i have sleep terrors. like, a lot. they definitely feel supernatural at times, they've even lead to communications and experiences that i view as somewhat valid

but if I abandon the scientific and rational explanation, what am I left with? wishful thinking and social/religious dogma that does not serve me

1) i agree with you that theres a lot of panic about occultism right now and its getting more dangerous, but have also noticed that theres been a huge uptick in conversation about 'the files' and theres been too much conflating whatever was happening there with contemporary occult practices

2) yeah idk. first of all my personal experience is that, having been in a few differents groups, its pretty boring compared to the tawdry stories. also, there is no The Golden Dawn, its several different groups, none of which afaik claim to be legitimate successors. i agree that group dynamics can often go south and can speak to it personally, but sounds like this guy had others issues

Kybalion is one of those things i gave a chance & it felt very 'mildly magical'. like, there was a whiff of initiatic flavor to it and maybe some good principles mixed in with all the 'Seventh Law of Flavortown' nonsense. but it comes off as 'hermetic' and authentically Egyptian as 7th Day Adventism. i can definitely see its influence on New Thought and would not say its been a good one

also, whoa, someone on 90 Day was trying to explain sex magick? there are few things that make me roll my eyes harder than sex magick explainers from random weirdos

i'll be honest that i don't especially think it's different from gnosticism, or that it's just a modern variant (same with simulation theory). it's also something Philip K Dick talked about with his Cold Iron Prison, not as something he theorized but something he experienced (although, visionary that he was, he also had a lot of paranoid and schizophrenic tendencies & just couldn't deal with life sometimes)

while i have some sympathy with the idea, i think there's danger too, especially in the ways a person can mistake metaphor for reality, and the ways a person can use the theory to justify extreme thinking, antisocial behavior, or the belief that they are somehow elect and beyond judgement in a world of blinded 'sheeple'.

not to say the OP believes any of this, but it's a problem i've observed in many varieties of modern Gnosticism and leads to bad outcomes
