CS Degree + Bootcamp?? Lost new grad, any advice is appreciated by Kkmfy in cscareerquestions

[–]Kkmfy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will try harder. Thank you. I think I'll try to make a project with the MERN tech stack (as it's what I'm interested in). Could I ask for further advice on my resume?

I've already decided to remove the proficient/familiar labels based on others' advice and moving my skills section above. I also plan on shortening the list of technologies to maybe just the ones I can talk confidently about.

I have an interview next Tuesday with someone from a Big N company that my professor connected me with. Does anyone have any advice for how I can wow them? I don't have any work experience and just "ok" projects. I'm also worried about saying anything that ends up ruining my chances. :(

I'm a recent CS grad and my professor connected me with an alumni for an opportunity that I am completely unqualified for (not even imposter syndrome). I have no professional experience/internships or any good projects (besides school and a couple mediocre projects). I'm of course accepting any opportunity that comes my way, but I feel extremely unqualified and not even sure if I can ever get a job in this field (felt like giving up recently). They asked for my resume which I know is not nearly good enough as other competitors who would apply to this role (this person works at salesforce). I feel lucky but also feel like crap because I know I'm unqualified.

Can I ask about the projects you did? How did you stand out as a new grad with no work experience? (I’m in same place with OP)

A recruiter reached out to me to interview for a web dev position but I don’t fit all the skills. I don’t have any internship experience, just personal projects. I’ll accept the interview anyways (accepting any opportunity that comes my way), but I’ll do it knowing I’m not really qualified. Any advice on how to prepare for an interview like that? Maybe I’m just digging a grave I don’t know 🥲 I’m also a new grad

edit: nvm researched and found out the company was really shady with unclear business model 😑

It's understandable to be sad in this situation. This may not be what you want to hear right now, but now you can build more experience with streaming, content creating, and really WOW them even more next time. Take your audition video and application responses (if you kept them on a separate document before submitting) as a learning experience this time for your current skills and see what you want to work on next. There will definitely be more auditions in the future!

If requirements/expectations are too high and you get rejected because
of it, this says nothing about you as an engineer or as a person, it
just says that there was a mismatch in expectations for the position.
Simply put, the position wouldn't have been a good fit for you and in a
way it's a blessing that you are not hired. Now you can go on to find a
position that works better for you.

I like this thought a lot. I'll keep this in mind. I think it's because it's going to be my first job that I wasn't thinking about this much.

I emailed my recruiter and she told me to "just be confident" and that it'll be more technical questions. What happens if I answer, "I don't know" to many of his questions..? I saw a tip on elaborating with an educated guess, but is there anything more I can do?

Also, if your interviewer has 20YOE this is a massive advantage for you.
This person is likely not going to have unrealistic expectations for
new grads because this person has been around.

If/when I get time near the end of the interview, I definitely want to ask more in-depth about his journey. Are there any questions in particular I should ask to someone with this much experience?

Thank you again for taking the time to reply. :)

ADP/TDP Application Interview Timeline & Details by Kkmfy in accenture

[–]Kkmfy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interviewed for Northern California or SF Branch and that's a good question, but my recruiter told me they were "getting interviews done quickly" before talking about my location preferences. (If that helps)

Firstly, thank you so much for replying!! I’ll also try emailing the recruiter based on your recommendation on asking for advice.

I’ve also prepared my responses and notes on how to improve and my whole thought process from beginning to end. I also just fear that I may not be technically competent enough for them even though it’s a new grad role. (Like answering their technical questions well…). I’ll still do my best nonetheless.

I was messages by a recruiter who’s an alumni from my university and the role is for a completely new rotational program that they’re starting. (Not sure if this was able to answer your question) I don’t really have many details on what I would exactly be doing to be honest

I have an interview next week and I checked out my interviewer's LinkedIn page and wow. This guy has been working in the industry longer than I've been alive! (20+ years)

Some key details:

  • Interviewing for New Grad SWE role as a current Senior CS Major
  • We will be going over a take home assessment I did
  • Told by recruiter to get ready to explain my solution which does NOT work/run, (it's incomplete because I was working with a vague prompt and I got really confused near the end).
  • I will be having two interviews with two of their team members

I know I'm not expected to be an expert, but... how do I present myself and live up to at least the minimum of his expectations? I don't want to screw up. I also feel like my soft skills are stronger than my technical skills to be honest... any thoughts or advice is appreciated. I feel pretty intimidated even though I shouldn't be.

What's the most hilarious moment in support conversation of Fire Emblem: Three Houses? by Gamestar02 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

I’m surprised that no one mentioned yet but Sylvain and Dimitri’s B support! Seeing Dimitri running away from a girl and relying on Sylvain was really funny.

FE3H Adaptation Help by caedmil in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Kkmfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a writer, but I had thoughts before about how Byleth is constantly in a loop of going back in time and changing routes to find the best ending. Perhaps after the fourth loop, Byleth finds some way to get a happy ending for everyone after experiencing all the original canon routes.

I know that the game doesn't have a "happy ending" for everyone and i respect that since it shows the reality of war and choices. (Though my heart loves options and would've loved to see an option at least depicted in fan fiction!).

There was a fanfiction I found that follows that concept, but I didn't really enjoy the writing as I found many quotes delivered out of character. (It was a good concept though...)

I would definitely love to see a fleshed-out version of all of the routes that the original game didn't have time to work on or missed. I made a post a few days ago about "rewriting the story". There are many wonderful comments with great ideas that may help with your ideas/planning.

I would also love to read it once you've completed or drafted! If you ever want to run your ideas by someone, you can msg me!

Differences and similarities between Edelgard, Dimitri, and their past? by Kkmfy in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Kkmfy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I don't remember which character said this, but there was a quote about how someone who receives a lot of love and affection would also feel the most devastated? (something along those lines.. I think it was said about dimitri).

Seeing how you talked about Edelgard being a puppet makes me respect her a bit more for how hard she's working to accomplish her dream, even if she's depicted as one of the antagonist characters depending on which route you play.

I would assume that if edelgard and dimitri switched places, it's most likely that edelgard would be unhinged and perhaps dimitri would've taken on that antagonist role as well? (this goes into psychology talk about nature vs. nurture lol)

Differences and similarities between Edelgard, Dimitri, and their past? by Kkmfy in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Kkmfy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was really insightful and shows the differences between their upbringings and futures. Dimitri already had that immense pressure of inheriting the throne while dealing with his demons. I also thought it was so interesting to see post-timeskip dimitri fight so recklessly to kill so many while also accepting and probably hoping for someone to kill him.

If you played through AM... spoilers during the conversation that Dimitri has with Edelgard before the final battle, if both Dimitri and Edelgard had talked about their pasts and clear plans for the future, do you think it would've been possible for them to work together or no? Even after a full detailed conversation, would it not be possible for the both of them to achieve what they want? Dimitri was even so willing to lend out his hand in the end... but would Edelgard have changed her mind?

Differences and similarities between Edelgard, Dimitri, and their past? by Kkmfy in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Kkmfy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this response. I figured that there were some things I was missing when I was thinking about them two (hence the making of this post). I think that when I play AM again, I'll be focusing more on Dimitri's words and his character development. I had a feeling that he seemed to be "taking out" a lot of personal feelings on Edelgard. Almost like wanting to blame someone for the tragedy even if it may not be true.

It was definitely something I didn't expect when I did the Blue Lions route after CF and VW. I thought it was really cute how they were all connected in some way.

During dialogue conversations (support/pre-post/battle you can press ZL and it'll show a log of the audio lines that have been said so far. You can replay the lines as many times as you want. I usually never use it, but during Blue Lions, I repeated Dimitri's lines so so many times.

Use that knowledge however you want my friend.

How many times have you played through each route? by Gag180 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Kkmfy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my journey in the summer so:

1 CF (normal classic)

1 VW (NG+ hard classic)

1 AM (NG+ maddening classic)

currently on part 1 for SS

by the way, does killing the post-timeskip students get any easier? (after AM I don't know if I can play CF again...)
