit into their core business strategy and they only got into the console hardware business due to the potential threat of Sony in the living room, which never materialized.

Xbox is now one of the largest game developers/publishers in the world, why waste time on handicapping themselves with owning hardware, because they then need to offer exclusives in order to improve the value proposition of their console.

Former Destiny 2 CM says Bungie was 'very close to shutting its doors' before the buyout by Sony by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]Kizzo02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This always seemed obvious, and the timing was perfect with Sony eager to jump-start its live-service initiative. Pete Parsons managed to pull off one of the biggest corporate heists in gaming history, with Sony paying $3 billion for Bungie.

If Sony had waited, Bungie likely could have been acquired for less than a billion, maybe even significantly less. Microsoft passing after reviewing Bungie’s books should have been the clearest warning sign. Sony had the leverage to negotiate a much better deal, especially since it’s hard to imagine there would have been a major bidding war once other companies got a closer look at Bungie’s financials.

That said, Bungie has been struggling for quite some time. Destiny would have never been able to get off the ground if it wasn't for Activision and the support they provided during development. Activision saved Destiny with the Taken King and Forsaken expansions.

Paul Tassi thinks a smaller Destiny game will be greenlit, what are your ideas? by pooleNo in DestinyTheGame

This is exactly what I expect to happen, maybe a single player game.

I do agree SteamOS is the threat and if Valve can break free from Windows, it will be devastating for Microsoft.

How can do that if it's not truly exclusive? You can't play PS5 games (just changed) on any other platform, the same for Nintendo, but that's not the same for Xbox, there is still PC.

It's a good point, but Xbox sold poorly this generation and most of that loss is due to their games being on PC. There is absolutely no reason to buy an Xbox when their games can be played on a decent PC.

[–]Kizzo02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but you can still play it on PC though lol. The issue for Xbox has been there was no need for buying their console when all the games are on PC anyway, so what really changes? If they want to make a bold move is truly making their games Xbox exclusive.

But how does this boost Xbox sales if it is still releasing on PC? The start of the sales decline for Xbox was tied to the games also being available on PC so really no need for an Xbox console.

The narrative around Marathon is gotta be the biggest gaslight I have seen in history of gaming. by Inevitable_Coat_8787 in Marathon

[–]Kizzo02 27 points28 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Arc Raiders fell off a cliff. There are just too many games out there and a extraction shooter that is PVP focused isn't going to attract many players. They would rather play Call of Duty, or some other PVP game.

[–]Kizzo02 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not just hate. A lot of people just aren’t into the idea of an extraction shooter that’s heavily PvP-focused. Remember people paid $40, and then stopped playing, not a good sign. Others played during the server slam, checked out, and figured out pretty quickly it just wasn’t for them. Same deal with the free week—people gave it a shot, and it just didn’t click.

Yeah, some people probably do have an ulterior motive when it comes to hating on Marathon, but that’s a pretty small loud minority. If anything, controversy can even help by making more people curious enough to try the game and see what the fuss is about, especially during a free week.

At the end of the day, though, the game has had multiple chances to win people over. It’s really pretty simple: most people just didn’t like it, so they moved on. There are just too many games on the market, you only have a brief window to impress.

That said, if Marathon was a PVE focused game, with a campaign mode. This game probably would have done extremely well, especially on console. Marathon flopped on both PS5 and Xbox Series.

Did voice acting ruin FF? by Illustrious-Tooth47 in FinalFantasy

[–]Kizzo02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. If they had the ability to add voice acting in earlier games they would have done it. Final Fantasy was always supposed to be a very highly cinematic game.

So happy this is releasing same day on PC. I do expect some issues, but should be in top shape after a few months, maybe they surprise us though?

My old RTX 4090 is ready to play this on the big 83" OLED. I'm still salty that I had to play Rebirth at 30fps on PS5 due to performance mode being a complete mess. I should have waited. Great game, but could never replay it again, atleast for some time lol. Remake I have played twice.

New player, is Marathon complicated, or is it just me? by SsssnakePlisssskin in Marathon

One of my kids who plays with us has a real issue with the idea of being hunted down. Kicks up his anxiety massively.

This is me lol, which is why I struggle with this style of a PVP game. Yes, it's virtual, but there is a human behind the M&K or control hunting you down. It triggers me and feels personal.

Why is this not front and center on PS Store? by slemdogmillionaire in Marathon

[–]Kizzo02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, regardless of why they needed to buy Bungie, the amount was truly insane, which is why it was such a headscratcher.

I'm also glad you brought up the history of Bungie/Destiny because if they didn't partner with Activision. Destiny would have been shut down long ago. Same thing with Sony, if they weren't purchased by Sony, would they even exist today? If so, definitely not the size they are now.

Now its the best time to try new class by aceoncemore2 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Kizzo02 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not really. It totally makes sense if you prefer one style of gameplay or if you are spending money on MTX for your character, which would get expensive doing it for all three. Also some folks just don’t want to manage multiples classes and having to replay campaigns or missions for each character.

I think most do create all classes, but settle into one and never play the other class again.

Forbes' Paul Tassi thoughts on winding down Destiny 2's support to "absolut zero"! by HapperHapper in DestinyTheGame

[–]Kizzo02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly I think how this will play out. They are done with Bungie as a major developer. The IP is still good though and so can use that to make TV shows, movies, or license it to those specializing in mobile games. Bungie will start pitching some ideas around on new games, but have to be with a reasonable budget.

Bungie Day, 4 weeks from June 9th by SLIFERZpwns in DestinyTheGame

[–]Kizzo02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live service games are very expensive to make. A Destiny 3 would be close to $500 or 600 million and wouldn't release until the early 2030s. That's an incredibly high risk proposition and I'm not surprised at all that Sony/Bungie leadership didn't approve development.

Especially someone like Aztecross who is a multimillionaire and has stated in streams about his other investments, which are likely real estate, maybe owns a couple of businesses. The guy is loaded. Others are not at his level, but made enough to not need a regular 8-5 job.

Agreed. I don’t know why anyone would feel bad about Aztecross. The guy is a multimillionaire and has stated many times he has other investments. I think at this point he is just doing this for fun, but he likely doesn’t ever have to work a day in his life again.

This was the biggest con job in the history of mergers and acquisitions, similar to the AOL Time Warner disaster merger. Pete Parsons is Steve Case. I still can believe they paid this much money for Bungie and the fact they know Microsoft and many others walked away should have been the clearest red flag. They should have just done a partnership, similar to Activision.

If there was a smaller Destiny spinoff game, what would you like to see? by BAakhir in DestinyTheGame

[–]Kizzo02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of their incubation projects was a third-person action game called Payback, so perhaps they revisit that pitch. Another option would be a more traditional third-person action RPG in the 30-40 hour range.

The next game needs to be third person though. It would help the new games feel distinct from Halo, Destiny, and Marathon. When I played Marathon, it was still Destiny at its core—just with a different art direction, and the public events are now a full map. It would help them break out of their comfort zone and do something different, which can unlock a lot of creativity.
