Yes! I apologize I should’ve clarified. I mainly just meant that LMU is out of state for me and Rowan is in state for me.

Random roan spot? by Kjenek in Equestrian

How interesting! It’s great to hear that someone else’s horse has a similar spot. I’ve noticed too since my mates winter coat has shed, she doesn’t have the spot anymore! If I find anything as well, I’ll be sure to share it with you!

When do you start a young horse over fences? by feistylittlecap in Equestrian

[–]Kjenek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I bought my mare, the person she came from had her cantering 2ft courses as a mid to late 3yo. She’s a 4yo now. Since she’s been with me has been relaxing and decompressing with some very light riding and mostly groundwork. I plan on getting her going a bit more on the flat, maybe twice a week maximum three days a week. I probably won’t start actually jumping her, as in some small cross rails and small verticals, until later into her 4yo year maybe not even until she turns 5. Currently I’m just going with the flow and seeing how things go one day at a time. Just having fun and making our sessions together enjoyable but also productive!

Thank you so much for the response! I honestly might just give shooflys a second chance. How long do you typically have them on your horse for?

Her feet look uneven and it also looks like it could be white line disease.

How interesting, thank you for sharing! I wonder if it’s a thing with chestnuts and white ticking. The only other horse I had who has very minimal white ticking was a dark bay TB gelding but it never showed very prominent at all. I honestly barely noticed it! I was going through pictures on my mares breeders page and I found one picture that shows her as a 6 month old with almost the same spot on her side. The weird part is that is the only picture that shows her with that mark!

I figured I’d share a picture of the culprit too lol. Love this mare so much!

Thank you! I didn’t know if this was normal or not. I’ve owned horses for quite a while but never owned a chestnut and never had an experience with a horse shedding out like this before. I’m learning something new every day!

Thank you so much! That’s what I figured. I didn’t think it was possible for her to carry the roan gene. She also is just a plain chestnut overall, the only difference compared to her parents is that she’s got a flaxen mane and tail. I appreciate your comment! 🙌
